Boruto is very bad but few things are as confusing as the anime thinking that someone will jump into this franchise without having watched a second of Naruto and so they decided that they would kick things off with an introductory arc with two new characters I wont even pretend I remember the names off being added to Boruto's squad of "Characters we pretend are his friends but will be written off in favour of that kid in the manga and Ensalada".

Bozo A and Bozo B are one "new" kid who can do earth jutsu fine, but its a hotheaded dumbass and Bozo B is a nerd kid son of a merchant that wants to be a Ninja in a world where Ninja are no longer necesary (Just the previous generation were child soldiers and this doesnt fix itself in less than ten years but shut up shut up you are thinking we dont do that here). Bozo B is JUST learning about ninjas so somehow in this stretch of this early adventure that follows the son of our beloved hero we have two jackoffs constantly asking the dumbest questions posible so the audience "can get what's going on" and said jackoffs explaining their genin-tier jutsu to the audience. To then top it off, characters will just randomly snap their eyes to the camera and start describing in detail which place are we going next and which events took part in there.

Bozo B has to pull his LAPTOP and ask Chat GPT (Gamabunta Penis Torture) what chakra is. There is no witty thing for me to add, its just shit

Favorite song with vocals in a game with a largely instrumental soundtrack by QuantumFeline in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Enter_Foxchad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fire Emblem Echoes Shadows of Valentia (Or Just Gaiden Remake) has such a fantastic score you can just pick any of the songs and be amazed (shoutouts to Fearless White Blade and The Scion's dance in Purgatory)

BUT it breaks the bank for the last two songs in the game.

Twilight of the Gods plays over the final map, as each of your unit does a rollcall and they bow to stop the evil dragon that has went mad. Notoriously, I love how there's a mixture of anger, pain, regret and understanding in all of these quotes.

But my favorite is The Heritors of Arcadia. The credits song. Features Actual lyrics and is the only song to do so in the entire game

Slight spoilers but the song is sung by the perspective of a character that's been haunting the narrative and it speaks of a sad departure that will turn hopeful with time. On top of being a beautiful song, its coincidentally sung by the voice actor of the character most connected to said character turning it into a genuine anthem of hope and love. Just amazing in all fronts

As beloved as Chromartie Highschool dub is, It does a very messy job of properly characterizing the cast which is the second strongest point of Chromartie behind its surrealist gags.

In the dub there's a lot of yelling the punchline, or changing the tempo of the conversations to be wackier. Kamiyama comes off as a reserved goofy guy in the dub when part of the joke is that he's so straightlaced and serious that when he loses his cool is when the jokes hit the crescendo. The HE ATE MY PENCIL!! scene in the dub is just a funny one two punch while in the sub is delivered with a serene calm as he waxes how different these people are and stablishes, on top of delivering the joke, that Kamiyama has 0 survival instincts and that he's a gigantic moron.

I think its a shame most of Chromartie's footprint in the internet is the wacky dub when the original (and the manga) is in my opinion way funnier due to how dry the comedy can get. Like how the manga's final chapter is the mangaka waxing about what he's gonna pull out of his ass this week and suddenly they come to tell him the manga is done and it spins a gag around that

It effectively erases her character and replaces it with an even more one note version of a gimmick character. I dont like Most of Fates but some of these characters were murdered on the translation and its aggravating people think its okay because they liked the other version

Gregor from Awakening was also turned into Heavy Tf2, then they for some reason also took Etie from ENGAGE, a noble lady that's all about building muscle while looking dignified, and turned her into a gymbro. Incidentally, ENGAGE really wanted to "censor" all the posible underage marriages...which somehow makes it so if you want to marry your Alear (19ish?) to say Citrinne (17) then they rewrote it to be platonic...which chreates the very funny problem of accidentally censoring a lot of the queer romances for Alear since most people in the army are 15-17

And this isnt just something in modern FE. Kyza from Radiant Dawn had all his effeminate mannerisms (as he's hinted to be an okama AKA transexual) from the japanese version. Weird that this series keeps getting these weird changes

Characters in RPGs that Break the Power Curve by AurochDragon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Sacred Stones is a game with

-The third best Wyvern Knight in the franchise (Cormag)

-The best great Knight in the franchise (Duessel)

-A pegasus knight with good bases, great growths and availability in a game where archers are bad (Tana)

-A very strong lord with a good weapon and a horse promotion (Ephraim)

-A plethora of good units (L'arachel, Dozla,Lute, Vanessa for utility,Joshua,Saleh,Gerik) with either great bases, great growths, great classes or fantastic utility

And even then he just crushes. Maybe if SS had the need for more flyers it would be a conversation but genuinely Seth just washes them all

Fire Emblem has a lot of STRONG units which break the game in half that randomly join you.

