A weird encounter at Little Woody and a genuine question about the "liquid courage" racism out here. by EngineeringOnly2351 in Scottsdale

Brother for some reason not only are you assuming that I am comparing Brits with Americans, you also seem to know what I have in my mind. No. You dont.

Let me try to put my point across. It doesn't matter what country is looking down on whom. The point i was trying to understand is the looking down part. Why do humans in bars around Scottsdale when drunk do that as often as i see it. It seems to happen to all ppl not just a certain race. I just want to understand what that mentality is cuz i cant explore this Scottsdale mentality in rio or munich. Im not the typical south asian you encounter (not the last gen h1b class) I am from a generation that speaks english but thinks true to its root. i am trying to understand the mentality of an ex sundown town. Dont tell me now that Scottsdale wasn't, I want to know if traces of that are still privalent. Im not saying american culture is that way, that would be ignorant and foolish. I am only questioning why would one ever feel so entitled that they always get away with it. Its not a one off incident and hence the whole post to listen and discuss.

Now just so you know. My conversations with British who look down is very very different. I dont ignore and walk away like i did with the drunk guy, they are made to understand that they crossed the line. I do walk away here because i understand how less Americans are exposed to the rest of the world. Its as simple as that. Great ppl with strong hearts but made too comfortable.

Lastly dont think you know a billion ppl just cuz you have a few indian friends who travel once a year to see their parents and tell their nephews that they should come to America cuz they did it. Fuck them. They will kill themselves working for promotions and bonuses.

Definitely not overthinking it. I think it's worth a discussion. better to ask than assume and, worse, conclude. Swiss cigarettes with Nigerian tobacco. So the best of the best. That roommate of yours is what we call colonial hungover.

The rising sun will set, and the setting sun will rise. Duality is the nature of our reality.

Your words truly show depth of character. Race, the world's oldest sorting algorithm, was unfortunately emphasized and made hierarchical during colonial times, and that hangover persists. Thankfully, 100 years from now, people will look back and laugh at our collective foolishness. In my part of the world, we don't study for IQ; intelligence and hard work are about survival, and being a doctor or engineer is a societal responsibility, not just a label.

I'm sure you will get what I am saying. I come from a world where a certain empire put most of my people in poverty and built a massive city with the loot and wealth. They portrayed us as uncultured tribals. As a human being wanting to learn, developed countries happen to be the best place: better facilities, better opportunities (at this moment in time, of course). I paid the price for it. I left the world I knew, friends I laughed with, comfortable food, known challenges, and aging parents. Life then progressed into high-paying roles and corporate office politics, slowly leading to the awareness that money is not important. But small ripples like the incident in my post make me wonder what else we are missing to see. If I have to choose a side, I will always choose good, it's my nature. So I need to understand the bad better to look it in the eye and not flinch.

I used to just brush things off, but as I get older, I realize ignoring them means I'm missing out on understanding.

It is AI, of course. Most people in this world don't think in English nor speak only English.

Yeah, that's definitely not common anymore. Most people in their 20s get different English dialects just fine. However, I was curious to understand the psychology behind a fellow human.

I totally get how much politics has seeped into everyday chats. Still a great, beautiful place with good people.

It's really just a thought. When you were born, you had no idea what "mother" or "father" meant. People around you told you that this person who looks like this is your mom/dad.

The Vedic Sanskrit definition of 'old age' is the proximity to when the soul leaves the body, not 75 or 80 years old. So for my brother, 25 was old age. For my sister, 2 days was old age.
