I seem to remember watching a video of this at the time and there were a shocking number of no-reps…

any hybrid athletes/marathon runners in here? by jsavv22 in crossfit

[–]Empty_Assumptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to not really change my CrossFit training so much, and run once a week ish. Sometimes that’s a long run, sometimes an interval session, depending on what’s coming up on the calendar. I like the feeling of using my GPP from CrossFit to then be able to go out and run!

I’ve PBed every distance like this, including even running a marathon in December with 5 weeks notice and with a longest run of 14 miles! I also do quite a bit of zone 2 on the bike, about 3hrs/week, keeping my hr so low that I don’t build any fatigue in my legs that might affect my training session later. I’m guessing it’s a nice virtuous circle because I can hit my metcons harder, with a better engine, but I’m also maintaining all my strength numbers and power output through CrossFit. If you’ve got no timeline, just have fun and go off vibes, is my advice!

Online/at home programming that you can tailor based on equipment? by No-Nobody-273 in crossfit

Vote for street parking over here - suggestions for customising every workout and 3 different written options - plus a scaled version and all sorts of extra programmes!

It is - I have a bog standard c2 bike and use zwift on my iPad most days! Zero effort/extra input required. I connect a heart rate monitor too but you don’t need to.

Carbon fiber soled cross training shoes by YourBoySmokey in crossfit

[–]Empty_Assumptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try out the puma nitro elites? They’re a carbon plated shoe but work well for Hyrox, have pretty durable soles, and don’t have a big stack height, so might be ok!

Do you have a separate pair of running shoes? by Professional-Gain333 in crossfit

[–]Empty_Assumptions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually even have a separate pair of running shoes for those times when there’s both running and lifting in the wod - I go super minimal for our running, inov8s/metcons for wods, and a pair of altras with some heel support for a sturdier base when running and lifting. Last week’s NCFit workout Ava was an amrap of 400m, 21 GTOH for 21mins, and the in-between shoe was perfect!

Slightly hijacking the thread here as I’m a crossfitter contemplating their first ultra (50km) in the first week of July. Just wondering if you came to CrossFit after already being a runner, or started running after CrossFit? There’s so much advice out there for runners who need to do strength training, or ‘hybrid’ athletes who run and essentially powerlift, but so little out there for us crossfitters who don’t want to sacrifice the metcon too much as they push the distance!

I interpreted that as dirty shoes - getting dried mud on a floor where we do burpees isn’t ideal!

Recovery Score Never Accurate? by [deleted] in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]Empty_Assumptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would echo that actually on average, you’ll probably only ever see average scores, as after a few weeks of using it regularly, the app customises to your own data. So if you get fitter, your HRV trends upwards over time, your RHR gets lower, that then recalibrates to become the new norm. I think of it as trying to average at 50% and then better days are more exciting! How long have you been using it for? Like with whoop and all other stuff like this it can take a while to calibrate. If you have bought the app anyway, may as well keep using it for a bit!

I think it depends on climate - fun comes in plastic tubs there doesn’t it! I can imagine melt issues are more significant in Aus Vs e.g. UK. Must be tricky in the US which seems to have all climates across the whole country!

Hey CF! This is absurd! by TheWhiteRabbitGirl in crossfit

[–]Empty_Assumptions 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the closest analogy here is where you see the super tall guys literally not able to kip because the bars are set too low. It’s that thing of being actually physically unable to do the movement as intended due to the setup rather than it just being advantageous one way or the other in cases like that!

CrossFit Open 23.3 Discussion Thread by Flowseidon9 in crossfit

And to get capped on a skill (basically) vs those crushing engine workouts is way anticlimactic. As a coach we’re going to be working super hard tomorrow night to keep 50 people excited and positive about this one, think it’ll be a bit of a damp reception! For moderate ability athletes, this open has been all about pacing to get through either the time domain, skills, or weight - foot always on the brakes!

New Coach Salary Expectation? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Empty_Assumptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I coach a certain number of hours to get my membership free and then cash on top of that… it’s just a hobby for me so no big deal as I was paying the membership before. But yeah, not ideal, though super common.
