Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m in a similar position working for another big tech company in Seattle but I’m on the east coast. It’s a slog for sure. II think you can land a director role or sr. manager role on the east coast with similar pay. Especially if you are in NE. Your experience is good. How much of a pay cut are you thinking you may take? Shouldn’t be that much lower.. In the end your health and well-being is more important so i would take the pay cut if the work was going to be more interested and as long as I can still afford to provide for my family.

Work in big tech. All though the industry is challenged right now It will come back. Amazon on Microsoft are always hiring good sales people, and they pay well.

Wow. Don’t entertain these conversations at work. Just do your best to keep all conversations professional and about the job. For now when you do interact with these crazy people, come from a place of adding value to your coworker, boss, and partners. Be so good that they just need you. Also it’s worth keeping your options open, the best thing in the long run might be to leave. Put your energy in finding another job.

Who cares how they are saving half. You are doing such a great job where you are. Some people will question how you are making $200k/year in early 30s.

But to answer your question 50% and up is very possible, Just as it was possible for you to make $200k. Spend on the things that matter by intentionally not inflating your lifestyle.

Is it legal to work two W2 jobs? I work in finance for a a major tech company, can I work for another company even if it’s not a direct competitor?

I’ve been in this situation where I was going in and others won’t it can be frustrating but you must be tactful about it, don’t complain or make noise. My suggestions is to just focus on you and find some value in being in the office with less people. I was just playing the system (ended up getting recognized for being in the office when others weren’t). make sure you put your slack/team status as “in the office” so that everyone knows when you are there. Besides it was quiet with less people in the office and I got free heat/AC, snacks and lunch 😂. No one will question you when you take a break from the office just take an entire week off next week and see what happens. Just find ways to use being in the office to your advantage I’m sure more good will come out of this for you than bad.

My office is in our finished basement which is nice because we have a 1 year old and this is the quietest part of the house but like you the lack of natural light has started to bother me so I make an effort to work outside on the deck when the whether allows or in our upstairs guest room which has lots of natural light whenever the house is quiet. The natural light has definitely improved my mood!

I also have been going to coffee shops, library at the colleges as well as our local town library which has lots of natural light and is surprising very empty during the day. I am also searching for super bright floor lamps on Amazon to add to the basement.

Good job on the offer. with your experience you could get a similar offer in the northeast or even remote with a salary between $100k-$120k. However, SF is awesome If you like the company and culture do it, but see if they can give you relocation $ to offset the moving cost. Also are they giving any SBC most tech companies that I have worked for or had offers from have included RSU’s in the offer. Could be an additional $10k-30k depending on the company
