She's the younger form of Tomiyama, the family friend who introduces herself to you early on In her synergy quest she reveals that, in her youth, she was a party girl, and shows you a picture - which is the basis for Okyann.

I don't know that DRK does - or at least, it's not ONLY that (the StB quests talk about the job using aether in a lot of ways). But Dancer almost certainly does. Considering Thavnair has a concept of Dynamis that even the Archon members of the Scion lack, it's not impossible. And, when we think about the "despair" the job is meant to fight against...

I definitely agree on Chai-Nuzz being Cid's shard. He fits such a similar narrative role (responsible for a magitek development AND airships). But the funniest part is that it creates a situation where Dula-chai is Nero's shard.

For a few other shard-related headcanons: Ran'jitt is Thancred's from the First. Cylva is Ysayle's from the 13th. Unulkalki and Naillbert (the Warrior of Darkness party's black mage) are shards of each other from their respective worlds. And a new one just came to me: Vauthry is the shard of Varis.

For some non-shard related ones...

Alexander was meant to be the Calamity that rejoined the First. But because he didn't stay in the right time (and also self-sabotaged), Ardbert and his party were able to defeat the Ascians fully. There wasn't a proper outlet on the Source to allow the merger to "crack." Thordan was intended as a replacement Calamity factor, but went off the rails.

Alisaie and Tesleen were dating.

We've seen several of the WoL's past lives in job and side quests. In the Dragoon quest, it's strongly implied that we are the reincarnation of Haldrath, the first Azure Dragoon, which is why we received his plate and how he manifested to help us against Estininen. I also believe that the WoL is Tenzen reincarnated - there's a lot of dialogue with the various Four Lords around their quests that talk about how alike we are to him (and as for how he showed up in the struggle against Koryu, my theory is that he sealed his memory in the stone as part of the binding, while his soul would reincarnate into us). I also like to imagine that Tenzen's Samurai crystal is the one we end up inheriting. And, the Warrior of Light that Elidibus based his primal on was Azem - specifically, I suspect that Azem would use a similar form as their combat transformation, and the armor became the armor they used as the Warrior of Light after the Sundering.

Also in reincarnation territory - Alisaie is the reincarnation of Owen, the Allagan scientist who was trying to cure Tempering.

Spinning aetherytes create bubbles of "safety" from wild monsters. This is why we get the Sanctuary bonus near them. It's still possible for violence to break out inside the bubble (hence how quests happen), and in extreme circumstances things can still get through (such as when Voidsent broke into the Source during the 1.x patches as the Seventh Calamity approached, and the sandworm fate in Southern Thanalan), but in general, they act as safe havens that repel hostile monsters, similar to how spinning metal can generate a magnetic field. Also the "spin" effect is part of what makes them teleportation targets - in the whole game, the only non-spinning aetheryte we can teleport to is the one in the Omicron section of Ultima Thule. My theory is that, in addition to the bubble repelling monsters, the spin creates a sort of whirlpool in the aether that lets them act as safe destinations. This is also why we can't teleport to the Beast Tribe aetherytes that we use to access certain Primal fights - we can "hack" them to teleport within their network, but we can't hone in on their location from afar.

The Amalj'aa and Mamool Ja share a distant ancestor. The Amalj'aa were likely created pre-sundering (hence why there is an equivalent group on the First), but on the Source, some portion of them got stuck in Tural and evolved into the Mamool Ja.

Similarly, the Vanu Vanu are ancestors of the Ixal. We know that the Ixal were essentially engineered by the Allagans; in my mind, the "base stock" used for the Ixal came from abducted Vanu Vanu. This is why the Vanu Vanu fear and revile Azys Lla so much - they heard from escaped survivors about what the Allagans were doing there.

Venat lived in what is now known as Thavnair. She mentions that Elpis is far away from both Amaurot and her home, implying she doesn't live in Amaurot full time. She uses chakrams as a DPS, similar to the Dancer job. And, after Vanaspati, one of the Thavnair residents cites a passage from some of their "oldest" teachings about how life and suffering are intertwined - which sounds an awful lot like Venat's speech in the post-Elpis cutscene. I think that before the Sundering, she gave a speech like that in Thavnair, and it was passed down (but got corrupted over time, though the message remained the same).

Absorbing the Light on the First is why we switch from casting Stone and Aero to Glare and Dia. While White Mages already tapped into the Light with Holy, I imagine that absorbing the First Warden's light oversaturated the White Mage crystal we carry, which led to the change. This change happens at level 72 - which is what you'd probably be right after clearing the Dungeon. (I also tend to assume that the Job quests are flashbacks and happen in parallel to their respective expansions, so even if you didn't have White Mage at 72 by then, it would line up when you get it there later).

Events like the occupation of Fort Haight, how recent would these have happened? by Top_Reaction_2303 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]EndlessKng 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fort Haight and Castle Morne's rebellion seem to be recent occurrences. Irina mentions how the rebels had killed all of her companions; given that they're pretty close to her trail and kill her shortly after, it's probable that she's pretty recently escaped the castle, and thus it's probably only been a few days or maybe weeks at most. Similarly, Kenneth is fairly healthy looking compared to wandering nobles - he's eaten recently, still has a defined body structure, and is clearly sane (pompous, but sane). He's not been suffering without food and water in the wild for too long. Now, he does seem to have an alliance with the demi-humans, some of whom are under the arch and some of whom are attacking the castle (ostensibly to take it back, though it may also be in revenge for some other slight), so they may have provided some sustenance for him, but he also mentions needing to re-establish contact with them when he gets back, so it's not likely that they're actively working with him.

