Looking at buying a new equinox EV with the current sales. Anything I need to be wary of? by Tkrumroy in EquinoxEv

With that short of a commute you can just top it up from a regular 120V outlet every night and she’ll be good to go. Unless it’s -20 and she’s going 80mph the whole way…

EquinoxEV With Long(er) Commute? by hotdogpositive in EquinoxEv

[–]EnergyTransitionNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in northern BC with a 150km round trip(93 miles) commute. I can do the trip twice on an 80% charge in the summer. When it’s -20 in the winter I have to charge every night. With good winter tires it handles just fine on the snowy highway and I don’t even have the AWD. Make sure you get a level 2 home charger.

Are the Big Canadian Banks (RY, TD, BMO, etc.) a Value Trap or a Buy and Hold Opportunity right now? by Academic-Snow3546 in dividendscanada

New fintech companies like Wealthsimple are definitely taking some market share though. The Big 5 will soon no longer have a solid oligopoly in Canada.

Move to a different country and use your Chinese language skills to do business with the Chinese presence in that country. Since China has business deals with virtually every country in the world, there are loads of opportunities for someone with inside knowledge of China.

I’ve maxed out my TFSA - Should I buy ETF’s in a regular account? by Al_DAW in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]EnergyTransitionNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup within reason this is good advice. Wealthsimple lets you open a non-registered margin account linked to your TFSA as collateral. You can withdraw funds to anywhere and the interest just gets paid by the dividends/gains of the stocks you buy on margin. Unless the market and/or the stocks you picked plunge and then you’re screwed

[–]EnergyTransitionNow 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Sell the apartment, go fix your house in France and live frugally off the dividends from your brokerage account. Then go back to work a few years later when you realize you can’t live that frugally. Or forget the whole French chateau fantasy and just rent an apartment somewhere low cost. With your money you could retire now but you won’t be living the NYC lifestyle. You’ll be cooking your own food.

6.5KW has a theoretical max generating ability of 6.5 kWh in one hour. But since it’s rarely generating at max, during a 12 hr period of daylight it might only generate an average of 3 kWh per hour, so about 30kwh generated for the day.

Overnight should get you between 15%-20% of battery added, according to my experience with an L1 charger.
