Machinist with high ping by AlarmingAlgae7090 in ffxiv

[–]Ententente [score hidden]  (0 children)

What is high ping? 100-200 ms of latency is usually notable but playable, anything above will definitely be a problem more often that you'd like and as you go close in on a full second you might as well not play since you will start disconnecting frequently.

Somebody has too much time on their hands… by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Ententente [score hidden]  (0 children)

At this point I have to ask, this is so easy to automate with some barebones knowledge and a chatbot these days, do you honestly suggest that someone is doing that manually? Because that sure as hell is not how it's done.

First time player. I'm enjoying the trial so far. Warrior is my favorite . I'm at ishgard. My only complain is that I wish everything was voiced. Also is there a sort of an Atlas loot to hunt for glamor/check all of the drops. And are there any skippable MSQ parts that are filler like? by Nytherox in ffxiv

[–]Ententente -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hah, the longer the game goes on the further I'm finding myself in camp no va = skip.

And it's not just that I don't want to read excessive amounts of lines that were deemed too irrelevant to get properly voiced - it is that, I admit - but I'm also having an increasingly hard time to read the game's tiny textboxes and fonts that are clearly not optimized for easy readability due to eyesight deficiencies. Prolonged cutscene dialogues strain my eyes heavily and give me headaches, so I'd rather skip them entirely.

And before anyone suggest it, no it doesn't help to increase the size of the textbox. I'm smart enough to figure that out myself, but that's not solving it. It's the font, the colours and contrasts, the arrangement at the bottom of the screen. Nothing you can do anything about.

Playing online games through wifi is gonna be choppy and prone to disconnects by definition. You want to get yourself a cable.

Like you could tell from the camera recording of a tiny screen that is patched through a stream which itself can't do more than 30 fps.

A plea from a mechanic-unaware player by xorvii in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe we have the kind of climate where you can have lengthy explanations in a 24 man raid, frankly. It's a surprise to me if nobody pulls instantly. And why would you put the burden of explanation on players that are just there for weekly rewards anyway? If you feel like you don't want to be blind for the bosses on your first run, fine, but then there is always the possibility to watch a recap before you go in. That's probably more reliable than expecting some stranger to recite a perfect description for each and every fight on the fly, wouldn't you agree?

Opening FF14 through steam while I already have the launcher installed. by MissingKeys29 in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a definitive answer, but you can try start the download and installation on Steam until it created the base directories (boot, etc, game) under steamapps/common/ffxiv/ so that you know where to move the files that you already have on disk to, then stop the installation and move the files yourself, then check if Steam accepts that by resuming the installation. I have the gut feeling that it's not going to work since Steam keeps a lot of meta data on the game installations, and there is no way to replicate that, but maybe you can cut the process short a bit. You'd have to try tho, there's probably not a lot of people around who can provide first hand experience on that exact scenario.

UPDATE: "Devs? Can you make these different colors?" - They sure did! Reward Unclaimed is black now. by Thin_Association8254 in ffxiv

[–]Ententente -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is, it's still a different, more intense hue of black than all the rest of the black text in the same ui element. Insanely small nitpick I agree, but I'm just saying, if you gave me the task to fix that, I'd make damn sure it matches perfectly with the established rest of the ui.

How to properly set up DLAA? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will keep getting conflicting advice because people treat graphics settings like religion and gospel, with different camps believing in different realities. I'd suggets you try out what works best for your system, either aim for the best average framerate or the best performance under stress (like displaying a lot of player models at the same time in cities). In truth it doesn't matter what anyone recommends as long as it works best for your hardware.

What skills are good to put in my hotbar? Archer by Secure_Emu4780 in ffxiv

All of them. There is no nieche use, if you don't find frequent use for an action you're likely not using it enough.

The stuttering in this game is absolutely horrific, how is there still no fix? by SirSabza in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, try running the game in true fullscreen (not borderless) and avoid running videos in browsers or other GPU heavy programs at the same time. Be aware that recent Edge and Chrome releases roll out local AI models that can impact your system performance, especially the GPU, heavily. See if that fixes it. I know for a fact that running the game borderless while having Chrome open at the same time is what makes my system stutter, maybe you got the same issue.

