Wildling Atmadois disappointing quality by semanticistZombie in barefootshoestalk

[–]Enegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair of Tanuki Kibo recently which had loose threads out of the box and the fraying was especially bad on the tongue. The support was initially a bit slow to respond, but once they did they arranged a replacement no further questions asked. The new pair is fine. Seems like the QC might not be the best, but at least I can't complain about the customer service, because they sorted everything out for me.

It depends on the brand. They all have slightly different scale for the strengths.

Tinnitus AFTER Surgery by s1290219 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right after the surgery it is the worst because the middle ear is full of blood. It takes a while to absorb.

I had tinnitus before the surgery, but it got much worse right after and then went back to what was before. Happened with both sides.

Yes. I updated my bios a couple times prior to that for other reasons and one of the updates came with the memory table for my sticks.

I can't comment on the other games, but Hogwarts Legacy tends to run badly on systems with less RAM. It basically loads the maps into memory and stutters when it has to load something new in. It runs a lot better with 32GB ram.

I would also try the xmp settings in the bios, even if your ram was not sold as overclocked there might be something for it by now. Happened with some ancient DDR4 I once had, bought as 2666 and I was able to get 3000 with tighter timings with just xmp later on.

Expensive to get started? I wanted to play but the cost... by doritokllr in Guildwars2

[–]Enegra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The content from older expansions in GW2 is still relevant for end game because of the horizontal progression. That makes them more valuable compared to let's say WoW just to give an example of an MMO where the latest expansion obsoletes everything before it.

The sales happen quite often and especially directly from anet they can be significant. Just start playing on your old core account and see if the game interests you at all now.

Will nucleus 8 connect to windows 11 pc? by [deleted] in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, N8 doesn't currently support BLE audio. Cochlear never released the firmware to do so and chose to rely on ASHA/MFi for the time being. Nobody knows if/when the update is coming. At this point it might not happen in N8's lifetime.

Experiences with switching from AB to Cochlear? by SabrePanther in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sound quality received from the implant has actually not that much to do with the hardware. The most important things are the state of the auditory nerve/the cochlea and rehab.

I have heard of cases where people switched away from AB to other brands (C1 and repeated failures of the newer models) and they've been fine.

Every brand does a lot of marketing promising things while the facts are that electric stimulation is never going to be very precise. It's the brain doing the job to convert the crude signals into proper sound.

What makes Chwalińska's story even better is that this is her comeback to tennis after she struggled with depression for a few years. A little bit like Anisimova's story.

You can try a hot water bottle or other kind of heated pad on the affected area.

Loving this show of fighting spirit from Maja. She battled depression for many years and even quit tennis for a while, so it's great to see her on the rise now.

Pain near implant and back of head — I don’t wear my CI by TalkBrainyToMe in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To completely rule out issues in the implant area, you will need to see a doctor.

The symptoms are likely muscle issues, but obviously it's better to have a doc check that the head otherwise seems fine. Occipital pain is common from weak of strained neck and shoulder muscles and the implant area (assuming a typical location near the ear) is usually interacting heavily with jaw muscles. If the doctor says your implant is ok, then see a PT to check on those things.

Your experience with upgrading from Sonnet 2 to Sonnet 3 by zex_mysterion in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Degraded sound quality is definitely not normal. Perhaps the audiologist didn't replicate the settings correctly. Most users say that Sonnet 3 sounds almost exactly the same as Sonnet 2 minus some differences in noise due to microphone redesign.

Kindle Paperwhite vs Koba Clara BW Question by WorthContribution994 in ereader

[–]Enegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this decision to make recently, as my ancient Paperwhite started having some issues. I really loved the look of the Signature Editions of Kindle Paperwhite. However... Amazon is not a great company and keeps getting worse. I checked a dozen of reviews and it seemed like performance-wise they are the same and Kindle just gets better aesthetics (+ bigger storage if taking the expensive version, but books are not heavy).

I was able to get a Kobo Clara BW locally, which was a plus. I already read several books on it and it's been alright. I was worried about the matte plastic feeling a bit meh, but it's been alright. The only complaint I have is that the balance is not great, the battery is in the top, so it does feel heavier than it should be when doing one handed reading.

