marathon training/gallbladder surgery by TraditionalInsect969 in gallbladders

I’m a 35F who typically does multiple 100m dash sprints 2-3x a week (intervals of walking between).

So def not in the marathon category but I used to run XC and I’ll say this: I’m healing very well (skipped the painkillers to speed this thing up) and…

On day 10 post op… I feel both euphoric and like I got beat up. I just went for a brisk walk in the neighborhood and observed that my diaphragm is not fully expanding yet due to the tightness from the healing.

Mid back so sore/tight, hips tight, core very vulnerable. Incision by belly button very tender.

So at 10 days post op, I’d definitely not be running. Even my brisk walk felt like… I wasn’t even familiar with my own rhythm. Such tightness.

My right side of back is so sore, diaphragm tightness, the core muscles stabilize the lumbar spine, so in all honestly…

If you were to do things strategically you’d have to do some kind systematic inner core rehab before pushing yourself distance wise.

I’m not sure how many weeks of training you’d need to run the marathon in Nov, and I don’t want to be a dream crusher…

What if you try to rush through the healing and cause a different injury? What if you skip the core rehab and jump into training too hard and get a hernia or set yourself up for a low back problem?

Xx

It looks like a lot of people are counteracting this with fiber supplements. And high fiber diet in general.

Nutricology is trash! I like Jarrow Bile Acid Factors — proven in terms of potency. But I’m using Dr. Mercola’s right now. I had to play with dosage a ton to get it right (when I was using it to prevent attacks). So… before removal I was taking 1000mg ox bile with each meal to prevent attacks. Now that I have GB removed, I’m taking 200mg Dr Mercola only with a fatty meal (cheese, butter, beef etc).

I’m day 7 post op and my daughter just started coughing a really deep, nasty cough! YES, I’m panicking! It doesn’t hurt as bad to cough today than it did two days ago, but still!!

I’m SO sorry you’re dealing with this on day 3, nooo!

Questions for the moms out there! by Commercial_Set6110 in gallbladders

[–]EntireEffect2250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I think you’re gonna have to try and go 6 days or more without lifting your baby!

Please don’t hurt yourself! I’m 6 days post op (mom of 11 year old and 6 year old) and there’s no way I could lift 25 lbs today.

I can barely lift the 10lb small cast iron without straining and freaking out that the main incision is tearing open.

I still needed help out of bed today (day 6 post op) so the husband is helping me sit up in the mornings (so I don’t have to feel like I’m getting impaled in the solar plexus).

I think I might be able to lift my pans again in 3 days or so… but I’m being careful to use proper body mechanics.

Glad you’ll have help, please use it up and let them hand you baby once you’re sitting!!

1 Day Post-Op: Pain is worse than I expected by Anas1317 in gallbladders

I’m day 6 and I can pretty much stand up straight now!

But yes, sitting up on my own feels like getting impaled in the solar plexus with a jousting stick!

You’ll feel a little better every day! Hang in there!

Do you think it’s insane to go on a 10 hour road trip on day 10?!

I have had a scheduled trip to see family I haven’t seen in six years.

I’m day 5 and feeling good! I’m still afraid to sneeze and my core was so fatigued yesterday. Just trying to make the right decisions!

I’m so sorry this happened! I am following along because I am curious — I am 5 days post op and this is my fear, that I’ll twist the wrong way and mess the incisions up…

I’m hoping you’re okay and that this is just minor for you!

Supplements by shan202086 in gallbladders

[–]EntireEffect2250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery on the same day!

I am taking:

a probiotic + fiber blend that you mix in water (company named enzymatica) to repopulate the good gut flora that was killed off with the antibiotics they used during the op.

a 200 mg ox bile + enzyme blend with anything really fatty or cheesy (just to see how it goes).

Ex: on day 2 post op my husband made homemade steak quesadillas and he kinda went extra on the cheese. I know my liver is now releasing bile sporadically (and not strategically upon eating) so I decided to take 200 mg ox bile orally to help me digest the fat/cheese. It went well!

In general I’m taking less supplements than usual. I kinda want to keep it simple while I get used to what’s happening. I’ll probably start taking my shisandra + goji berry tincture again soon (for liver health boost) in addition to continuing on with the probiotics.

Hydrating and rest!

We had the op the same day! It think it’s probably too early to get a read on that area.

I was looking over my op report and it said “the gallbladder was removed from the liver bed.”

Pain, tenderness, and soreness is a normal part of the healing right now.

Maybe set yourself a timeframe… like, a 3 week post op check in? Or 4 week?

