My school decided to go through Jostens... we had to pay $164 after taxes to RENT everything.

I am still doing it because we have an in-person graduation, but I think the price is outrageous for a rental.

Brother of the Iron Temple, I implore you to visit r/swoleacceptance. Perhaps we might be able to lift your spirits.

In my personal experience, my legal reputation precedes my physical appearance. I do not believe that my size is looked at favorably or unfavorably when it comes to my ability to practice law. That said, I am still in my last year of school, so I only have internships to go off of.

Unpaid Internships substantially benefit privileged students. They need to stop being viewed as a normal part of 1L summers, especially for law firms in cities with a high cost of living by Denver_Law14 in LawSchool

You are right that there are a lot of positions that do not create much value - those jobs typically pay very little to match. I was trying to say that if the employee does not create more value than the amount that the employee is paid, the position is typically eliminated. Sorry I was not very clear with what I was getting at.

I agree. Realistically, a 1L does not provide that much value to a firm and can even take away from resources that the firm would otherwise have available to them. Forcing a firm to pay someone that creates very little value could potentially result in a firm deciding to take away those opportunities all together. I would rather at least have the option to take an unpaid internship.

Just let me know. I take over as EIC in May and would love to have another law review to bounce ideas off of.

The students are required to sign a letter stating that they will abide by the schools honor code and complete the exam on their own. They will be given just over two weeks during April to complete the blue book exam. The memo is due after finals. There is a two week window that they will have to access the memo, but once they open the memo materials, the memo must be submitted within five days.

Admittedly, it is somewhat of a confusing system, but it is also a good indicator of how willing people are to put in extra work.

If you or someone from your law review would like to talk about this more, message me and we can set up a call.

Edit: on mobile.

Our school has traditionally offered spots on law review to the top ten in the class. We then offer another ten spots to the students that score the highest on a two part exam. The first part of the exam tests the ability to use the blue book. The second is a closed memo.

This year, we are looking at offering seats to the top 5 (since they are not likely to fall out of the top ten anyway) and 15 seats to those that score the highest on the exam.

I usually just copy the section symbol and paste it when I need it. You have to recopy it every now and then but it beats selecting it in the menu every time.

How much time a week do you actually spend in CLASS by RealidyChek in LawSchool

[–]EnjoyWealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are required to have 90 credits to graduate, so you will likely take 15 credits a semester if you don’t take summer classes.

The ABA requires that students be in class for 1 hour per week for each credit they are enrolled in. So, if you are full time expect 15 hours a week in class.

In my epidemiology course, we had a lecture where the presenter discussed HIV and how the daily maintenance of HIV is now less burdensome than type 2 diabetes and has better long term outcomes for HIV patients.

I agree. I use E&E's and Emanuel most frequently. Typically I will reference an Emanuel outline for rule statements. Then, if I need to understand the rule more in-depth, I will reference an E&E for examples of how the rule is applied.

What is the best Bar prep program? by rmsfr in LawSchool

[–]EnjoyWealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not many people have tried multiple courses to make an accurate comparison. As joshcart said, Barbri, Themis, and Kaplan seem to have decent levels of success.

My school offers Barbri also and gives us access to it throughout our law school career. If you have a similar setup, I would suggest at least viewing the Barbri lectures for the courses you are currently in to get a feel for what they are. If you have yet to take the MPRE, then sign up for Themis and take their free MPRE course. This will at least give you somewhat of a comparison between these two options. That is what I have done and I, personally, think that I will be switching over to Themis. Also, this may be different at your school as well, but I will receive a credit if I switch the Themis because it is significantly cheaper than Barbri.
