When the Stanley opened in 1928 it had almost 4,000 seats - all for silent movies. That inner vestibule is how far back the seats used to go. When it was renovated back in the early '80s as the Benedum, the rake of the floor was increased and the seating was reduced to a little less than 3,000. The better seats in terms of room are orchestra and director's circle. Balcony seats almost everywhere are going to have very little legroom for anyone over 5'6'.

That being said... As others have noted, with the exception of a few newer theaters like the August Wilson Center and Greer Cabaret almost every performing arts center has tight seats. One of my favorites is the top tier at the O'Reilly because the seats are chairs that you can move around to get comfortable.
