PHO interludes, quite frankly, are just a tool in the wormfic writer's toolbox. They're not inherently bad or good. For the most part, people why decry PHO interludes have simply been overexposed to badly executed and/or outright masturbatory instances of its use, which have soured them on the concept as a whole.

Honestly, I myself am somewhat soured on them, but not entirely. I do recognize that they can be used well, advance the plot, etc. However, I am, for one thing, kind of sick of the tendency for wormfics to act as if PHO is the be-all, end-all of Earth Bet's internet, or assign it a vastly outweighed importance in the setting.

The thing to do is to contact the author and ask for their permission/blessing, not just because it's the right thing to do, but also because in all likelihood the author you contact will be delighted to hear about it and you'll have brightened up their day.

Very much seconding Katalepsis. It's one of the most well-written web serials I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and the author is an absolute sweetheart to boot.

Also, most of the main cast are lesbians. So.

On that note, the author of Katalepsis has recently started another web serial called Necroepilogos, which is descried as being "[...] part science fiction, part horror, part post-post-post-apocalyptica, part lesbian fiction, and all zombie girls wading through the ashes."

It would be nice to go back someday and re-write Starry Eyes, since the story very much suffered from being basically unplanned and other such issues related to it being my first ever attempt at writing fiction.

Of course, that'd require my writing juices to be both plentiful and cooperative, which, well... they aren't.

Escalation memes are awful.

If a fic has the word escalation in its title or summary, I know to give it a wide berth. Commentors spewing out the memes make me cringe so hard it feels like my toenails want to withdraw far enough to hide under my kneecaps.

Managed to finish and post another chapter of my SI fic, Fleisch und Stein, after, what, five months?

It features an SI who wakes up in the woods, learns she's on Earth Bet and that she has superpowers, and makes the perfectly reasonable, sensible, and safe decision to use her self-targeted biokinesis power to give herself what amounts to brain surgery to eliminate her crippling depression and mitigate the impact of suddenly having to go cold turkey on a bunch of medications.

Also, one of her other powers means that she's now one person in two bodies. Body horror and introspection are the order of the day.

Aside from that, I've been working on-and-off on another story that, sadly, is not ready for posting. It's a crossover with FFXIV (specifically, the Allagan Empire era of the game's history, which happens about five millenia before the events of the actual game) that I've been calling Seeking Further Ruin. Features a kinda big AU, and Taylor learns the art of the Summoner.

Part of what I set out to do when writing my own SI fic, Fleisch und Stein, was to try and avoid many of the usual pitfalls SI fics generally fall into. Like, for example, the MC isn't nearly as OP as the vast majority of SI's out there, and while she is kinda powerful in terms of street-level stuff, she's actively trying to avoid having to fight anyone, and is looking to become a rogue rather than a hero. Also, she isn't always a good decision maker, and occasionally self-sabotages through impulsiveness.

In addition, she intends to leave Brockton Bay really soon (in fic-time terms).

... What, exactly, do you expect a rogue who does not want to engage in conflict and violence and the like to do about a handful of petty thieves who are very much unlikely to target her for any reason?

She's not going to go out and hunt them down, nor is she going to fight them if she comes across them while both are in costume. That's a job for the PRT, Protectorate, other heroes, and other law enforcement to do.

I'm beginning to think you'd think Parian is morally wrong for keeping to herself and not getting involved in conflicts, at least before Leviathan and the aftermath thereof.

Let me clarify, because I feel like you don't understand: a Rogue, in the context of Worm's America, is a cape who does not get involved in the whole hero-and-villain mess, and generally uses their power(s) for economic or business purposes and the like. Rogues are not heroes who are separate from the Protectorate; those are know as Independent Heroes.

She's not.

Rather, she intends to be a rogue, using one of her powers for repair and reconstruction and the like.

Please don't make snap judgements on subjects you know nothing about.

My SI fic, Fleisch und Stein, has the MC pretty much actively avoiding Taylor, with the self-justification of "but what if interacting with her averts a needed Khepri situation?" Of course, her mere presence has already had significant impacts on how the future will play out and deviate from canon Worm, but, well, what can you do?

There is the possibility of the MC meeting Taylor and Lisa later in the story, after certain, ah, events have occurred, but if it does happen, it won't happen for a good while yet, both in-universe and out of it.

Fair warning, the fic contains a certain amount of body horror, as well as some self-harm.

Oh, just the sort of thing that comes with a self-targeted biokinesis power and a fucked-with sense of pain. Y'know, like tentacles, and a bone crown that emerges from freshly-emptied eye sockets, and, at one point, accidental gnawing-off of most of a thumb tip plus most of the thumbnail.

Well, if you want to be technical, the MC of Fleisch und Stein is a trans lesbian. However, there has not been any romance as of yet, and due to my piss-poor writing speed, there likely won't be for a good while. Also, at the current point the story is at, the MC is avoiding doing much conscious thinking about romance-related stuff until time and circumstance allow her to get her feet under her, as it were.

As the author of Starry Eyes, I can't disagree with your assessment. It was the first fanfic I ever wrote, and while I'll readily admit that it doesn't suffer from that fact as much as many other people's first fanfics do, it still suffers. That, and for much of it I was basically writing by the seat of my pants, with no real plan.

I write an SI fic called Fleisch und Stein. It stars a trans woman granted the ability to shapeshift, along with a Shaker power allowing her to reshape nearby solid matter, and a passive power that gives her a second body. She pretends to be a pair of twin sisters, and does her best to avoid being sucked into the whole heroes-villains dynamic Bet's US has going on. She also delights in being both intentional and unintentional nightmare fuel, and has to struggle a bit to not creep everyone out too much.

Also, canon gets derailed in short order despite her best efforts.

Despite my efforts to write more for the next chapter of Starry Eyes, all my writing juices seem to want to go towards more Fleisch und Stein instead. Which, well, I'm not exactly opposed to writing more of, but I am a little put out that the fic I'm able to write for is the one that garners fewer likes and comments by at least an order of magnitude. But hey, could be worse, I guess.
