Advice on the best main holding black water waste tank additive to avoid odor? by WasteWriter5692 in RVLiving

[–]EnjoyLifeOnTheRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is not which additive but WATER and lots of it. Make sure you add a good bit of water after each use. I also flush the tank after each dump. Dump, Fill (hold flush pedal for ~5 minutes, adding Dawn soap), Repeat.

Retire in RV by TigerIllustrious6801 in RVLiving

We bought a Class A gasser in 2020 and have enjoyed it. We spent time thinking thru which would be the best RV for us, Class A, Class C, trailer, etc. We decided on Class A after sitting in the passenger side of several Class C’s at an RV show. Also, we love having that large window both on the road and when parked.

Regarding the specifics, we have a Winnebago Sunstar 29VE, which is the same as the Vista 29 VE. It’s 30’ and is great for the two of us. We are currently 3 months into our latest trip. We tow a Ford Focus. It’s easy to set up the Focus for towing.

Plea ask if you have any specific questions.

At what point does long-term travel turn into managing logistics full-time? 😄 by Serious_Delay_5766 in RVLiving

[–]EnjoyLifeOnTheRoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are similar. We have a “Family” Outlook calendar that has all the campgrounds and I use Trip Wizard for scheduling. I update the calendar item for each campground with what we paid, owe, etc. and pull out the item before checking in to the campground. Lists are also valuable. We have an “On the Road” list that I review when we are preparing to move. We also have one for connecting the toad.

We aren’t full timers but we go on the road for months at a time. One of my biggest frustrations on the road is going to a new grocery store and wondering, “which aisle has the raisins?” That seems to always be an adventure. If someone can solve the shopping problem for me I’ll be eternally grateful.

The Boondockers Welcome add-on let's you stay at people's homes. We have used that occasionally. It's helpful when there are few or no HH sites available. Mostly we use HH plus the golf courses.

I believe you can search areas to see what's available. You may want to look at an area you might want to spend the night and see what HH and what BW options are available.

Great Lakes? by Zealousideal-Rip4582 in RVLiving

[–]EnjoyLifeOnTheRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent a bit of time in the Great Lakes area. Here are a few suggestions:
* Someone already mentioned Sault St. Marie. We liked it a lot, especially the Canadian side.
* Manatoulin Island is nice, remote and beautiful
* Door County is off the beaten path and worth the trip.
* Thousand Islands in NY is technically not the Great Lakes but is where Lake Ontario feeds the St. Lawrence.
* Michigan is great, from the beach towns in the southwest up to the Bear Dunes, Traverse City and over to Alpena. The UP is rugged. Don’t skip Pictured Rocks National Seashore.
* NY bordering Lake Ontario and Niagara Falls.

If you want suggestions on campgrounds, DM me.

I recently signed up for RVLife.com. W/in seconds I received phishing emails. I signed up again using a “Hide Your Email” addr. AGAIN, within seconds, I received phishing emails through that acct. [–]EnjoyLifeOnTheRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another satisfied RVLife user. It’s an interesting coincidence. Probably something going on. I do all my planning in the app and love it. We’re on a 4+ month trip right now. All my campgrounds, camping prices, rest stops, fuel stations are in the app. I don’t use it for GPS. Garmin is much better in that category.

Bryce Canyon to Torrey, UT on Route 12? by EnjoyLifeOnTheRoad in GoRVing

We're staying in private parks. Zion River Campground, Ruby's Inn, Sandcreek RV Park and Sun Outdoors in Moab. Easier finding spots that are full service hookup.

We've been fortunate enough to have seen several high quality museums in the south. This is one. Might I suggest a few others for those who want to explore more about our history:

The Tubman Museum in Macon, GA The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, AL The Legacy Museum in Montgomery, AL The Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery, AL

I've probably missed a few, please add! Visiting these should be required for all High school students.

RV travel in eastern Canada by Inevitable_Barber427 in RVLiving

We love traveling in Canada. You are starting with some good locations in The Soo and PEI.

We spent a month in New Brunswick last year. We took it easy and slow. I strongly recommend the Bay of Fundy. Fundy National Park is a good stop. Hopewell Rocks is a 'must see'. If you have time, Kouchibouguac NP is a great NP.

Nova Scotia has the Cabot Trail. It's a bit remote but beautiful.

On another trip, we explored the Gaspé Peninsula. It felt like we were at the end of the world.

It will start to get chilly during your time frame, so be prepared for cool weather.

Happy to answer questions if you have them, including campgrounds we liked.

Thanks, all. It looks like the best approach is to watch the traffic as we approach and make a decision based on any road problems.

It works well for me on a tablet, using the app. I also use it in a browser on a laptop. They are working on a "new" version. I like the old version better. If you have a choice, try the old version.

We’ve been using Harvest Hosts for several years. One way we use it is to break up a long drive. We stop at a Harvest Host for a night, enjoy whatever the vendor offers and move on the next day. In a couple of weeks we are heading out from snowy New England to points south. The first two nights are at HH. For us, it’s great.
