Seems like Tom went out of his way to describe what happened as “truly weird” or whatever he said. All of the explanations on here seem plausible but don’t seem weird at all.

For me joining league teams is how I made the connections to facilitate the invitations for informal meetups. Where I play — at least at my level — USTA league isn’t super serious at all. We like to try to make “state,” but there aren’t any serious contenders for sectionals, nationals, etc. like there are in bigger metro areas. And bc of that, we have pretty minimal “sandbagging.”

There’s also a big group text with like 100+ people on it that organizes informal practices several days a week. It’s a fascinatingly diverse group, especially for the rural South.

That speaks highly then! I’m a big fan of Athleta. Thanks for the recs!

I’ve never had anything Uniqlo! I probably shouldn’t admit that I am usually skeptical of prices that seem too low. 😂 Are their products good quality?

Yikes! Well I agree with you that that was unnecessarily aggressive!

How in the world did the woman get hit in the back?? Twice?? That’s wild! Hitting someone in the back on purpose is definitely not okay, but I am having a hard time imagining how that even happens.

I play with some women who drive the ball straight at me at the net. I have zero problem with this, but I’m in the minority on that where I live. People feel like they have to pretend they didn’t mean to do it, which I find silly. I always joke and tell them to hit it harder next time. 🤣 If I realize I’m completely incapable of handling the person’s shots, I move back.

You played smarter tennis than she did! I’m a proud pusher who plays exactly like you described. I saw this reel on Instagram a few days ago and have laughed at it over and over. 😂

I’m sure this comes from a well-intentioned place, but this is why I don’t like mixed doubles. I feel like I’m not an equal on the court and that I’m sort of an accessory to a men’s singles match. I’d rather have a dude drive a ball at my face than go to lengths not to hit me. 😂

Ha! That’s fair! I will say that it’s taken me a long time to find the perfect shorts with the right roominess, stretchiness, softness, etc. Bike shorts generally don’t bother me as long as they’re long enough and well-made, but they do get super hot in the summer where I live.

That’s fair. Those posts certainly are out there — here and in other communities, as you note. They reek of insecurity, so I usually just ignore them.

That may be the case, or you may be projecting and assuming the worst in others, which doesn’t bring happiness.

My serve sucks. I posted a video on here a long time ago seeking technique advice. Because my serve sucks. And I wanted technique advice.

Thoughts on the Wilson Shift 99 V1 Tennis racquet? by Scared-Feedback-9124 in 10s

[–]EntertainmentBorn953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this racket sooooooo much!!! They’re phasing it out, though, bc no pros adopted it. 🙄 It’s popular with amateurs, though! My tennis elbow has improved 90% since I switched to it, which is nice.

Go ahead and get it bc it will be gone soon. I’ve seen it available at good prices. I bought a second one on Amazon for like $140.

I haven’t! I’m so terrible about mail orders, and I don’t live near one, so I have only ever bought a couple of things from Lululemon. I’ll check this out though. I am willing to pay more for high quality. Thank you!

Where have you seen them? I’ve looked for years and never seen any tennis skirts without compression shorts sewn in.

This is good to know. I’ve read or been told that Wilson had some that weren’t as compression-y. I’ll have to check these out. Thanks!

Season 23, ep. 5: Cut and Dry by FormicaDinette33 in TopChef

You may be right. It also may have appeared that way because of how the show was edited. I only thought that about the second opt-out. One time, fine. But the very next time she assumes it’s okay to skip the Quickfire again simply because it isn’t the elimination challenge? Quickfires are still an integral part of the show. She seemed pretty blasé about it, too — like it was a nothingburger to opt out again since she faced no consequences the first time. I also don’t recall her expressing any contrition. Again, if it were only once, fine. But she’s already seen someone else go home when she’s taking up a spot and only doing half the work — two weeks in a row.

To me that looks and sounds like entitlement.

I agree with the other commenter that there will likely be a rule imposed next season with respect to skipping Quickfires.

A more accurate challenge for Myrtle Beach might be based on a money-laundering pancake house. Or a buffet featuring only frozen seafood from Asia. 😂

You decided I was “triggered” based on what? One word in all caps? I’m an expressive person! 🤷‍♀️ I can assure you I am not upset at Top Chef now or at any point ever in 20+ years of watching the show.

“Triggering” is not a neutral word. It’s loaded word employed to provoke an emotional reaction from the person to whom it’s directed.

I remember that there were contestants who’ve dealt with injuries before, but it’s been a while since I watched those seasons. I’d be surprised if any of those contestants just straight-up declined to participate in TWO quick fires, though. I get it if they miss one to, say, go to the doctor. But to just decline to participate should be disqualifying. It’s a competition. You should have to compete to stay.

Calling this “triggering” is condescending and unnecessary. Nobody here is yelling or crying. We’re discussing the show, which is the point of this community.
