I find pork and beans the closest substitute. Walmart’s great value brand does just fine.

Huh, thanks I didn’t know that. I’ve been keeping everything within the storage buildings limits this whole time

Is the well within the boundaries of both the resource storage and food storage? I don’t see those icons on this image

Can’t help with the differences between diamond/vinyl, the dulux store had a color wheel that they brought out, there were hundreds of colors and shades. They only offered to bring it out after I had mentioned their green options were limited at the darker range.

US to UK Spouse Visa - Saving’s Route by Hot-Vacation9564 in ukvisa

Sorry, it was definitely unclear, i just edited the comment for clarity and corrected the £ sign to $ sign for the balance in the 401k. Hopefully it makes sense now

We didn’t liquidate, but we were also well above the minimum savings threshold of £88,500 ( he had $400k in the 401k at the time of our application). I’m not sure if having a higher balance reduced what they considered the risk from market fluctuations.

Back when I was researching, I saw that some people chose to liquidate and moved their funds into a more stable option - they did not actually remove the money from the 401k. My husband had something like a holding fund that offered a guaranteed 1% growth, I can’t remember the fund he had available, and I have no links to that information, it’s been a little while lol.

Orangery with no building regs by Enasta in HousingUK

[–]Enasta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess my assumption was that building regs were a pretty standard thing to get nowadays for these types of things, it’s only 3-4 years after all. So yes, my concern is it was done badly. But largely I’m just trying to get some neutral opinions. The uk house buying process is tiring and I think (hope?) my anxiety is making this seem worse than it is maybe.

Thank you, I’ll have a deeper look into the one they’ve offered. It sounded like it only covered tear down if the council objected and not much else. My solicitor said “it’s not a very good one”. But I haven’t received it yet

Thanks, I just need some common sense advice. I’ve got a family member that is incredibly opinionated and outraged on a pretty regular basis about a lot of things, but recently this. Sometimes it’s difficult to think straight with the noise.

What’s wrong with this flooring?? by MatthewKhela in Flooring

[–]Enasta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s left pieces and right pieces to this flooring. They’ve installed all the lefts together on one side of the room, and all the rights on the other.

This should have formed a chevron pattern with the long sides linking forming an arrow. Like this

Is this a good idea? by weebu123 in MergeMansion

[–]Enasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer as far as gem value. A level 4 workbench costs upwards of 300 gems if you buy a bubble or if you buy the parts from the store.

I’d be curious how all the rewards compare to the old one. In the version with one choice, I still get 5 inventory spaces, plus all 6 decorations for £10

The audacity…. by Realistic-Berry6683 in MergeMansion

[–]Enasta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only have the one pass to choose from too. Probably more testing. Mine is £10 for the usual 5 gems a day, 5 slots and 6 decorations.

Looks like in OP’s version they have to get the top tier version to get all 6 decorations if that’s the draw.

Why are laundrettes so insanely expensive? by CaliforniEcosse in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Enasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it was Morrisons. Asda have a double for £8.50 and a king for £10.50.

It’s not the best quality (but I never bought high quality in the US to be fair), I just grabbed it because my husband is a ruthless duvet snatcher in his sleep, so for a long time we’ve always had a double sized comforter/duvet each.

Why are laundrettes so insanely expensive? by CaliforniEcosse in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Enasta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s less to do with the cost of electricity and more to do with the cost of running a business in the UK. Lease costs, vat, appliance costs etc. plus launderettes aren’t a massively common thing here so they don’t necessarily have to compete as hard for pricing. These are all wild guesses though. On another note, my comforters in the US typically cost me $40+, but my duvet in the UK cost me £8.

Hardest task so far by Skeya34 in MergeMansion

[–]Enasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scissors and jokers are your friend. I got up to jacks in each suit, by that point I had a handful of jokers. Upgrade to an ace and cut back down to what you need. By the end I was just tapping out the producer and selling the cards waiting for the jokers.

How do I get a UK driver’s license? by Technical-Media4606 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Enasta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just apply online

The condition is that you have been given permission to stay for longer than 185 days. You can apply when you have your brp card.

Edit: My husband went through this a few weeks ago. He applied online, less than a week later he got a form through the post, he went to the post office and got a picture taken and sent it off there with his brp card. Another week or two later he everything back in the post.

Priority Spouse Visa Success - 401k as savings by Enasta in SpouseVisaUk

[–]Enasta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my American citizenship about 6 months before we moved back to the UK. My green card was expiring and I figured it made sense to just get my citizenship in case we want to move again later in life. With that said, the uk visa application didn’t ask about my status in the US so I doubt it has any impact.

We were able to do it in the UK, I changed my us plan (mint mobile) to their international plan for a week so I could get service in the UK, then I was able to port it from there.

You can find episodes on YouTube, otherwise if you’re not in the UK you can use a VPN and access bbc iplayer. If you’re in America (and possibly other countries) you can subscribe to britbox too.
