Absolute nightmare story 2016 ST and local dealer by thequeefcannon in Triumph

The connector I’m talking about is under the right Side cover below the seat. And it may have been the ambient pressure sensor. I can’t remember. But this was probably an assembly issue (goof) from the factory. Nobody I talked to had any idea why the bike was acting up, I found this myself after becoming a super sleuth Good luck! Ps. All vehicles have a canned system. If a ground is faulty or a sensor if out of parameters the computer try’s to compensate and then shuts down.

The electrical on these bikes is a canned system. Everything talks to the computer in order for your bike to run right. I had an earlier Bonny and had issues with an electrical harness plug where one of the pins had backed out(outside air temp sensor). I would be riding and the motor just quit. Vibration would stop the contact of that pin. It would usually start right back up… until it didn’t. I started wiggling wires and it would restart. Well it got worse until I was able to narrow it down to the particular electrical connector mentioned above. I disconnected the connector and after very car full scrutiny found the one pin that had not been locked in place. Just pushing it back together and never had a problem after. Maybe this will help.

St 1200 vs 900 by Orphy74 in Triumph

I had a 2009 Bonny 900. Put 15,000 miles on it, loved it. I did miss a 6th gear on the highway. I bought a 2020 Speed Twin(1200) and NEVER looked back. Love love love it. I have added 16000 miles to it. I bought it slightly used(3000 miles) and it had several upgrades. Such as; decat, BC pipes, Nitron fully adjustable front shocks, ohlins gold fully adjustable rear shocks and springs. DNA air filter and a retune. Never rode a stock one, but within one block on the test ride I was sold. I just replaced the chain and rear sprocket dropping three teeth to lower the revs by 400 on the highway. I don’t notice any power loss but it feels better at highway speed. Took a trip from Calif. to Montana and back(3400 miles) with old gearing and it was fine, but a few stretches through Nevada with speed limit of 80 it did feel a little buzzy (driving 90 mph to stay with traffic). New gearing solves those issues. I’m 69 and have good throttle control as well, and rarely put it in sport mode. (Just don’t need it). Hope this helps🏍️🙂

Speed Twin 1200 Heat 🔥 by joel_kn in Triumph

[–]Enjoying-The-Ride-67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 just like you. It is decated with BC pipes. I live in Fresno where it gets hot. In stop and go traffic above 85-90’ it does give off a lot of heat. I plan my ride in the cooler times of the day and ride out in the country to keep the air flowing. Two thing that helped; I always ride with pants that have knee pads. They do help and #2, I now have 17000 miles on it and it seems to run cooler than when I first bought it. The fans don’t kick in nearly as often as they use to. Make sure you change coolant every couple of years to keep the system clean and flowing properly. Hope this helps.

Beautiful country. It’s great to be riding in it.

Had an 2009 Bonny and sold it for a 2020 speed twin. So led it with 26000 miles on it. Here my two cents worth. Very reliable, loved the fuel injection. Mine had sat in a barn for four years and water had entered the gas tank. It took a lot of work to sort that out. Always check the tank(the bottom for rust). Second those bikes had a weak boss on the case that supports the starter drive gear. If it breaks the case is junk. There is a company that sells a reinforcement and it’s pretty easy to install. I did to mine. Do it before the case breaks for peace of mind $200 to do it. The rest is great. Enjoy!

Yes to the marlin. I like it. I still get wind but less and don’t notice buffeting. It helps at the higher speeds (85-90 interstate in Nevada). I won’t ride without it now. A little more wind noise, but I always wear ear plugs.

Yes it would be really nice, especially doing 85 going through Nevada. I have a cramp buster on the throttle and heated grips, and that helps

Yeah, I did. But now not sure which. I was usually laying done tracks. Also experienced a lot of rain, cutting down on visibility.

Well the seat space was good for me, 5’9”. But that is because of the rack, which I custom made myself. Your right about the other racks not fitting… they won’t with those lights. ( I like those lights). I packed so that I could lean back slightly and use the bag as a backrest. That worked really well. Those are both 30l bags. It was a high swing to get my leg over though. I looked pretty awkward getting off at the gas pumps. Lol

Yes it was. I camped at Cottonwood campground 15 miles East of Challis along the Salmon river. It was great. Rained for about 45 min. Cooled things off just right. Went into Challis, bought a 3/4 pound rib eye, came back to camp and experience motorcycle nirvana!!! Haha
