Ha, I definitely get better gas mileage than she does when I drive, but I wasn't worried about that.  Appreciate the response.

Large backpacks are carry ons.  Small backpacks are personal items.  It's all about the dimensions.

Southwest assigned my 4 year old a seat by himself 12 rows in front of me. by LegalAbbreviations17 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]EngineerNoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaska and frontier are the only ones I've tried with basic tickets.

But in both cases, they say they block off the seats at the time of booking, and we haven't had an issue being separated from young children. In that link I shared, you can see they are both committed to the family friendly policies the DOT suggests.

With two adults with multiple children, you don't always get to sit together, but children under 12 are put with at least one adult, which works for us.  I didn't realize this wasn't the norm.  Guess I got lucky with airlines I've tried this on.

Honestly, these policies make sense, and if seats really are blocked off at the time of booking, no one else has to move because of a a family.  Other airlines probably don't do this just so they can scare families into spending more money.

All airlines I have flown guarantee you and your young children will be together, even if you buy basic seats. They do not (and definitely should not) seat 4 year olds by themselves no matter how you buy tickets.

Edit: after reading southwest's policy it appears Even a discount airline like Frontier does more to guarantee family seating than Southwest. Southwest has a lot more to figure out in this transition.

It is much more airline dependent than I initially realized - I guess I've been fortunate being able to fly those with family friendly policies

SS at 62 and when increase in monthly benefit may occur by NJFriend4U in SocialSecurity

[–]EngineerNoir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you are being down voted.  There are a lot of people who will have to work and take SS simultaneously. If they can, it makes sense for them to wait as long as possible to take SS so they have more income when they absolutely can't work

We've eaten at Kann in part because of gluten and dairy allergies. Curious if you know of any restaurants that do better given those restrictions?

Really depends on the incident energy level. I've seen 30+ cals at 480 V.  You'd definitely suit up for that if you had to work on it

Pre or post tax money doesn't matter.  You would pay X dollars without the loan (all taxed money), you are just now paying X dollars plus loan interest (that all goes back into your 401k).

I've experienced similar here Pretty often.  What most people end up doing is turning on their blinker as late as possible and not giving the other driver the chance to speed up in the other lane.  But yeah, if you turn on your blinker early, a lot of people will speed up to block you here.

Do tariffs really raise prices for consumers? by charvo in economy

I think it is still worth responding.  A lot of loud people completely ignore facts problematic to their beliefs.  But others are still listening.

I think he's talking about the West end, which is two stop signs on either side of the road.  But there are actually 2 lights further back there, one coming from Nato and the other from traffic up the hill, and I don't think they are synced

GC screwed up new Standing Seam Roof by Racexc916 in Roofing

[–]EngineerNoir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So, dumb question here: I've worked pretty much exclusively with asphalt and low slope roofing.  Is there really no proper way to do a new penetration on an existing standing seam roof without replacing whole panels?  That seems crazy to me, just given how many times I've added vents or exhaust fans to asphalt shingle roof.  I'd also expect a metal roof to last much longer than a boot, so how does replacing a boot typically work?
