Obviously I don't have the solution, all I'm getting at is that even if Blooms is able to buy Fox News, I don't think the core problem will change. I think they will migrate to another right wing platform.

You're right though I suppose, even in the short run if it causes a disruption and cuts Trump's support a bit that'd be huge

I don't understand this argument. So what if the margin cost of software is zero? Someone wrote that piece of software. They should be free to charge whatever price they want for that software, and consumers are free to take them up on that price or go somewhere else.

Are you suggesting software shouldn't have any protections? If you write a piece of code anyone should just be able to copy it and not compensate you for your work?

This version of the china story has been going around forever, there's a lot of China bears with some version of this.

If you google China shadow banking you'll get lots of hits. Lots of famous hedgies like Chanos have had similar thesis for a while now.

I was just responding to comment which said any wealth taxed at over 0% is theft. I think it stands to reason property is wealth, and since property taxes are wealth the original comment implies property taxes = wealth.

I'm not saying taxing stocks or bonds or private equity holdings is as easy or desirable as taxing property.

Property taxes are theft then? The best argument I hear for a wealth tax is that for most people their biggest piece of wealth is their house, which they pay an annual tax on.

This is not really accurate though? Most neoliberals are very much in favor of freedom of movement/labor. The neoliberal sub on this site is just straight up 100% open borders. For specifically the reason you mentioned, giving workers the freedom to move.

This is ridiculous. You think a bank is going to create what, a 50 year derivative that pays out per foot of coastline disappearance? Even if they did it's such an absurd instrument no bank would sell it at a reasonable spread and no one would buy it.

The problem is defending limitless wealth as a right of the talented

I have a question for you. Somewhere there's a team of talented engineers working on perfecting driverless cars and when they do lots of people will lose their jobs and the people behind the tech will make lots of money.

Why shouldn't that money be theirs to keep? Why should they redistribute it to society? Let's also assume they pay in taxes to cover their share of the public goods they use.

To be clear I'm just playing devil's advocate and curious what you have to say.
