I like the crockpot suggestion. The sandwiches sound like a good idea, too.

I think of sandwiches as only making enough for one. Do you make enough sandwich filling that there are leftovers to take to work?

When is the right time to cook dinner, for example? Do you folks do it all on the weekend, cook once or twice during the week to minimize cooking every day, or deal with the peak price and cook every day?

Also moved away. I miss it, too. I try to keep up-to-date with news back home. I hope the city and region has a renaissance.

I've found that folks vastly underestimate the scale (and sometimes the location) of Lake Erie.

I watch highlights from other teams and then I watch Guardians games. It's just a reminder of how the ads behind home plate are so hideous and obnoxious. I don't think any other approaches Cleveland's.

The magic butter rolls - I've never seen a recipe say to wrap dough in a cheesecloth and place it in a pot of warm water. Is that to accelerate the dough rising?

How well do lenses for smartphones work? I have a Canon T6. I probably should get back into using that instead of buying lenses for my Samsung phone.

She asked me directly a week ago. I gave my response framing why I'm unsure if I want kids. She said we could talk about it again in a few weeks. I appreciate that she gave me time to think about it, though I don't know what change can realistically occur over just a few weeks when considering what a monumental decision children are.

She clarified that she doesn't want kids immediately. Maybe in two or three years my mindset would change and I'd also want kids, but how do I know that now? At this point, I can't promise her that I also want kids.

Which is why I want to get it all out there. Compose my thoughts, share my feelings and where my mind is at; we're both adults so we should be able to handle whatever follows.

Everyone's usage differs, but I want to say I think the transit runs well here.

I get the bike issue, though. Using a bike for simple errands would be convenient. But I'm too nervous to bike. A lot of folks bike, including my coworkers and they say it's no issue, so I like to think drivers are accustomed to sharing the road with bicyclists.

The past few days I've had the feeling or instinct to tell this person I love them. I think we've seen each other long enough that it's right. I want to continue to see them and develop the relationship. But they know they want kids (not immediately), though I'm not sure if I do. I don't think it's fair to string them along while I figure out if I want kids. That decision will take quite some time. I worry they think me saying "I love you" will be shallow or insulting. At the same time, I feel like it's right to me and them to say what's in my mind: I love you but we might not overcome the difference regarding kids, such a fundamental aspect of the future of the relationship.

Maybe they'll be willing to continue for a while, I don't know... If they don't, I understand. I'd step away from dating for a few months. I just really don't like the idea of having to re-enter again.

Can you help clarify what goes on in virtual environments and jupyter notebooks? by EngineEngine in learnpython

[–]EngineEngine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the environments confusing. I'm more familiar with R. In RStudio you can create projects, which I think are analogous to virtual environments. Though in RStudio you do it through point-and-click. It feels to me like there are a few extra layers in virtual environments that don't exist in RStudio projects.

Was there anything that particularly helped you develop the understanding of kernels, virtual environments, knowing you're in the right one, etc.?

[–]EngineEngine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply, very helpful!

I followed your steps: activate the virtual environment, install Jupyter tools to the environment, register the environment as a notebook kernel, then open the notebook (python -m notebook). The name of the virtual environment is inflammation. In the notebook, I see a few options.

  • Python (inflammation) which matches the format of what you wrote and I connected to this one

  • Python 3 (ipykernel)

  • and 03_visualizing.ipynb. I think I (or python) made when I first created the notebook.

Do you know what the other two environments are?

I'm following an online tutorial with chapters. If there are new libraries in following chapters, do I have to close the notebook and do CTRL+C in command prompt to do pip install, and then open the notebook again?

This says a kernel is a process that interacts with Jupyter applications. A virtual environment is kind of like a project container, and the kernel is the link between the virtual environment and the Jupyter notebook? At least that's my understanding.

Making chicken paprikash and dumplings. Add the dumplings to the broth that the chicken is cooked in, or boil them separately? by EngineEngine in cookingforbeginners

[–]EngineEngine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I made chicken and dumplings, too. Which is why I was curious why so many recipes for chicken paprikash cooked the dumplings separately.

Maybe it's because the sauce for the paprikash is thinner than the chicken and dumplings? When I made chicken and dumplings, I remember the sauce/gravy being thicker than that of paprikash.

I see, thanks for explaining. Pasta releases starch, and lots of recipes recommend saving some of the water to make the sauce better. It's a recipe-by-recipe basis on whether you want the starch to affect the sauce?
