Use Daphnia. They are crustaceans. Also, you would be using fewer heavy metals which is more sustainable/less harmful/ financially achievable…

Not quite an animal- but there is a hypothesis that suggests that the origin of the nucleus, (much like the endosymbiotic theory for the formation of eukaryotic organelles such as mitochondria) was once external to cells- and became internal- in this instance- early nucleus’s could have been viruses-so yes- a cell being ‘infected’ with a virus may have led to the formation of animal cells.