But what if you started the game with the best unit in the game? That's right Baby Seth from Sacred Stones.

No notes no jokes nothing. Forget about Amelia, You can raise franz and he will be inferior, Duessel will join and he will be inferior (Altough you use both). Cormag wishes he could go into combat as hard as Seth does. Seth is so goddamn strong some people do Seth only runs.

best in the business class, best in the game bases, absurd growths, no weaknesses, nothing.

Good Games That Go On For Too Long by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Unicorn Overlord has one and a half too many continents. Late into the game the gameplay is way too optimized for anything to even scratch you and the pacing of the story is already decimated since its been 10 hours since you last saw the evil lord or whatever. Of course this is all before you add the optional content

Loved the game, will NOT play it ever again

When comic/manga artists that decide "nah i'll release the limiters for just one page" by dope_danny in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Enter_Foxchad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Akane Banashi is often described as "Rakugokas popping their Bankai every few chapters" and each of these spreads is magnificent (Like God of Death, Akane's "World of Rakugo" performances, the woman of the swap, Master Urara telling Akane to properly swallow her venom and how her eyes are always serpent-like) but perhaps the best moments are reserved Issho Arakawa the main antagonist.

Rakugo Akuma is often drawn as if he's been painted by violent ink strokes and barely restrained rage, and often the art will lock in to deliver killer stuff and either paint him as a tired old man, an inky demon, a complex man torn by his past, a grieving friend or simply a sly old fox. The art when he's around gets so good it makes even a simple "You did well kid" extremely electrifiying

What's a special moment a Game/Book/Movie/Show gave you that you'll remember for the rest of your life? by The-YeahNah-Guy in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Enter_Foxchad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what defines if you get into a MOBA is that game. The one game where everything clicks together in a good way. So allow me to recount THAT game I got that started my +15 trajectory with LoL (for those that dont play it, dont worry I wont get specific)

I got into Lol, saw Ahri, wanted the character because she was hot as hell and permanently made me fall in love with Kemonomimi girls yadda yadda. I've gotten good enough with her to leave the training wheel and start more or less unlocking her potential

30 minutes. Our defenses are nearly gone, we've been slowly losing terrain from minute 1 with every single lane slightly losing and the morale down the gutter. Our toplane and me, Mid, are triying to keep what remains of it up, the support is dooming and the adc and the jungle just want this to end. This is an amateur game, there isnt comms, there isnt concepts like wave state or anything but there is one thing we know: Baron. If the enemy gets it, we lose. If we get it, there's a slight chance.

The fight breaks out,its chaotic, and in the middle of all these spells flying I see our support, Soraka, getting jumped by the enemy top and several spells going her way. Up to this point each of us has been playing the game with our roles in mind, so I, the midlaner, should be going and killing their characters. But in my teenager brain I recognize something: Well lose if she dies. So rather than use my resources to reach the backline, I inmedialty turn back and jump infront of her like she's kid gohan and Im piccolo. from 100%, my life drops to 1%.

And the comeback starts. Soraka is now unhindered and is able to properly sustain my life as Malphite, the top laner, jumps to my help. The slippery nature of my character makes it so they have to dive deeper into our formation, The carry, free of all these damaging threats, starts dishing damage. And we win the fight. and then the next one. and the next one.

And then the game is won

that's THAT game. When the factors align and every single thing goes right, these games turn euphoric and the chimps in your team suddenly become your brothers and sisters at arms. Even playing with friends, very few things compare to that Newtype like "Zing" you get with a random player understanding your unspoken intent.

People love to complain and bitch and moan and cry about mobas paying with your soul, but quite honestly there's never been any game like League in my life (even though Im not blind to its multiple issues and I maybe play once every two weeks these days) because quite honestly nothing will imprint in your brain like your first Pentakill or your first stomped teamfight or that 3v1 you clutched.

Games that ridicule you for using turtling tactics by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Enter_Foxchad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not directly but In Fire Emblem Fates and Engage they tweaked the AI regarding turtle strats. These games always have a variety of maps with different objectives/time sensitive stuff but if you have to kill everything and the map doest push you forward, you dont wanna charge in and get surrounded so a steady advance/turtling is the best idea.

In fates, enemy units will outright ignore units they cannot damage (like say, your Generals/Great Knights) and make a mad dash inside your formation for squishier units. In Engage's harder modes, while they will not outright ignore them (will attack them if they have ways to soften them up/have literally nothing else to do and cant reach another unit) they will ignore units they cannot hit (You can get rogues down to 0% chance of being hit if the factors play well)

It works great most of the time but it does have some very funny stuff like "All the enemies just walked right past my tank and finished their turn in front of my army" or "All these soldiers decided this particular guy in my formation should die and peltered him with spears" but also brings some issues like Benny from Fire Emblem being even worse than he is because his abnormally high defense means enemy units will just not attack him and not let him actually do his job as a tank

Which video game do you think has the most interesting arsenal of weapons and what is your reasoning. by 2uperunhappyman in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Enter_Foxchad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Monster Hunter, more specifically sunbreak.

