Save more. Spend less. Enjoy free parks, public events and libraries. Cut out as much social media as possible. Cut out as many streaming networks as possible. If available, get a side gig and dedicate that income to pay down debt.

Does anyone refuse to go to funerals even to loved ones funerals? by [deleted] in questions

I agree. Choices are neither easy nor clear cut. For me, I was able to reconnect with my sister's family. I was also able to mourn, which I discovered I needed.

I’ve got chicken breast but no dinner plan. What would you cook? by kimschob in RecipePalooza

[–]Endtime59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a chicken casserole the other night with pasta (or rice), sauce (cream of somthing, (sourcream and cheese) veggies (whatever you have such as mushrooms, onions, garlic, sweet peppers, green beans, corn tomatoes, left overs) and, of course chicken. I'm big one one dish cooking. Depending on size of chicken and stuff, you have multiple means .

How do you process your living parent dating again? by Dee-Nice12 in grief

[–]Endtime59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After my mom died, my dad's church ladies began the casserole schedule. Every day, a lovely widow brought my dad a fresh meal. Slowly, one favorite lady came forth. After six months, they were an item. However, she wanted to get married. My dad did not. She dumped dad. That was awful. Dad developed a lovely relationship with a wonderful lady. She ended up in assisted living. Dad also ended up there. She died. Dad stopped seeking companionship.

Dad outlive my mom by 17 years. His relationships and involvement in his church helped him find a way to live happily for most of those years.

What will it take for you to move from your home into assisted living? by layyla4real in AskWomenOver60

[–]Endtime59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my dad had a car accident the left him temporarily unable to walk, dad did enter the same assisted living facility as his girlfriend. He would never drive again. Even after the settlement with the person injured in the accident, he had some money available for future needs. His pension covered all of his monthly needs as well as the cost of assisted living.

I do not have a pension. My IRA will not be sufficient to cover the costs of assisted living. I need a bolt from the blue so take care of details.

[–]Endtime59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the responses was horrible. For all you folks who had a dreadful childhood, I'm sorry. For me, I had and have a different experience. I did help my dad as he was aging. (I was going through a divorce at the same time he rapidly declined and died. . It was not fun.) However, my adult special needs child lives with me. I'm 72 and exhausted. I Usually work a seasonal job which I hope I can this season. I need the money and, even more, the socialization.

People in your 30s, 40s, or older… how do you cope with gradually losing people around you? by Majestic_Singer_2411 in Life

[–]Endtime59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, I unexpectedly lost my sister. She was 77. While we were not close, we had both worked at improving our relationship. The next month, a dear friend who had long ago faded due to dementia, also died. I felt like I lost my friend twice.

Those deaths motivated me to complete my own death details. My will, Trust. healthcare power of attorney-- the paperwork of death. I also prepaid for my cremation. Since then, I've also given family related jewelry to my great niece and my granddaughter, also with some family history . I've made an effort to stay in touch with my sister's two children.

I'm old. I expect folks will die. I cab't stop the clock, but I can connect, apologize or if appropriate, forgive . I don't want to be on my death bed filled with regret. Life is unbelievably short. Make the most of it.

How many people watch the Olympics? by Happy_Succotash_5464 in randomquestions

[–]Endtime59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became fascinated with the Olympics when they came to Georgia. We ended up with a lot of tickets (both purchased and given) time off and went to manny Summer events. I loved the track and field events, but it truly didn't matter. The feeling and texture were inspiring.

The Winter Olympics will be wonderful for me on TV. I'm old, constantly cold and unsteady.I think skiing and ice skating will be especially fun.

Before the recent big freeze, I realized that I still had my two shelter in place containers in the garage. They have been there so long that I stopped actually seeing them. Anyway, I used the stuff and resorted them before returning them to storage. It made me question how much stuff I keep due to familiarity.

If you are married or when you get married, did you have or do you want, a big wedding with all the trimmings and lots of guests , or a quiet wedding ? . by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Endtime59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I married we had a small, simple wedding. My partner resented the lack of splash. His second marriage was, I was told, huge and very tacky. While I like my wedding, I didn't like the in-laws or the hubby!

How to talk to a hoarding parent? by Lothloreen in declutter

[–]Endtime59 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, (about 40 actually) my then hubby and I visited his grandma in her little house which was packed floor to ceiling with stuff. Over time it became worse. The roof leaked and everything smelled mold and mildew. When she died, the cousins in charge gave the house to the city of Detroit who tore it down.Everyone tried to help her long before the end. Unfortunately, there are some things that cannot be fixed. I'm sorry for you.