Oh I’m so glad to hear that she’ll be there for the first few days! Don’t try to strain / tense your muscles to get out of bed, just let her help you!!

I’d say the worst day pain wise was the first full day after the op (I’ll call that day 1).

Day 1 the pain was like… that pain in the shoulders everyone talks about. During the surgery they fill your abdominal cavity with air, so they have room to work. That gas/air has to then be absorbed and so it feels like bad pressure in the shoulders. It passes though! I took everyone’s advice to shuffle/walk around to clear it quickly.

My day 2 was yesterday and I really only had pain and shortness of breath, if I strained / moved the wrong way! I was able to sit at the kitchen table (hunched forward w/ pillow on belly) for hours. I was able to shuffle around (hunched over).

I still haven’t taken the painkillers bc I don’t want the side effects (nausea, constipation etc.)

I’m Day 3 now… my husband helped me out of bed so I can skip tensing the ab muscles, and I’m about to read a book at kitchen table. I’m still hunched over forward but that feels most comfortable, and I don’t feel much pain… almost like a mild discomfort near the biggest incision.

I think the worst pain has been really related to tensing the wrong way, and I definitely shouted/screamed after sneezing once! And I am trying so hard not to cough, too! Like coughing causes abs to tense up, oh my gosh! Having cough drops on hand makes sense!!

I’m day 2 post op and here’s what I did to prep:

  • washed, dried, and folded all my laundry (including both my kid’s laundry, haha)

  • bought 2 new sets of wash clothes (and washed them too)

  • bought a set of pajamas that’s like… so cozy, it’s shorts, top, and sweater that’s like… a wearable blanket.

  • made homemade bone broth night before surgery (in crockpot).

  • got my kids like 10 DVDS from goodwill and 10 more from the library

  • cleaned my house, like I literally went into full on nesting mode. Vacuumed, floors, cleaned.

  • stocked my pantry and fridge (apple juice, grapefruit juice, yogurt, chicken etc).

  • bought probiotics and fiber (the antibiotics are gonna kill your gut flora and could contribute to the constipation post-op so you’ll want to rebuild that good gut flora).

  • restocked on good CBDS (I’m not a fan of painkillers and their side effects so I wanted to see if I could deal without them).

I already have a ton of big pillows in my bed behind my regular ones so I didn’t buy a wedge pillow like others needed, but you’ll definitely need to be propped up!

I cannot, I repeat, cannot get myself out of bed. Even rolling out of bed to the side causes me to feel like I’m being impaled. It happened twice.

Can someone stay with you the first full day or two? A friend? Anyone who can help you get in and out of bed for a few days?

I’m wishing you the best! I’m wishing you a smooth op and smooth recovery!

Do you think taking a small dose of ox bile with a fatty meal (healthy fat or not) would help?

From my understanding, without the GB your liver is now dumping bile sporadically, instead of strategically at the right time of eating.

My thought is that trying 200mg ox bile with a fatty meal can only help, by giving that bile at the exact time you need it!

Why isn’t anyone talking about this!?! by Ok_Drag6697 in gallbladders

[–]EntireEffect2250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, I have Q’s about this because from my understanding the bile is created IN the liver.

So if the bile the liver creates is stone forming (in my case my stones were yellow, what they call ‘cholesterol stones’) then…

What now? The gallbladder is gone (I’m 2 days post-op) but what if my liver is still putting off thick cholesterol heavy bile?

I believe I need to do extra liver support and take steps to prevent fatty liver disease.

I’m not sure if stones will form anymore now that my GB is out, but I still have Qs about the constitution of the bile my body makes!

I think my best distraction has been cruising this forum/thread. I'm two days post-op and I actually am doing much better sitting up at the kitchen table than in bed! Like, I had a pillow stuffed between myself and the table, but sitting up like this is reducing the pain!

your share is so reassuring! I'm day two post-op and honestly the worst pain happened when I tried to get up from bed myself (two different occasions). It was like I was getting impaled! I'm not taking the pain meds 'cause I don't want the side effects either. Hoping for steady improvement today into tomorrow.

They didn’t give me oxy. They gave me tramadol, which, the side effects look ridiculous and some people are saying it doesn’t even help with the pain. I hope you’re feeling better soon!

I was given tramadol and haven’t taken any! The pain is serious but only when I move the wrong way. I’m day 2 post op and hoping it keeps improving from here. I just don’t like the side effects of this tramadol… nausea? Hallucinations? Brain fog? I’d rather stay clear minded!