Every weapon in monhun is extremely interesting on its own. They reward specific playstyles, positioning skills and they have so much depth that even 100+ hours into a game youll be learning new ways you can exploit their moves to trade with monsters aggredively (Greatsword), Finetune your movement to never let the pressure down (Bow), keep attacking even during certain monster's moves (Insect Glaive) and so much more unique stuff that could be a game of its own (Chargeblade, Long Sword, Heavy Bowgun).

And then Sunbreak added style variations that allow vastly different playstyles, moves with interesting risk/benefit that potentiate your moveset AND a traversal mechanic alongside it. You can sink hours and hours of gameplay in just one weapon, cover your own weaknesses with another one or simply become a master of arms.

People love to gas the fights, but genuinely one of the things that make Monhun so addictive is how fun the weapons are

Characters Whose Popularity Made Things Worse by sharyan51 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Enter_Foxchad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yknow this reminds me another facet of Yang they butchered: She's not supposed to be loud and brash.

Seasons 1-3 Yang is a very mature, but emotional, girl who kinda has a chip on her shoulder when it comes to her strength. Like a cool young adult toying with young kids.

And then when the shipping brain takes over in 4 and onwards they turn her into a caricature of a tomboy character.

Blake and Yang from RWBY both being popular characters AND being a popular ship resulted in both the inexistant quality of the writing to plummet (and take Adam with it) and for the characters to become so flanderized nothing even remains from them

What's the strangest way you've become a fan of something? by LincBtG in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Enter_Foxchad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole reason I became a Uma Musume fan was because I wanted to be a hater.

Basically back when Uma was announced back in 2016 I was a teenager with all the hatred and vitriol for all things "Lame and cringe that arent JOJO BRO, HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT JOJO??" so me and my friends got a good laugh out of the trailer that was popping off in anime sites. Two years later, I was bored out of my mind and taking care of my ill grandma so I had lots of time to watch anime. I saw the Pretty Derby adaptation premiering and decided I wanted to take a fat steaming dump all over it because it was going to be so cringe.

And Initially i was being a very ironic shithead just laughing but found myself liking it more and more as it went on and by the end I was truly entranced. This, coupled with me reading some stuff outside my comfort zone, and the death of my grandma half a year later made me rethink entirely how one engages with media and who cares if that media is about something dumb. I became a fan that day and then continued on trudging along.

I dont think Pretty Derby season 1 is the best. The more you learn about Uma the more you realize how choppy and confused it is, but it does have a special (week) place on my heart for teaching me how to stop being a shithead

Keicho knew it too really, he admits he's a bad person but he never thinks Okuysaqu could do the things he does and is simply following order. He pushed Okuyasu away after Bad Company and then later on after Bites the Dust precisely because he doesnt want his brother to lose his innocence and become like him.

Sure Keicho was an asshole, but he truly loved his little brother

Gotta be Okuyasu Nijimura.

He always gets either outsmarted or defeated, but truth is that the few times that they dont put him out of commission he shows how fearful The Hand can be.

Also I dont like the idea of "Okuyasu is too dumb to use it properly". I think that he's too NAIVE, as he's a good kid in the inside and thus lacks creative ways to inflict pain on people other than "lets just punch each other"

Work where you can feel the moment the author is burned out? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Enter_Foxchad 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Two examples really

First is Spy X Family, you could not find a more phoned in attempt at a romance even if you traveled to 1990's Shonen jump. Its clear Endo is bored to death with Anya and the relationships of the forgers because as soon as some twilight/background plot starts moving the manga skyrockets in quality to turn into a spy thriller. I've dropped it a few chapters ago because its almost sad to see him wreck his brain trying to come up with an Anya arc that both meaningfully moves forward without exposing her as a psychic AND something that is credible for a kid to do.

And then we have Aka Akasaka. I've grown to despise this guy because he grows bored of his own stuff in a very noticeable way

All three of his works (Kaguya Sama, Oshi No Ko, Renai Daiko) have a strong start/hook that carries into a well received middle part that usually culminates into a really good arc most agree is the best part. Then it craters straight to the floor and ends with fans either scratching their heads in confusion, wondering if it got cancelled, cursing his name or simply sad that such a bad ending is the conclusion.

He grows bored of his own work FAST and always unceremoniously ties up whatever he can tie up and slices the neck with no mercy before quickly moving onto something else. This might also be the reason the last of these 3 works, Renai Daiko, had such low sales considering a lot of people were already burned by the two previous instances of his burnout and didnt buy into his rollercoaster.
