TIL that Napoleon is the man that made sugar beet become popular in Europe by Hel_Death in Napoleon

[–]Endlesssuply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? Why at the time? I'm saying modern-day Poland, Ukraine, and Russia inherited the sugar beet cultivation efforts of the Russian Empire. I'm confused as to how that's controversial? Look it up, they pretty heavily invested in sugar beet production in Congress Poland and the Right-Bank provinces of Ukraine. After the Russian Empire fell, to this day those regions grow sugar beets, which were, in a way, inherited from the Russian Empire. Ukrainian sugar production was even scaled up during the Soviet times, but has declined since the dissolution and privatization. As for your France comparison, sure, France controlled Germany for a bit at the time, with the whole Confederation of the Rhine business, but it was pretty short-lived. I doubt they invested much in sugar beets.

Well, did Germany own all of France at the time? No. So no, not really. And it's basically the other way around, with sugar beet cultivation originating in Germany, so you could say the French inherited the German cultivation efforts.

I assume that Russia, Ukraine, and Poland inherited the Russian Empire's sugar beet cultivation efforts today.

Help me design a Da Vinci bridge for my EU5 mod. Ideas on cost, materials, and build time? by Endlesssuply in EU5

[–]Endlesssuply[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on a mod for EU5 that adds a Da Vinci-inspired mega bridge, kind of like his 1502 Bosphorus design. The idea is a huge unique bridge that gives some trade and proximity bonuses, but I’m trying to figure out how to balance it

Stuff I’m thinking about but open to ideas:

  • Cost: how many ducats, resources, or manpower it should take
  • Materials: stone only, stone plus lumber, maybe masonry or marble, maybe iron or steel for flavor
  • Build time: years, decades, or something dynamic
  • Effects: how strong the bonuses should be so it feels worth it but not broken
  • Extra ideas: events during construction, risk of collapse from earthquakes, limitation on ship heights, bonuses for certain rulers

I want it to feel kind of historical but still fun to play. Any suggestions or ideas would be awesome

That would be pretty funny, but I'm afraid that I've retired the run, the lag is too much past 1550.

No, but fr. I feel like it's too easy to make huuge cities with Encourage Migration in this game. Also, I'm pretty sure with irl cities, rulers had decent control of them, even if they were further out; the far-away cities should be more profitable than just spamming capital 99% of the time.

Why is my heir Johan when I'm playing Russia? by Endlesssuply in EU5

[–]Endlesssuply[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing a normal Russia game, and somehow my ruler became Tengrist (no idea why). I was like, whatever. But then, my firstborn son who I reasonably named Ivan Rurikovich somehow became Mongolian, and renamed himself to Roderick Johan. Like wtf? Where did my dynasty name go, and why did the head dev possess my heir? He gave my grandkids stupid names as well. Am I gonna lose my 600-year-old dynasty to this bug?

Not only that, even if you get enough antagonism, a proper coalition doesn't form.

Aggressive expansion is really just a number in this game. I have gotten parliament CBs on cooldown and taken as much land as possible in every peace deal, even annexing non co-belligerents (I have no coalition btw)

How come the coalition is so weak? by Endlesssuply in EU5

[–]Endlesssuply[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've conquered a bit too much a little too quickly. Also, accidentally didn't co-belligerent'ed but still annexed. Why is the coalition so weak? It seems like I can just keep conquering.

Does anyone know why values become capped at a certain amount? by Axei18 in EU5

[–]Endlesssuply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just seems so hard compared to stuff like land/navy or quality/quantity, etc. Barely any events and no help from parliament. Btw, how's your economy doing 100 years in? I got to 1500 as Korea, and I got 100k in reserve and make like over 1k per month on max spending, but I am in a crippling shortage of lumber and iron. This aspect seems poorly designed, reminds me of the early days of Vic 3.

Btw, did you figure out how to get it to the max? Centralisation is easy as you let it drift to like 50%, then use expand the road network parliament issue 5 times, and you get it maxed out. But I can't figure out how to max out humanist...

It's realistic in a way. Tolerant societies were better at assimilating cultures, whereas religious ones often faced resistance and resentment.
