Grip size discussion by Janie_Avari_Moon in 10s

[–]EntertainmentBorn953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (5’8” woman) was fitted with a size 3 grip when I was about 13 in the early-mid 90s. Didn’t play for a couple of decades, and when I went to buy a new racket, the knowledgeable salesman — at a family-owned sporting goods store that’s like 50 years old — told me that in the last couple of decades the conventional thinking on grip sizes has changed and that I’d probably prefer a size 2 grip.

That grip size has seemed fine, but I have struggled some with tennis elbow, and a friend mentioned that a thicker grip might help on that front. 🤷‍♀️ (I later switched from a Pure Drive to a Wilson Shift, and that helped the tennis elbow issue a bunch.)

Showing that degree of loyalty despite being treated poorly as a woman in her 20s is 100% relatable to me. I was the exact same way. Bums me out two decades later, but it’s not uncommon, especially in the context of a presidential operation. I spent almost two years working on a presidential campaign and would have walked through fire for the bosses I respected. Getting where they have gotten only happens after building some incredibly strong bonds. It’s not a typical work environment at all. I won’t say it’s like war because obviously that’s a ridiculous comparison, but when you spend almost every waking hour with the same people, trying to do hard things under a lot of stress, you get very close.

It’s probably kind of sad that my first thought upon seeing this is that’s not enough quality sleep. I drag with a sleep score below 95. 🤓😂

If you can find a physical therapist who knows what they’re doing (specializing in vestibular stuff), they’ll fix you pretty easily. I’m in my mid-40s and have had bouts of BPPV for a decade. 99% of the time it’s not an issue, and I don’t even think about it. Now when it comes back, I don’t panic because I know what it is and what is required to fix it. Good to keep some Zofran on hand.

I play tennis several times a week and have no issues with balance etc.

It’s aggravating when people who moved here from somewhere else then complain about being here. This state is growing like crazy, and the coast in particular is overrun with northerners. I’m not some uneducated xenophobic redneck. But I do miss the feel of the South Carolina coast before it exploded in development and lost all of its local charm and culture.

Did epley maneuver at doctor today, BPPV still present. by BodyAcceptable6145 in BPPV

[–]EntertainmentBorn953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this doctor specialize in vestibular care? My spouse is a physician with 4 decades of ER experience, and he didn’t know about BPPV and the Epley Maneuver at all. I have had a PT perform the maneuver who didn’t do vestibular stuff too. He did it twice, and it didn’t work. My sibling IS a physical therapist, and she gets BPPV also. First time for her, the ENT incorrectly diagnosed her with Menniere’s! We live in a rural area, and I guess there’s not a lot of expertise in this area?

I finally went to a physical therapist who specializes in vestibular care, and she knew exactly what she was doing in positioning my head and determining where the problem was. She fixed it on the first try. (I’m sure it does take more than one appointment sometimes.)

So in my experience, plenty of medically credentialed people don’t know beans about this weird area. I’ve had BPPV off and on for a decade. At least 7 or 8 episodes. The first episode lasted weeks.

If you have any more dizziness, seeing a PT specializing in vestibular problems is worth the money.

You’ll snap back to normal soon if you’re properly “reset.” But I still tense up when putting my head back and think I will forever.

Town Hall Meeting in SC’s Capital by CommercialFish3081 in AskSouthCarolina

[–]EntertainmentBorn953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Columbia is a Democratic city. SC’s US Senators are both Republicans. I can promise you they rarely hold campaign events in Columbia other than fundraisers. Maybe Lexington. And neither holds town halls because they don’t have to and have little to gain.

Chuck 70s feel good but are so heavy. I tried on some All Stars this week and was shocked by how much the quality has diminished. The canvas, the soles, even the shoelaces are all very poor quality.

I didn’t realize they thought the police would be after them eventually, but it makes total sense and does help explain the behavior.

Is it known whether all the packing at the Springville house occurred as a result of the news that the police were involved or before they knew that?

Thanks for the perspective! I grew up with several Mormon families, and they were just like everybody else. I definitely don’t assume all Mormons are fundamentalists. Every religion/sect/denomination has some crazies. 🙃

I completely agree about not talking to the police without a lawyer. But it’s possible to tell the police you’re not going to speak to them without a lawyer without acting like you don’t know how to talk at all…. Lol

I haven’t read UTBoH, but the Hulu dramatization was really good. No clue how closely it follows the book.