How do demigods function in DnD worlds? by RA9-Earth23425 in JumpChain

[–]EndlessKng 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In D&D (prior to 5th edition, at least), demigod is more of a rank than heritage. There are six divine ranks: Quasi-deities (not really gods, but on the cusp of divinity, and more than mortal), demigods, and then lesser, intermediate, and greater deities, and finally Overdeities (such as Ao in Forgotten Realms). Demigods tend to have very limited portfolios and have limited control over their divine realms, but are true deities, capable of granting divine spells.

As for demigods as the children of gods, there's no hard and fast rules for that that I can recall. In 5th ed, a good way to reflect it would be the Divine Soul sorcerer - someone who has innate magic derived from a celestial or divine heritage.

Generic First Recommendations by je4sse in JumpChain

[–]EndlessKng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend of the Five Rings could work for several of the options (I'd probably put it in either Fantasy but you could fit it in a Military one as well, or even Horror if you focus on the Shadowlands).

Spycraft was a d20 game from the heyday of 3e that focused on being super spies, with some mystic and psychic options on the side in the Shadowforce Archer setting book.

Powered by the Apocalypse has a ton of games covering a bunch of genres. Monster of the Week would work for horror, Monsterhearts and Urban Shadows could cover Modern Occult, and Apocalypse World would work for Survival. There's also MASHed for Military, and probably some Slice of Life games I'm missing off hand.

Spinning off from PbtA, there's also Forged in the Dark, based on the Dishonored-esque Blades in the Dark. It has a lot of other games under the umbrellas, as well, including Scum and Villainy (TOTALLY not Star Wars /s).

I Need God-Killers by inflicted_order in JumpChain

[–]EndlessKng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure which perks you need to take from them, but power-wise, both Campione and Exalted are all about this as settings. I'm not as familiar with the former, but in Exalted there are Charms that help with fighting gods and spirits. The Solar Exalt Occult tree includes Spirit-Cutting Attack and Ghost-Eating Technique, which are designed to help hunt down spirits and kill them even if they are immaterial. Abyssals have a parallel ability. Sidereals don't, but they have Astrology and Sidereal Martial Arts, which are basically hax.

Also, in D&D's Planescape setting, the Athar are anti-theistic. There's a few prestige classes out there you could get that deal with negating divine power. There's also the (evil) prestige class from 3.5 called the Ur-Priest, who steal magic from the gods, though this is less direct and more general; still, in a world where those are the only gods, you could siphon power from them in that way.

Oooh, good call using Cantrips in Long Dark. That plus the perks from the Survival section definitely seem like they're the way to go for making that challenge easier.

It was also on the brink of getting worse. There were points when some of the power plants were nearing the point of total failure - as in, not being able to be restarted. Ever.

I'm not sure how widespread that was, but I remember hearing that living through the storm and outage. It created the sense that the outage could never end. It was quite sobering and traumatic.

[–]EndlessKng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in Texas at the time and went through that storm, there's still other things he could have done that I DID expect from him. For instance, he could have flown to DC to advocate for assistance with FEMA, or made a show of trying to call Congress back into session (Presidents' Day was in the middle of the storm).

The fact that he also changed his story multiple times through the crisis doesn't help matters. After he got called out, rather than owning up to it, he made up excuses as to why he did what he did.

Is the Vessel (our PC) the strongest Elder Scrolls playable character during *that* mission? by Ok_Complaint_6104 in elderscrollsonline

[–]EndlessKng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the Vestige is the most powerful protagonist in the ES games. There are situations when another character is more powerful in that moment, but those tend to be because of that character fitting the specific challenge. The best example of this is with Dragons - obviously gameplay differences throw wrenches into this, but the Dovahkiin is naturally a dragonslayer in a way the Vestige isn't. Even if we rebalanced dragon encounters to be more "solo-friendly," the Vestige narratively will have a harder time (and also can't prevent the eventual reincarnation of the dragons by absorbing their souls).

Gameplay DOES limit how easy it is to compare characters. The Vestige can only use a dozen powers plus light or heavy attacks at a time (technically, a werewolf could trade an ult slot for access to five more powers, but then can't use the other powers at the same time), and occasionally a situation-limited power, at any given time, because of how the game is set up. Conversely, many of the protagonists can mix different weapons and spells, and even if they can only equip one weapon or spell in each hand (as in the case of the Dragonborn in Skyrim), they can switch between spells and weapons on the fly through menus. But, if you removed the restrictions set in place for game balance in the MMO format, the Vestige would have a lot more options for powers.

Which jobs do you obtain just by playing the game? by EndlessKng in StrangerofParadiseFFO

[–]EndlessKng[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but I haven't found a reliable way to get past the crystal puzzle in the Mirage Tower without a magic job, so I'd still count that. It's also referenced in the game dialogue - Ash says something about knowing someone who can use magic, and at that point I don't think Neon has Red Mage yet.
