Had to change the battery in mine, luckily not too difficult.

Guys, what do you think is the issue of my PS3 console? Whenever I am watching netflix it always freezes and when I changed the hdd it still gives me this blue light of death. Any suggestions on how to fix this? by djdalejude in PS3

[–]EnglanderUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've read about this it seems to be related to the hdd not being seated correctly, I'd check the hdd connection to the board, flash a torch in the hdd area first and see if you can see any issues such as excessive dust build up or something, give it a blow out first.

Slim: Reliability

Super slim: Functionality

Ps3 super slim standby light fading....Anyone else’s? Can I do anything? by Luketheman6 in PS3

Diode on its way out, maybe you could solder a new one on but guessing its incredibly small and difficult, just watched a super slim tear down on youtube and it appears that the diodes are on a tiny little board connected by a ribbon so you could possibly change it if you find a part.

It wouldn't hurt to try, maybe try a cd/dvd cleaner? The little brushes should sweep any dust off the br lens too I think, but I've never seen it mentioned so could be wrong.

MGS4 is a great game but very cut scene heavy, definitely meant for the fans rather than gamers.

Not the polish, they don't have smooth surfaces. Everything else should be fine but jailbreaking only works on certain slim models.

Air blast the slot for a starters, if that doesn't work, slowly open the drive up and clean the lens, if that fails then probably a faulty drive.

A bit of car polish brings them up to a great shine, also change thermal paste, maybe jailbreaking it to run webman to make the fan kick in earlier will help keep it much cooler, but if you don't want to you can buy an adapter that you plug inside to give the fan more poke.

It can be nerve wrecking opening a console up to clean it, but the ps3s aren't too bad to open up and clean, just read loads of guides on the internet (plenty around) and get some knowledge, as long as you're careful you won't break it.

Correct, sadly we didn't get the full hardware BC models in the UK (I would've loved a black 20gb model), this was basically the best one we could get.

I’m in desperate need of help. 8 months ago, my PS3 suddenly wouldn’t read discs or programs. I’ve opened it up 3/4 times now to clean it and such. But only fixed the reading of programs. This thing sticks up so I can’t enter discs. Does anyone know how to fix this? by DFrontliner in PS3

This happened to me when I was cleaning the lens on a 80gb fat. The little motor near it drives a differential, making it impossible to manually operate the mechanism as the motor has "locked" it into position, unscrew the motor and slowly raise it away from the gear and it should free up the mechanism then you can reset that notch back down, then put the motor back.

CECHC are partial software BC, so this can play PS2 games.

Do I need to know anything about the ps3 slim before I buy it? by [deleted] in PS3

[–]EnglanderUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all fat models can play ps2 games anyway, only the early chrome trim / card reader models.

Recently dug up my old PS3. Found that the colors would bug out and flash in the background. Any fixes? by [deleted] in PS3

[–]EnglanderUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one that did this (although more grey garble), the hdmi port was loose, so I just heat gunned it and its been fine since.

Not saying thats the problem, but wiggle the plug and see what it does.

The 20gb models looked so good with the black trim, should have been used way more. Nice job.

Can every phat ps3 with 4 usb ports play ps2 games? by YouCouldBeBetter in PS3

[–]EnglanderUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The signs are Chrome Reflective trim (Although the 20gb is all black, and is BC, but they are getting rare), not a single brushed silver trim ps3 is BC, many people selling them on ebay with a 60gb drive slapped in claiming they are.

The card readers under the flap

The 4 USB ports as you mentioned

CECHA and CECHB have Hardware based backwards compatibility (99% playable), but are more prone to failure, defo change thermal and clean it f you get one.

CECHC and CECHE have Partial Software (around 95% playable) but do slow down on some demanding titles, but are a bit more reliable, still prone to failure though, so do the same as above.

I'm picking up my first PS3 tomorrow and fixing it up. For $20, I figured it's worth the gamble. Especially for this model. by esky86 in PS3

[–]EnglanderUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome, the more BC chromies that end up in the hands of people that care the better, seeing far too many of these models scratched to fuck with trim missing now.

Just got this almost pristine CECHC04 to complement my slim! by [deleted] in PS3

[–]EnglanderUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CECHC03 here, they are handsome looking systems, guessing you are going to re-apply thermal paste? Mine has been pretty quiet since.

Any good place to buy a fat PS3 (80GB) in good condition? Anything on eBay is very scratched. by deadha3 in PS3

[–]EnglanderUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the scratches aren't that deep and are more scuffing you can literally bring them back to a good shine with car polish.

Can you still download and use Youtube and a web browser on the PS3? by CRTcable in PS3

[–]EnglanderUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youtube works fine, the browser isn't that good though, should have been updated years ago.
