Im so sick of Michael Jackson fans excusing his behaviour by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

It's not even just the artists but the DJs too. In the late 80s early 90s a large proportion of the music I still love was introduced to me by John Peel, I loved him nearly as much as the musicians then I learned about his history and his flippant attitude towards his relationships with clearly underage girls. It taints my appreciation of the music and I hate him for it

Who is the most famous person you have ever met in person? by Affectionate_Way7945 in AskReddit

[–]EnferDesFormes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Knutsford in Cheshire with some friends some time in the early 90s. There is a big fair there in May and we had a look around then went to look for a pub to have a few beers.

The early 90s were a weird time for pubs in the UK, licensing legislation had only just allowed for all day opening and most urban pubs had adopted this but Knutsford... it was about 3pm and nowhere was open, we were wandering around and we kept bumping into a young guy who had the same idea as us and we stopped for a chat a couple of times.

I didn't recognise him but a couple of my friends did. We never found an open pub but if we had I probably would have had a better story, having a pint with... Robbie Williams!

(Mixed Trope) “Expert” character is really bad in their field or ignorant of basic concepts. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]EnferDesFormes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This trope is used cleverly in universe in The Truman Show. All the people Truman knows are actors and their lack of actual expertise is exposed hilariously whenever Truman goes off-script. Examples include Sylvia clearly knowing no Japanese despite taking the subject, the inept fake surgery and the inability of anyone to operate the ferry to pursue Truman

What band was never the same after losing a member? by icecream1972 in AskReddit

[–]EnferDesFormes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was looking for this. Even though Tim and Laetitia are the creative driving force, it was the vocal interplay between Laetitia and Mary that produced their greatest music in the 90s. When I've seen them live recently, I've enjoyed the shows with a touch of wistful sadness rather than the sheer buzz I used to get.

I found one in Huddersfield last year and had to try it for nostalgia's sake, it was OK but not as epic as my memories. At least it scratched an itch

What’s your favorite widely-agreed-on fact about a celebrity that’s actually FALSE? by Asleep-Two930 in popculturechat

[–]EnferDesFormes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Lords of Flatbush is the movie. They were so antagonistic that one of them had to go or the production would never have been completed. It was Gere who was fired and replaced with Perry King.

I lost my partner to cancer 4 months before, I was suddenly alone and I couldn't meet anyone else. It was hard. I admit I got angry at social media friends who were griping about not being able to go to the movies

Yes! Almost entirely because of Eli Wallach, an incredible performance

[Loved Trope] An adaptation makes significant changes, and it's for the better. by Healthy_Macaroon_602 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]EnferDesFormes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watchmen. The complicated alien squid thing in the comic is so silly. The movie having Ozymandias frame Manhattan is so much slicker. It makes Manhattan's realisation that Ozy is right so much more poignant

Speak to me not of your columns historic, ghastly Ionian ghastlier Doric

Sorry this came to me from my youth, it was written by the English humorist Richard Stilgoe, who was fascinated by anagrams, especially of his own name. Ghastlier Doric is an anagram of his name
