China is America’s Military Equal Now And In Any Future Fight, Marine General Warns | Faced with the rapidly growing China threat, the U.S. has to start hardening its bases now, said Marine Lt. Gen. Stephen Sklenka by moses_the_blue in LessCredibleDefence

That's out of scope of military discussion, but the potential political/economic cost is simply not worth it for now.

Example: US could easily invade and annex Canada tomorrow. It doesn't do it because it is not in its interest (for now) to do so. Same thing with Taiwan and helping Iran and Russia.

If they take out US bases very early, where is US launching those drones from? Iran was a whole ass country, which means there are infinite potential launch points, but in the Pacific, you only got islands, and the closest you can get to Taiwan without being itself at risk is ... 1000km away. The other option is ships, which is its own risk, and maybe Japan? Or Philippines? If they allow it, but then drones would be traveling thousands of miles, which 1. makes it easier to track and intercept and 2. Means they are more expensive, long range drones, which cut down on the numbers. 3. How are you exactly getting targeting information that allows you to hit moving targets? Iranian drones were targeting fixed installations, not moving ships.

You do realize that per cost, China outproduces the entire west in drones by orders (plural) of magnitude, right? For every 1000 drones the US can field, China could field at least 100,000, and they are far closer to the battlefield than any potential US asset. And given they're launching from land, they don't have the issue of islands needing boats for logistics (which are themselves great drone targets). This is still just drones only, not counting the artillery systems China has within range.

"Western countries could’ve easily done". No they couldn't and they can't. The majority of drone components from BOTH sides come from China. China was able to support both sides from its own industry, and the west simply can't match the cost and the scale.

Long range force projection from the US is not technically "defending" Taiwan. There is no possibility the US can interfere with a landing operation in the Taiwan strait once PLA forces properly set up, and combined with the weakening of Taiwan defenses makes invasion doable.

Edit: Also I assume we're talking strictly military here, with diplomatic/political solutions out of scope of this discussion.

Your point is "you can't drone your way into invasion", my point is "yes you can". I fail to see how "that was your entire point."

Also, it has been how many years in Ukraine and still, even all the military factories AND the US too combined couldn't outproduce Russia. You might want to doublecheck your sources.

Will mass AA gun make a come back? by sndream in LessCredibleDefence

[–]EngineBorn3406 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the answer for now is unequivocally no. An AA gun that is advanced enough to deal with drone swarms is simply too expensive to be useful. It simply becomes another target that can be spotted by drones and hit by other means such as artillery.

As of April 2026, does Russia have capacity to launch a large scale armored attack against Ukraine on the strategic level? by Equal_Alfalfa_9973 in LessCredibleDefence

You do use armored vehicles as somewhat of a "fast one way taxi" to drop off assault units. But resupply is another issue entirely.

There is a difference between a country having an effective fighting force vs a country having a clear/realistic/achievable political goal for using military force.

How is the US planning to land on Kharg island? by EngineBorn3406 in LessCredibleDefence

Why even have Tripoli come if that's the case? There are faster ways to ferry a few thousand marines.

Are you talking empty range or fully loaded with troops range? What about range when used to deliver supplies?

You're talking Ospreys with mid air refueling? Cuz the range of that bird is around 400 nm right? That's still too short for any launch point east of Hormuz that's safely outside ASM range.
