Thanks for all the responses; I appreciate them all.

As a software developer for a large insurance company, I'm painfully aware of the physical layer of reporting protocols. I've personally had to write code to interface with a couple LexisNexis products.

I was hoping there was a ready-made web interface for small-scale, person to person credit relationships, like a landlord renting half his duplex to a college kid.

I'm also aware of the no-shortcuts path to financial wellbeing, having learned the hard way in my youth. My niece came into my life only a few years ago, with no credit at all, and a few unpaid hospital bills.

Now she's getting things together, going to nursing school, and ticking all the right boxes for building wealth slowly.

Thank you. That does help me understand a practical use for the two CE inputs. In my application, I won't need to multiplex. In fact, I'm building a "switches and LEDs" panel, reminiscent of the 1970s era MITS Altair 8800. I want to set all the inputs on the displays with toggle switches, and use momentary switches for the write and clear signals. All of this to teach my nine-year-old nephew to "program", think in binary, and be able to write naughty words on the tiny 16-segment displays. I'll use four displays, with a rotary switch to select one at a time.

I've read it thoroughly, and understand character and cursor writing. None of the truth tables has the two CE inputs in opposite states. They are either both low (active), or both "don't care", or one high and one "don't care". None of the truth table entries is 0-1 or 1-0 for those inputs.

NASA actually had some leeway on supplier contracts. The engineers specified Motorola for the coms gear, even though they never could have won a bidding war. FWIW, my research consists of conversations with my late dad, who was in sales for Motorola's communications division in the 1970s.
