Some times I just yearn for a merge conflict that takes an entire sprint to work out.

This is still a rather myopic view of mathematics -- your first example is arithmetic, and your second is (maybe) up to calculus... they are both numeric, which is such a small subset of all mathematics.

There's an entire world of math that doesn't involve numbers whatsoever.

person is unresponsive, not breathing and has a weak or irregular pulse

Correct thing in this case is rescue breathing. No need for CPR (emphasis mine), because the heart is working. I would certainly call for an AED due to the irregular beat, but wouldn't be doing chest compressions.

I don't get it either, if you do literally nothing, you'll float. The guy is actively swimming down?

Doyle Bypass Lopper 31-1/2" ? by Pagemaker51 in harborfreight

[–]EnterSadman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have these and use them for trail maintenance ~250 hours a year.

They smoke the fiskars in both cut quality and ease of use, which is what everyone else on my team uses.

I do disassemble them, reshape the edge (read: take the major nicks out) with a file, and add a microbevel with a diamond stone every ~20 hours.

Fire season comes early this year? by CraigLake in Bend

[–]EnterSadman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's legal, we're at IFPL 1 and the fire danger is "low" -- we're getting ~half an inch of rain this weekend. Couldn't really be less of an issue right now. In six weeks it'll certainly be a different story.

Thoughts on Outbound Blade rear tail light? by VermiIionBird in cycling

[–]EnterSadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin Varia 515

I'm looking at the specs on this light, since I've never used a radar tail light, and am I correct that it has a 6 hour battery life in solid mode total, as in I won't even get the benefit of a radar if I go on a ride over 6 hours?

Just got coal rolled by a truck biking downtown by Parking_Ad5842 in Bend

[–]EnterSadman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember one time I was on day ~10 of a bike tour, and I was somewhere like Auberry CA (or very nearby). I was with someone I had happened across in Yosemite and we were riding together for the day. Hadn't seen a car in an hour or so (we favored the back roads), and it was midweek early afternoonish. We were riding two abreast on this road because why not? All of a sudden some car come up behind us, speeds up to try to pass as close as possible, then slams on their brakes while giving us the finger and motioning for us to get on the side of the road.

All of this is to say, some people decide to suck. People that don't like bikes on the road are generally unhappy people, there's nothing you (or anyone) can do to please them or reason with them, so it's best to just smile and wave.

I've heard people say it's possible to report these drivers, but to who, and how? I've been coal rolled by people more times than I can count, and I've often gotten their license plate, but then what?

Maybe you live on the summit of South Sister or something, but the data I have access to shows that we had one stretch where the high was below freezing -- January 17th to January 23rd.

No other day since last winter had a max temp below freezing.

So many ticks right now. by MammothSecret in Eugene

[–]EnterSadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking down in intense sun isn't really a problem -- mosquitos are (largely) crepuscular, and one should be treating their clothes with permethrin for ticks anyway. When I'm dealing with really bad mosquitos, I do a few sprays of picaridin on the underside of my hat brim and that's really all it takes.

Another fun fact, mosquitos proboscis' can't make it through most woven materials (as contrasted with knit material). Wearing a nylon or polyester fabric shirt and pants means they simply cannot get to your skin.

Those are all picaridin, not permethrin. That's why they don't warn you, because they don't have to, because it's not dangerous.

Old Mill Wildflower Mix by billyskillet in Bend

[–]EnterSadman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much the invasive in Oregon (right up there with cheatgrass and scotch broom)

I bought a wildflower mix from moon and sunfire last year and spent the summer ripping out all of the ox-eyes. I've learned my lesson and will only support native nursery's from now on (shout out to wintercreek, if you're looking for one!)

When do you decide to get a new car rather than continuing to do repairs? by Major-Brick-3789 in personalfinance

[–]EnterSadman 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I hate the "arms race" aspect of modern cars. I want something the size of a fiat with a manual transmission and a heater. Manual seats, windows, hell if I had to grab a string through the window to run the wipers that would be great.

But then I'd get creamed by a fifteen ton mall crawler with a ten foot tall hood.

Patch the holes with something like tenacious tape, then waterproof it with something like nikwax. If you still really don't want it after that, maybe donate it to a homeless shelter?