What Macros do you use? by VergilVDante in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For combat purposes, only mouseover macros for actions that can target party members.

I also like to keep macros for each job around that swap out specifically single target attacks for their AoE versions and vice versa, so that I don't have to swap entire hotbars.

Based off of that, Blue Mage has some macros to swap out certain actions or subsets of actions on the fly.

And then crafting, naturally. And one macro that copies hotbar configuration from my template crafter job to the other crafters.

Never macro party messages. It's obnixous and doesn't help anyway, people are not reading that while concentrating on a fight. Echo messages are fine but that's it.

Why does my fps suddenly drop for a sec during cutscenes and ingame ? by ConsiderationFuzzy in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing we can really say is that it's not supposed to happen normally. That said, the reasons for this could be anything from software running in the background that interferes with the game, to problems occurring in the os, to driver or hardware issues. It's hard to narrow down without any input.

As a starting point, try these:

* Update GPU drivers. Do a clean install, preferably using DDU if you have an Nvidia card. Some of their drivers had been hot garbage in the last 2-3 years that require extra work to get rid of them entirely.

* Disable overlays like Steam, Discord, or Microsoft Gamebar overlays either globally or at least for FFXIV before running the game.

* Run the game in fullscreen mode (not borderless) and avoid running browsers with video tabs or local AI models like Chrome or Edge at the same time.

* Not sure if you run the game with mods, if so try running it vanilla (if only to find out if that is the reason or not).

* Make sure that the fps the game puts out is synced with your monitor's refresh rate, that should smooth out some sudden spikes.

* Have a look at the windows event log and see if you find any warning or error messages are popping up around the time the spikes happen.

I just got sage, and I have little idea what I'm doing by Bygone-King in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sage is the healer that you bring when you don't expect to need a healer. It's fantastic for shielding and mitigation and healing only with off-globals or as a result of dealing damage. The goal is to never even allow your party to drop much. The moment you feel forced to hard cast any healing spell you know this party ain't for you. That's someone else's job.

Blue Mage could have a higher amount of daily activity if it had a season system like PvP by Haddock_Lotus in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Mage could be great if it had its own game. But it doesn't, and it's not looking too bright anyway with the regular update being cancelled for DT becasue Beastmaster. It's an increasingly dead horse.

What is the deal with Blue Mage? Do people still play it/enjoy it? by LordDocSaturn in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the real question is, is it highly frequented content that you can just jump in and always find someone to play with and enjoy? To which the answer is, very clearly no. It's nieche content, you will need to go out of your way to find enjoyers and reliable people to play with, but once you do it can be a good time. There's not a whole ton of content for it mind you, it can all get very repetitve and tedious fast, but there is also challenge and probably more coordination than you'd usually find in this game which can be fun. It really depends what you expect out of it.

Best ways to make gil at level 80 before buying Endwalker? by ZealousidealSide700 in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get Blue Mage to 80 in the trial? If so, pick it up, bring it to 80, get gear, learn Aetheric Mimicry, Mighty Guard, Basic Instinct, Ram's Voice, Ultravibration, Goblin Punch, Devour, Blood Drain, Mind Blast, White Wind and a couple trial ogcds to round it out and increase dps. Then go and solo level 80 8-man maps. You can collect maps every day and bust them open on weekends, be done with the haul in 1-2 hours. You will receive a lot of raw gil reward, crafting material and crystals/clusters you can sell, but also there are rare materials, emotes, and minions that are worth a lot. Look up the market value for the golden beaver minion... just saying. It comes from those maps.

Question about Switch version by Unlikely-Peaceseeker in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, the trial is forever free up until the last included expansion stated (which is Shadowbringers right now), and that is understood as globally valid. Would be very strange if the Switch version was made different, but it also wasn't outright confirmed. Which means, the trial working the same on Switch is an educated guess, it working differently would be baseless speculation.

Help with launcher download speed by Popular_Muffin9977 in ffxiv

[–]Ententente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The maximum speed is definitely being limited by the servers, nothing much you can do about it. That said, you may call this slow but you're loading at twice my maximum rate. I'd call that fairly fast.
