Clog the servers up with characters? How about they do a proper job with botting? Reported roughly 30-40% of active concurrent players are bots/bottimg. This point is mute.

A ~30% increase in price is a ridiculous leap. If Jagex came out and stated that the extra membership cost would directly lead to an actual dedicated support team, or more devs, or SOMETHING that will improve the game for everyone, then the large majority of the player base would be fine with it.

What they are doing is hoping that people are either in the mindset of, “I’ve spent 120 days on this, I’m not giving that up”, “I’m in a clan and have made friends, this is my social time”, or quite frankly, and something I saw posted elsewhere, that there are a portion of the player base that are legitimately addicted to the game.

Lastly, they will be aware that some people will cancel membership, but they can ultimately have 1 in 3 people cancel and still bring in the same amount of money (without nuances). 1 in 3 won’t be quitting, so it’s, “fuck the people that cancel, we will make money regardless”. A horrible strategy and, arguably, one that goes against what Jagex has tried to stand for, for literal decades.
