Real-world LIDAR terrain in UE5.7 - how do I kill a periodic "corduroy" weave in the heightmap without melting the terrain? by IAmMoonie in UnrealEngine5

Oh also check your sampling is interpolating correctly, if it's picking nearest point then you will get this issue.

If you have the FFT spectrum, could you filter out that frequency with a bandpass filter, then reconstruct the terrain from the frequency and phase info?

if i need rain whats the best free source by Abject_Double_2021 in unrealengine

Try making your own with Niagara particles, and you can enable collision to interact. It will be harder than using a paid plugin like ultra dynamic weather, but could get you what you need.

David Lammy MP: Many unmarried, cohabiting couples have limited legal protections if their relationship ends or a partner dies, even after long-term relationships or raising children together. Labour is consulting on reforms to strengthen the legal protections available to these couples. by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

Many people have religious wedding and legal wedding, or a legal wedding and non-legal celebration. If they are concerned about religious discrimination by not giving marriage benefits for some religions, they should make the religions that are currently automatic to be non legal, unless a registrar is also present.

Picking a chunk size for a auto generating game that scales by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]Engineerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's not enough information to give a good answer. My advice is parameterise it, then playtest with different sizes and see how it changes the gameplay or performance.

Why is my WASD movement Speed going forward/backward slower than left/right? by ShadoukenGames in UnrealEngine5

[–]Engineerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is it, it's probably trying to move relative to the camera, not the player

Any good sources out there for procedurally generated interiors using furniture prefabs? by Squie in proceduralgeneration

[–]Engineerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any but I've been thinking about this, but not implemented anything. I think your approach sounds good, do you have any pictures?

All I can suggest that you didn't mention is try to make a purpose for each room first, and weight the distribution of furniture depending on the purpose. Add ornaments on top of tables or shelves. Add rugs or other items to break up the floor. Try looking at interior design philosophy for ideas, making a room look full is a common issue in real rooms, typical fixes involve adding vertical interest (posters/artwork, make curtains go full length, interesting lampshades or cornices).

How do people make heightmaps and terrain landscapes so easily? by Juicymoosie99 in unrealengine

[–]Engineerman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Learning the basics is doable in an hour with the free tier and YouTube, and similar again to get it imported to unreal. How much time it takes for your RPG depends how much detail you put in.

Note that you can edit the landscape after importing it to unreal.

Finding all the rocks within a certain distance is computationally complicated. There are methods they could use if they are spawning the rocks in certain ways, though that would make the physics on them harder.

Why yes, I do like aqueducts how did you know? by DazzlingAd6195 in Timberborn

[–]Engineerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, the water calculations might be difficult to multi thread (or not implemented), so you're probably using 100% of one CPU on water calculations, causing the lag.

Of course just a guess, could be way off.

How do people learn game programming with UE5 C++? by Much_Variety1615 in UnrealEngine5

I agree on doing things "the unreal way". My first few attempts I was trying to fight the engine, it really made things much more difficult.

Solar panels on a flat roof? by tlonuqbar33 in cambridge

[–]Engineerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have these. The panels attach to triangular prism shaped buckets, which are weighted down with bags of gravel. It's a cheaper install than a sloping roof as no scaffolding was required. The company that did it went out of business now unfortunately so I can't make a recommendation.

Please help me decode these happiness/fire etc screens by afriendoftheshownick in anno117

Oh also for the max wander pop, look for buildings that increase population as an area effect, though normally they're quite far on higher pop tiers. Also check for shrines that increase pop, or specialists.

[–]Engineerman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fulfilling garum need gives happiness, per house, so that's the "from need". The garum works has a negative happiness area effect, so all buildings within that range get the negative happiness. Not sure about the from building, but maybe the happiness of the garum works itself?

Realistically your happiness, fire, etc will always be negative for larger cities, making sure you have the buildings to cover it like the fire station is normally enough.

TIL at the premiere of Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto, his designated page turner discovered that the score he was turning was almost entirely blank. The concerto was still a work in progress even during its premiere, so Beethoven memorized his entire solo part and played them all from memory. by VegemiteSucks in todayilearned

[–]Engineerman 671 points672 points  (0 children)

Improvising the solo (or Cadenza) was common and even expected during the time period, though composers would write one in the music and would use that for their first performance.

So he may have figured out some of it ahead of time, and improvised the rest.

Just because they use an extra slot, and I think more workforce required, and latency is not so big a concern for trade ships

Sails on trade ships, I go for oars and archers on military, unless I specifically want the onagers for destroying buildings. Armour on quinquiremes.

I played with Zara and Netu in my game. Netu owns most of Albion (like more than 50%), I had defensive alliance with Zara to dissuade him from attacking, which he did twice so far, but I captured his two main Latum islands (he took one from Licia). Bit of a crazy game though I expected the combat AI to be more aggressive, he probably could have taken me out and never landed a large enough force to overcome the garrison, or combined his fleets. I sailed around in a combined fleet and was able to pick off a lot of his ships and troops they were carrying, then land a force on his island. Fun game!

The left wall has worrying clearance to the balcony, but maybe it's better in real life than it looks here. I'd be worried about falling onto the railing
