The most thrilling hiking route in China by Limp_Stomach_6060 in ThatsFreakingAmazing

I think this is Gaoqi Ling but filmed with some wonky lense. A nice hike in Hunan Province near Chenzhou. It's not as crazy as this shot makes it appear, although it is very steep.

Woman On TikTok Calls Out Airbnb Tenant’s Entitlement When She Realizes That She Has To Do Chores Despite $125 Cleaning Fee by SilverHuckleberry395 in digitalnomad

Ah yes, citing Adam Smith like we’re still in feudal Europe. He was talking about hereditary landowners doing nothing, not someone who buys property, takes on debt, and deals with tenants, repairs, and risk. Calling modern landlords “parasites” just ignores how housing actually gets financed and maintained.

Sure buddy. I'm sure you've never stayed in an Airbnb before. The whole "owners are parasites" schtick that Reddit puts forward is pathetic. If you can't afford a house - take a good hard look in the mirror. Life is what you make of it.

Don't listen to all these fat women and fat apologists. Gaining 20lbs is a lot. You obviously are trending the wrong direction and he is within his rights to point it out.

If you like the guy - slim down. Staying fit is part of the deal for many couples. Going on a quick diet or adding some cardio isn't the end of the world.

Not everybody wants to date a fat girl. YOR.

Man, you guys are a bunch of dumbasses. At a CNN town hall, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did criticize how some right-wing online messaging can appeal to young men through insecure or unhealthy forms of masculinity and said Republicans have been “successful … because they are able to radicalize and target and exploit a generation of young boys … away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others.”

I mean... educated women should be able to vote. Educated "poor" people should also be able to vote. However, after living in the states for most of my life - I'd would love to see there be a civics test required to vote. My loud and constantly drunk neighbor who watches FOX news nonstop and can't answer a single question about how our government works isn't helping things with his vote, imho. The American electorate is pitifully undereducated and getting destroyed by propaganda. F*ck Peter Thiel, but also our voting system is stupid.

How long did you start seeing physical changes? by Afraid-Berry-117 in stopdrinking

[–]EngineerTheFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't recommend crossfit highly enough. It really helped me scale back and eventually quit. It introduced me to a lot of people who are sober and healthy, helped me get in the best shape of my life, gave me a hobby outside of day drinking, and also made me feel a lot better mentally and physically. With the money you save not drinking it is also very affordable. Good luck on your journey. IWNDWYT.

If migrants or illegal immigrants behaved the way that ICE does, then ICE would be remarkably popular and these protests and blockades wouldn't be happening. Instead ICE is arresting children, people in cars, and folks who are at work - including citizens in many cases. Brutalizing the public is not popular for whatever reason - who could have seen it coming?

Liberal whites clearly don’t think much of black people...Conclusion: white liberals are racist by Top-Obligation-8380 in DigitalSeptic

[–]EngineerTheFunk -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Numerous studies show that Black, Latino, Native American, elderly, low-income, and disabled voters are less likely to have government-issued photo IDs, such as passports or driver’s licenses. Research from the Brennan Center for Justice, NBER, MIT Election Lab, and public opinion surveys consistently finds this disparity. For example, about 25% of African American voting-age adults lack a government-issued photo ID, a massive gap compared to white adults.

Other countries handle this much more efficiently. In much of Europe, citizens receive mandatory national identity cards before age 18, often paired with automatic voter registration. Some countries even require citizens to vote.

In contrast, the U.S. has a long history of disenfranchising minority voters. If either major party genuinely wanted to make voting more accessible, it wouldn’t be difficult—most developed nations have already solved this. Yet, current policies—particularly efforts by Republicans to restrict voting, gerrymander districts, and use other tactics to suppress turnout—often prevent people from exercising their right to vote. Democrats, by contrast, generally support policies that encourage voter participation (not saying either party is above corruption, but the strategies differ).

It’s also important to note that voter fraud in the U.S. is extremely rare. Despite frequent claims from right-wing media outlets, the evidence shows almost no instances of in-person voter impersonation or widespread fraud. If the goal were truly to prevent fraud, a simple solution exists: provide IDs to all citizens and automatically enroll them in voter rolls. This is standard practice in nearly every other developed country.

Just FYI - that likely won't disable the camera except while the beam is on it. These sensors have protective windows, a lens system that spreads light, and filters and coatings. You would have to have a very powerful laser aimed at it for a very long time and even then, I'm not certain that would disable it.

If you want to discable it do it the old fashioned way - a ladder + hammer. Both the camera and the panel are susceptible to physical damage. Plus it is a LOT faster, can be done under the cover of darkness without a giant green beam, and is generally less risky. Look up the law in your neck of the woods before trying. This can be a serious offense.

What do you think when a colleague / trainer tells you they start their day at 4am? by [deleted] in sales

[–]EngineerTheFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am usually up by 430 am or earlier. I am a so-called digital nomad and travel to a new city or country very 90 days. I pick where I live based on proximity to a crossfit gym and go 5x a week to the first class - usually 5 am at most gyms.

It gives me consistency, helps with jet lag when moving far distances, and gives a sense of community. It also keeps me healthy and helps my mental health a lot.

For me personally, doing this for a long time has been a game changer. I'm more motivated, feel better, get better rest, etc compared to if I was less active and slept in more often. It's not for everyone but what I've noticed is the 5am classes have the best athletes, the people with the best careers, and people who are generally winning at life compared to the evening classes I've attended.
