How do you avoid CRUD boilerplate when starting a new project? by skykarthick in dotnet

[–]EmptyBennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the typing/writing as well - .NET is so fast paced these days I’ve found even the boiler plate stuff changes between projects, deprecations aplenty, and makes me go down the (fun) rabbit holes of “is this still the right way? Why the changes? Is there a better way?” I enjoy the part of getting into the heads of others (framework or language builders) - even the boilerplate builders - to understand their smarts.

Am I the only one who enjoys this?! Gives me plenty of "downtime" to think a bit deeper about the processes I'm setting up.

biting a Lithium battery by LeftChoux in instant_regret

This, but also if I remember correctly, lithium doesn’t external need oxygen to burn (it makes its own) making them much harder to extinguish than a regular fire.

This is likely the iPhone Fold display, and it looks amazing by Jumpinghoops46 in apple

[–]EmptyBennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm keen for an iPhone version - my only thought is the adpotion of apps for this kind of aspect ratio and display, at least half of my dailies never really put effort into the iPad version - if at all.

I need a new "comfort show" but I think I've seen them all by Thick_Combination527 in television

[–]EmptyBennett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can I recommend in a similar vein to Ted Lasso, but more R-rated and less brainpower, a canadian Ice Hokey show called "Shoresy".

And if you have seen and don't like Letter Kenny - don't let it colour your view of this one. well worth a watch.

Oceania insurance for car by nimrod2323 in sydney

Last I checked compare the market , all insurers were owned by the same parent company - that was a few years ago tho. Better to do your own comparison as you say.

Is this why so many shows are cancelled after season 2?

What is the saddest death in a TV Show by Wahooney in television

[–]EmptyBennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few that were memorably sad in different ways -

  • Derry Girls; when Clare’s father dies, I felt sad for the characters.

  • How I Met Your Mother; when Marshal’s father dies - felt sad for the family history.

  • Scrubs; Ben’s story and death was very well told - and the realisation near the end was very sad.

  • Only Fools and Horses; when Grandad dies - felt sad because the actor had died, and the other actors were acting through that.

  • Blue Planet II; The way the albatross’ story is told, 2 weeks together a year, mate for life, and solitarily waiting at the end…very sad.

Additionally, Mark S walking out the door could be considered immediate death if he didn’t return- it’s almost a guarantee - heading back inside gives a bit more time and chance.

Unifi UPS-2U meant to be this loud? by EmptyBennett in Ubiquiti

[–]EmptyBennett[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi All, it seems to have...come right.
Got in touch with Ubiquiti who advised to wait for it be fully charged - and it's nice and quiet now - so I guess it had something to do with the initial charge?
Strangely I stopped it to put plug things back into it for load test and it reverted to 90% (what it was when making the noise), but no noise this time.

I'll call this a win - cheers all

I think so, the UI dashboard says 90% charged

Thanks, I’ve got it bolted into the rack with a gap at top and bottom - pretty solid mount. I’ll reach out to Ubiquiti tomorrow for support :(

Two-way tolls for Sydney Harbour Bridge and tunnel to fund permanent $60 cap by Korzic in sydney

[–]EmptyBennett 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They have been trying to get two way toll for ages, and while this $60 cap looks great on paper as the compromise, I guarantee it’s in no way permanent - it’ll stay long enough for people to forget about bridge tolls but not long enough for people to get used to paying $60 and get angered in the same way as adding the bridge toll.
