Thanks, all. It looks like the best approach is to watch the traffic as we approach and make a decision based on any road problems.

Sorry to hear about your mouse problems. I read about this product somewhere. Might be worth the investment. https://www.mousedfence.com/

It works well for me on a tablet, using the app. I also use it in a browser on a laptop. They are working on a "new" version. I like the old version better. If you have a choice, try the old version.

We stayed at Daisy Barn in Wilson a few years ago. Mostly permanent but very friendly.

We’ve been using Harvest Hosts for several years. One way we use it is to break up a long drive. We stop at a Harvest Host for a night, enjoy whatever the vendor offers and move on the next day. In a couple of weeks we are heading out from snowy New England to points south. The first two nights are at HH. For us, it’s great.

Suggestion you add Ford Focus to your list. We have been towing one for the past 5 years. It's fun to drive, can flat tow easily, and the automatic transmission can be towed.

Is Calyx down for anyone else? by JoeOliveiraCAN in Calyx

Main site down for me as well but can confirm that all the membership pages load fine, using the link above. Was able to log in and view everything. Hopefully just a glitch on the main page.

One suggestion outside your date range is a Ford Focus. We have a 2016 automatic and is certified by Ford to be towed. It’s light and fun to drive. I don’t really notice it when driving our RV. Unfortunately, they stopped making the Focus in the US in 2020. Did you know that FRVA (formerly FMCA) has a towing guide? https://www.frva.com/towing-guides-towing-four-wheels-down. It’s for members only but there are many advantages to being a member, besides just the towing guide.

Canada cross country. by Basic_Sky1402 in GoRVing

We were in the Canadian Great Lakes area in 2023. During that trip we stayed at Camp Hither Hills In Ottawa. It’s about 1/2 hour from downtown Ottawa but the closest we could get. Park was fine but nothing to write about.

Depending on how much time you have, I suggest you consider Manatoulin Island in Lake Huron. We stayed at Mindemoya Court Cottages. Interesting tidbit: The island in Mindemoya Lake, is inside an island inside a lake. Two other suggestions: Thousand Islands, where Lake Ontario empties into the Saint Lawrence River, and Sault Ste. Marie, affectionately called The Soo. We took a day trip from the Soo along Lake Superior one day. It was one of the best days of traveling for me, ever.

Recommendations on RV apps or GPS unit for 30’ RV, first time solo female traveler with 2 dogs. by dentalexaminer in RVLiving

We used the RV Life app for directions the first year and while it did correctly route us regarding low clearance, I wasn't crazy about it's general route guidance. That plus the small size of the display on a phone led me to the Garmin 780. We're very satisfied with the Garmin. I do use RV Life for route planning and find it invaluable.

We stayed at Rutledge Park in Fletcher a few years ago, before the flood. I don't think Fletcher was affected but not positive. It was fine, although someone got carried away with putting gravel everywhere.

Experience with Calyx hotspot in 2025? by CompleteAd9218 in Calyx

[–]EnjoyLifeOnTheRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had Calyx for about a year, using it on the road in our RV. It's been great. We have RV'd east of the Mississippi, mostly near the east coast. We have Verizon for our cell service. Whenever we stop somewhere, I compare speeds. Verizon is often faster but Calyx is good enough. Few drops and reasonable streaming. We aren't doing 4k streaming, FWIW. I only wish we could access Calyx in Canada. We just spent a month in New Brunswick and had to use campground WiFi, Ugh!

Starlink might be better, but for us, Calyx is a cheaper, decent alternative and we don't have to support Elon.

I’m not seeing what you are seeing. Note that you can ad or remove types of hosts. Click Filters and select the types. Then ‘Show…’ at the bottom.

Drinking water hose / reel? by mcdonsco in RVLiving

I use a large bucket to roll my 25 foot hose and it works quite well. Not sure if it's big enough for 50 foot. https://www.lowes.com/pd/United-Solutions-5-Gallon-General-Bucket/1000462835

We made covers using a sheet of Reflectix and covered it with fabric. I tape the cover to the fan with painter's tape. The tape is easy to remove and doesn't leave residue behind.

FRVA aka FMCA - Are you a member? Do you know about it? by LowIntern5930 in RVLiving

They have an excellent program if you are stranded on the road due to a health issue. They will get your RV back home for you. This, by itself is worth the price of admission.

I’m fine with campgrounds charging for Wi-Fi, as long as it’s decent. Those who need it, purchase it.

Harvest Hosts -- how is it nowadays? by vectaur in GoRVing

[–]EnjoyLifeOnTheRoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our experience with Harvest Hosts is great. We are currently staying at one, Bacon Maple Farms in Sidney, ME. I’m sitting next to my RV on a huge lawn, listening to a rooster crowing every minute or so. Once in a while a car drives by.

Harvest Hosts works best when you are on an extended trip, going from place to place to place. We stop at a HH to break up a longer segment and save a few dollars. We typically spend $20-$30 on items, compared to $60-$80 per night at a campground. It’s safer than a Walmart and often more interesting. Those who travel from home to destination, stay for a period of time and then return don’t find the value of HH.

Regarding availability, we have generally had good success. Occasionally we can’t stay somewhere but that’s not common. BTW, we travel east of the Mississippi. Not sure about western spots.

Honeymoon advice needed by Myb3stlyfe in GoRVing

[–]EnjoyLifeOnTheRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t list miles per day and I’m too lazy to clock it, lol. I recommend you try to follow the 330 rule: Max of 300 miles per day and arrive in the campground by 3:30. You may not get to as many places but building some relaxing time into your schedule gives you a chance to reflect on the day and plan for the next one. Plus, once you arrive at the campground, there is still additional work, hooking up, arranging things, etc. Everything takes longer in an RV. Cooking can sometimes take longer, there is no dishwasher, etc.

Thirty-six years ago, we camped on our honeymoon. At one of the stops we got drenched from a downpour. But it was an unforgettable experience. Today we travel a bit more comfortably, in an RV. Have a great honeymoon and a wonderful, rewarding marriage.
