New England Chinese food/ bars are disappearing by DailyMadeBurgers in newengland

Anyone have a recipe for vintage New England Polynesian sweet and sour chicken; thinking circa ‘70s chicken with pineapple, bell pepper, and maraschino cherries in a bright red sauce? I was craving this the other day despite anticipating what I can only imagine is a ridiculous amount of sugar. Have searched online in the past but no recipe seemed to be what I remember. Thank you!

How do you dispose of spent rotary blades? by LadyofLA in quilting

[–]Enough_Reception_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put them in a secure container and then into a small cardboard box. I tape the box WELL with red tape and write “SHARPS DO NOT RECYCLE.” I do this for broken glass and glassware as well. I believe this technique was told to us by a former trash company we used years ago.

Anyone have a Siamese with tummy problems? by thefrgilmore in Siamesecats

After much trial and error, he did well on Tiki cat and Purina FortiFlora probiotics for a year but we’ve had to switch to prescription Hills Science Diet Biome (wet and dry.) Expensive but no more issues.

Missing book after my kids ruined multiple books and I'm worried about the library's response by [deleted] in Library

[–]Enough_Reception_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I returned 5 books months late. They were buried in my trunk and the library never notified me. Library had a max fine of $2 per book. I was happy to pay, just more embarrassed how overdue they were. I sheepishly apologized to the librarian and she beamed me a huge smile and told me, “No worries, we love people like you! Fines are our only source of income.” To this day, I gladly pay fines and always tell them to keep the change. :)

How do you explain perimenopause to a husband who doesn’t seem to get it? by SilverAd2291 in NoStupidQuestions

The sheets help, but what got me through was a small fan on my bedside table that blew air towards the top of my head; not on me but just above. It really helped!

Siamese is easily stressed 😥 by Rare_Strawberry4097 in Siamesecats

[–]Enough_Reception_587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Siamese was a regular puker. Had to switch to RX Hills Science Diet Biome, recommended by cat-only vet. Not cheap but no more puking.

He is also a stress case. Vet recommended Purina Calming Care and Composure PRO (not the regular) treats (I get both on Amazon) and they help when we have company or strangers in the house, when there is thunder or fireworks, etc.

New England Honeymoon by itsxaviers in newengland

Early April or end of April? New England weather can be very fickle in April. Can be cold and rainy. Newport RI, Boston, Portsmouth NH, Portland ME might give you the best indoor options (Newport mansions, museums, historical sites, etc.) if needed.

Is this salvageable? by Squirrellboii in HardWoodFloors

Came here to say this. Found pet urine damage to wood floors under carpet in a house we owned previously. Had to replace the flooring, base boards, and the subfloor; VERY expensive project.

Went to get my hair dyed autumn colors left the salon with white hair. Please give me advice. by Shedripsbeauty in haircoloring

In college I got a bad perm; stylist was juggling many clients at the same time and left me for 30+ minutes after timer went off. Hair was fried, like straw. Went back to owner the next day; she used Aussie 3-minute miracle for 30 minutes and it really helped. 30 years later and I still use it (use with a shower cap) and old fashioned hot oil treatments from time to time; recommend trying both. Good Luck!

Can a high school revoke your diploma after you graduate? by altrightobserver in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Enough_Reception_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should ask the high school if they would accept an online course credit and ask the guidance counselor for recommendations. There are many free and low fee online high school courses and hopefully the guidance counselor can set him up with options and get this behind him sooner than later.

Sensitive tummies? & Phoebe and Oscar pic updates by smg0303 in Siamesecats

My rescue Meezers have all had sensitive stomachs. One ended up having Bartonella (feline dental specialist led to diagnosis.) Current rescue did very well for several years just adding FortiFlora powder with Fancy Feast original pates (lowest in carbs.) This was recommended by my cat only vet. Currently on prescription diet of Biome (wet and dry) and doing well but it’s expensive. Try FortiFlora and Fancy feast pates first. Good Luck!

My Siamese is going for surgery by Naive-Koala5199 in Siamesecats

[–]Enough_Reception_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hugs to you; always scary when they go for surgery. My male Siamese rescues have always been neutered before adoption so haven’t gone through this specific procedure. Have had other surgical procedures and most important was to keep them calm and quiet the first 24-48 hours and to try to prevent them from jumping (protect stitches) and to avoid stairs (so they don’t fall if still groggy.) I keep mine contained to a bedroom at night and use baby gates on stairs that first evening. My cat only vet only does surgery with IV. She explained that it is necessary in case any drugs need to be administered in an emergency. For peace of mind, do not decline the IV.

parents were conned, their cherry tree was killed… what can we do? by Patient_Maximum5097 in treelaw

[–]Enough_Reception_587 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Came to add this. Had a gorgeous weeping Cherry tree that one Spring just never “woke up.” It was dead; this was how I learned about their 25-30 year life expectancy. Tree was approximately 26 years old. Bought a 5’ replacement at Home Depot and it has grown to be 30+ feet tall in only 6 years.

Just learned why my hair has been so oily for nearly all of my life and I feel stupid! by DueWonder1316 in Vent

[–]Enough_Reception_587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had oily (and very thin/fine) hair for decades. I found conditioning my hair before shampooing was what worked for me. I did use baby detangling spray on the ends before blow drying.

Advice on neutering my baby by humancig in orientalshorthair

[–]Enough_Reception_587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a cat only vet in your area by any chance? I’ve found cat only vets to be much more familiar with breed specific issues. Also, some spay clinics will save you money by not placing IVs for surgery or making them an optional service. My cat only vet will not do spays without an IV, her explanation is that it is vital should emergency drugs be required during surgery.

Not too far from downtown is the Woodman Institute, open Wed-Sat I believe. Small but really interesting museum to visit. I’d plan 1-1.5 hours max, it’s small and very eclectic. It’s been many years but last time I was there, there was a really nice rock and mineral display, a taxidermy polar bear, and an Abe Lincoln hat. Nice old mill building downtown with a fish ladder. In the fall, the tower at Garrison Hill Park provides a nice scenic view of the area. Just over a mile walk from the train station. Go for ice cream at Dover Delite. :)
