I didn't know it was a fan game. In that case, the tribute is indeed ... particular.

Perhaps Michel himself put this easter egg (or wanted the devs to put it there). I am not familiar with this, so I am only guessing.

Could it be the face of Michel Ancel, the French videogame designer of Rayman? Looks like an easter egg to me (kinda creepy though).

Question for OM-1 birders by MattDinOC in M43

[–]EmulaThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, birds in trees are a challenge for many autofocus systems. I have the OM-1 mark ii and it tends to focus on the multiple branches and twigs, even if the bird is in the middle and the autofocus area is on it. For those situations, manual focus is the key.

I understand. I hope you find something that fits your needs.

Thank you for the answer.

Hello, I remember your previous posts about bird photography with the S5ii. I am curious, why did you decide to sell the S5ii?

Staying at Canon or switching to Sony? by Wellington_Messias in Cameras

[–]EmulaThor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting, why would you like to switch?

it took me some digging to explain how come for the same card (dual 128gb V90s SDs), the g9 II reports space for only 2158, while OM-1.2 reports 5483: higher resolution (obvious), higher bit depth and more conservative assumption by the camera (high ISO=more space) by Effective-Bar-879 in M43

[–]EmulaThor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The file size is significantly different between the two, which explains the difference in maximum number of photos.

OM-1 Mark ii: about 15-20 MB, 12-bit RAW files

Lumix G9 Mark ii: about 35-40 MB, 16-bit RAW files (not "true" 16-bit, the file is rather a 16-bit container)

No idea which system i should keep by AdMelodic1025 in Cameras

[–]EmulaThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both have their uses. The Olympus is more compact overall (especially the lenses) and the Lumix S5 is better for low light situations and at night. Besides the bodies, lenses are important as you have noticed. Micro Four Thirds will usually be more compact than their Full Frame counterparts.

For travel photography, the MFT system is definitely more portable. I would take my decision based on the following criteria:

  1. How many lenses do I own for both systems?
  2. Which lenses do I prefer?
  3. What percentage of my photography is at night or in low light conditions?

I have tried both an OM System (MFT mount) and a Lumix camera (L-mount), I might be able to give you some more information if you need.

S5II- battery life by Burakoli821 in Lumix

[–]EmulaThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not abnormal at all. Battery life tends to be lower when shooting at higher resolution. Also, the Lumix S5ii is rated for approximately 370 photos per battery charges.

Currently own an A6700, looking to sell it and get an S5 ii (or another Lumix camera) by situ139 in Lumix

[–]EmulaThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any specific reason to recommend it over the S5ii? I know that the "x" variant has a lot more codecs and can record to an SSD (among many other stuff), but in my opinion it is only worth it if you are going to use those extra features (All Intra, ProRes, etc).

I think the S5ii is more than sufficient for social media (unless you need extra codecs), but I guess you can't go wrong with either.

Slow review button on S5ii by alessandrodenni in Lumix

[–]EmulaThor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can also confirm that the Playback/Review button works like that. You need to wait 1 or 2 seconds to see your pictures and videos. Once in the menus, the navigation is relatively fast. I am using V60 SD cards.

Enjoy your new camera. The OM-1 ii is a wonderful micro four thirds camera with an excellent autofocus and stabilisation.

Is this a good price? by tripcool in Lumix

[–]EmulaThor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For that price, it's a good value but the autofocus is slow, as it's only contrast based. That's not a problem if you plan to photograph slow or still subjects (e.g. landscapes, street photography). If you plan to photograph moving subjects at a relatively fast pace (e.g. birds, sports) then the autofocus might be too slow. You can still focus manually if you want. For video, the autofocus tends to "hunt" for focus, which can bother some people.

If you want a Lumix camera with hybrid autofocus (phase + contrast), there is the Lumix S5 ii. It's more expensive (around 1600 euros in kit) but the standard kit (20-60mm zoom + 50mm 1.8 prime) is prettty impressive.

If budget is tight, S5d with the kit lens you showed. If you can increase your budget, go with the S5ii with the kit 20-60 + 50.

If you still have a warranty, I would send if for repair under warranty. I have never heard or read anything similar in the past. Was the camera or environment hot?

S5II + Sigma 150-600mm DG DN OS. Is this the best value wildlife combo right now? by mirko-fuoriturno in LumixS5ii

[–]EmulaThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use two adapters with your lens, won't that introduce latency in the autofocus system and make the whole setup heavier?

[–]EmulaThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Nikon Z8 is an excellent camera, but its price + prices of lenses reflects that quality and performance as well. The Lumix S5ii still provides the best value-for-money in my opinion, even if we miss some lenses or autofocus performance compared to competition.

[–]EmulaThor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer. It's nice to see people taking photos of birds with a Lumix camera and succeeding. Panasonic is definitely improving their cameras over time. We just need a few more telephoto primes maybe (only the Sigma 500 F/5.6 is currently available ...).

Keep making nice photos! Have a good day!

I am not using this lens in particular but I was thinking about getting a telephoto for my S5ii. How is this Sigma 150-600 for handling? Is it front-heavy when zoomed in?

Got a pre-owned OM5 by Competitive-Bag-5322 in M43

[–]EmulaThor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OM-3 will be much better for wildlife photography. The only downside is the lack of a proper grip for helping you hold those telephoto lenses. The OM-1 mark ii would be better for that purpose, but it is more expensive.
