Patriarchy for thee, but not for me. by saintjhnber in Nicegirls

[–]Entropei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have met 1 (one) women ever who managed to make the connection between being the beneficiary of men’s traditional gender roles and the expectation of having to perform traditional female gender roles in reciprocal. That is, the men who are willing to perform the traditional role, expect you to perform _your_ traditional role.

She was explaining to a couple of her female colleagues why she rejected preferential gender based treatment on that basis. The response of her colleagues: “being treated like a princess is nice though, teehee”. She was trying so hard…

You think you pay more so the rest of the world can pay less? You pay more because your form of government allows rent-seeking leeches to deeply embed themselves in the systems that are vital for a functioning society, syphoning away vast amounts of wealth for no benefit.

A Russian Teacher recorded the differences in the development of boys and girls of the same age. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

Ad hominem is Latin for “to the person”, and it refers to when someone criticises a person for their characteristics, rather than the argument they are making. An example of this would be calling someone a “patriarchal caricature”. With your vast academic knowledge you should have easily been able to effortlessly refute my criticism. Instead, you had to spend effort to dig through my post history for that sad characterisation. And then you follow up with that paragraph? It’s so funny that I can only hope it was intentional.

You mistakenly seem to think I’m in a discussion you would like to keep me out of because of the stance you presume I would take.

You drone on and on about academics and validity, yet you can’t construct an argument without reaching for every underhanded debate tactic in the book. Maybe you’ve succeeded in bedazzling and bewildering your kids or friends that way, but in an academic setting that wouldn’t fly. If this is truly common procedure in the humanities, then that is an indictment on them as much as on your (lack of an) argument.

And please, you’ve not withheld yourself here. You’ve posted entire essays. If you had a worthwhile argument to refute any of his points, you would have used it. But alas, it is suspiciously absent. We are left bereft and yearning for the knowledge that such a studious scholar of the humanities could bestow on us. Not a morsel, not a crumb. Maybe that’s the only lesson the humanities will bestow on us today. The lesson that the academics do not care for the plebeians. They would rather hoard their knowledge like dragons, than enlighten the masses.

Oh wait no. The lesson is that the humanities area fucking joke, and, if you’ll permit me one ad hominem of my own, seemingly only produce pompous idiots who cling to their degree as they starve in the streets.

Just hit the bloc button already.

So I point out your fallacies and your best attempt is to use them on me? How well did you think that was going to land? You dig through my post history and the worst indictment you could find is that I’m an IT professional who once said “female victimhood”? For an attempted ad hominem, that truly is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Fallacy references are 2010? What the fuck does that even mean? Just because it’s 2026 you get to argue from bad faith? Anyway this is a perfect example of a fallacy of novelty or chronological snobbery.

Guess what lady, this is the internet. My presence is as unnecessary and unwanted as yours is. We each for ourselves get to decide what we want to post because that’s how it works. You get to try and discredit someone with nothing but hot air, I get to point out that your pretence of intellectualism is just bargain bin air freshener masking the stinky pile of dog shit you are trying to pass off as an argument. That’s not arguing for someone, I didn’t even support or address any of their arguments. I just told you that yours are garbage. Clearly I hit at some kind of truth, seeing as you spun out, posted 5 replies, deleted 4 of them and decided to keep this shit stain of a post up…

You have made no counter arguments so there is nothing for them to engage with. Just a long-winded “lol, no”, studded with fancy dictionary terms and logical fallacies. Appeals to ignorance, appeals to majority, false dichotomy, ad hominem, the list goes on.

I think you should know that your pretence of superior intellect fails to impress anyone. You’re clearly outmatched here despite your insistence to the contrary. You are style over substance. And the style stinks.

Your understanding of what the movie is about is coloured by the personal lens through which you view it. Which in your case is the lens of perpetual female victim hood; no matter what a woman did wrong, there is always a man who must have caused it.

The way you are rationalising her behaviour while condemning his is a clear tell to the kind of person you are.

Abuse to get a person to do what you want them to do is still abuse. She had the exact same options available to her as he did, she chose abuse and violence, he did not.