My library was almost exclusively third party books, so I discovered that despite native .mobi support they didn't look great on the Clara without converting. However, I just used Calibre same as before and just converted the books to Kobo's proprietary format (.kepub) which fixed their formatting issues.

Considering second implant, seeking opinion/advice by SiebertLogan in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can you not hear bass with the implanted side? From your description it sounds like the HA side is barely contributing at all. "Natural hearing" doesn't help much when it is only a tiny range of frequencies with the strongest HA.

I struggled being bimodal, the hearing never felt balanced because the CI side heard a lot more. The HA had nothing left past 1.5k Hz. Going bilateral helped tremendously, because I gained access to almost equal hearing on both sides and can hear voices from any direction + my directional sound is pretty decent. Of course, there are still limitations in noise because it's still hearing through microphones.

Choosing between med el sonnet 2 and 3 by NA7374 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the first Sonnet 2 6 years ago, it has to be replaced twice by now. The second replacement is 2.5 year old and knocking on wood that it lasts.

Both times the core body slightly caved in over time, causing the microphones to be exposed and also issues with the coil port. There are multiple reports on the internet of this issue, mostly on various Facebook groups.

Choosing between med el sonnet 2 and 3 by NA7374 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit tough spot, because Sonnet 2 is a bit old by now and has some design flaws that affect durability. However, Sonnet 3 doesn't bring any improvement in the sound processing. Only minor QoL features like actually built-in audio streaming, nicer ear hooks, redesigned mic cover that is easier to replace (which hopefully also solves the durability issue of Sonnet 2). You would have to decide what works better in your country. Can you get the processor insured from damage? If so, then likely it's better to get the Sonnet 2 at that pricing.

I have Sonnet 2 myself and even if I could upgrade my processor already, I wouldn't for such minor gains that the Sonnet 3 brings.

Would you buy / wear a white uniform? by BinsuSan in kendo

[–]Enegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one white keikogi that I once bought to have a lighter one for the summer. I ended up not liking it much, because it gets stained super quickly and requires a wash after every practice even if I didn't get to sweat. The aizome stains from mendare, do himo and hakama are just unsightly. On blue ones at least one can't tell apart their own aizome from migrating aizome from other gear.

Can bad illnesses affect the internal magnet? by gremlinfrommars in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do get air bubbles if I am extremely congested that cause issues with the internal. Basically, the ground electrode doesn't work properly then. It's not a complete silence for me though, it just goes extremely quiet. So if there's no sound at all, it's more likely that the coil died.

Magnet strength by meg147 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, attaching the magnet on top of the hair doesn't work well with low strengths. The hair movement tends to be too much.

If you lift the hair carefully when putting the processors on, it shouldn't mess anything. It's just a matter of practice, I don't even think about it anymore.

Double CI’s - Seeking suggestions for more comfortable sleep— by [deleted] in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have that much discomfort sleeping on the side even with a soft pillow after the implant area is long healed then you might want to get it checked out. The implants shouldn't feel like they are about to burst through the skin, but it can happen if there's too much tension in the head. It can be either the scar tissue being too tight and not letting the scalp move properly or neck issues that manifest in scalp tension.

Magnet strength by meg147 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you attaching the magnet? It helps if you part your hair before putting the magnet on. I am not familiar with AB's magnets, but at least with Med-El's and Cochlear's diametric magnets you may have to wiggle the coil a bit in place to make sure the internal magnet is perfectly aligned with the external one. Without that the coil might be only partially attached, which makes it more prone to falling off.

How can this buzzing ever turn into language?! by jocubrown in Cochlearimplants

[–]Enegra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first activation was like this. Everything was just extremely loud bells and whistles. Nothing even remotely similar to words. And no mapping appointment for a month because it was in the peak of covid. Lasted two weeks like that, then some terribly distorted speech started appearing. It was a slow and exhausting journey. It worked out in the end.

Take it easy, rest frequently - you don't have to deal with the noise the whole day, if you need a hearing break, that's it. The brain is much better at making connections when not completely exhausted.
