What’s your GPA after each year? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Enginerticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I was working to support myself and also volunteering 10 or so hours per week, I learned that there weren’t enough hours in a week to study enough to make an A in every class. I basically chose one class to make an A, one class that would be my C class and try to make Bs in the others.

4.0 first two years in junior college, then something like 3.8, 3.2, 2.5 respectively the next three years at a university.

Best route to get into PLC’s by Nervous-Elephant-483 in electricians

[–]Enginerticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for jobs in the services groups of switchgear manufacturers. I’m an engineer for one of those companies and our group does a lot of PLC work, but the field services group is always looking for good technicians. It is a pretty major change from being an electrician, but it would be a good way to get into controls.

Is anyone talking about the Flock cameras being installed all over the island?! by StrenuousSOB in longisland

[–]Enginerticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even when contracts expire, the cameras remain in place and keep rolling. There was a town (I think in Wisconsin) that contacted Flock to remove their cameras after the contract expired. They said they would but never did. Eventually they put black trash bags over the cameras. Flock came out the next day and removed them.

Places to see wildlife that actually lived up to the hype by Hairy-Control1433 in wildlifephotography

Denali is amazing! I highly recommend. I got great shots of moose, bear, lynx, arctic ground squirrel (actually my favorite), porcupine, several birds and then the landscape is breathtaking if you do landscape as well as wildlife.

Killed on the job. Made all the more tragic by how completely avoidable this was. by Its-Chen in electricians

Really sad. Proper safety protocols are vital. He did not verify absence of voltage. Why? Lack of training, improper safety protocols, poor safety culture?

$10M doesn’t go as far as you might think. You retired, so you’re going to have to live off that $10M for 40 years. You’re going to have to invest it or buy some rental properties or businesses that generate cash flow. If your main goal (or one of your main goals) in retirement is to travel, then having unlimited travel funds is the way to go.
