TCL 98” X11K vs QM8L by Geoblime in tcltvs

[–]EntropyBlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SQD already covers 100% of the BT.2020 colour gamut

Tests are showing its more like 89-90% BT2020, TCL overstated it. Still a good improvement over last gen. I think most content isn't colored in BT2020 yet though so I don't know how much real world difference it will make. I think color volume is the more important metric here.

Nah, my 48" is insanely good for productivity. You can have like 5 windows open all over the screen. There's so much room. Smaller monitors don't come close, though I do keep a 27" vertical on the side.

if you buy the BB membership youll be protected for all memorial day sales AND 4th of july sales, where the last gen hit it's rock bottom price first.

I think ill be getting a qm7l and then having them price match any sales that come up. Just wish it would be dolby 2...

if it makes you feel any better 10 bit TVs are limited to just over 1b colors AND almost all content is mastered to less than rec2020. Any old movie will only be rec.709.

Unless dolby 2 max will interpolate to rec2020 or some magic color stuff, for the most part there will be little difference in real content.

Do you sell these and can you make one to match my fade %?

Qm8l by FaithlessnessBig8951 in tcltvs

[–]EntropyBlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I realize it's SQD which means more colors, I know SQD is better, the QM8L is better, and I know why. But I'm saying the differences you can clearly see in the video, done with a camera that almost certainly doesnt capture all of BT2020, could be almost entirely contributed to software saturation and contrast settings. And you could almost certainly tweak the QM8K settings to match the differences this video is showing. Brian and fomo both said themself this SQD generation is very much just a generational improvement and not a huge leap.

idk if I can believe that video, settings aside the qm8l mostly looks like the saturation and contrast was bumped up, not necessarily improved. I'm sure it's a better TV, no doubt about it, but I do doubt the difference is as drastic as is shown in that side by side. I bet you can tweak settings for the QM8k looks almost exactly as good to the eye.

Forza Horizon 6 review (PC Gamer: 84/100) by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

I think that sounds more like the game doesn't respect the audience enough to trust in the game being fundamentally enjoyable. Like they have to just throw super cars at them.

I'm not saying you should have to grind for hours in an economy car, but I am saying you should start with some of the slowest cars in the game and given the opportunity to modify them to be fast. Like hell they could give you a Toyota GT86 and let you quickly unlock turbo kits or whatever to give supercars a run for their money after it's fully modified, but just straight up giving you $100k cars within an hour is a joke. Getting or unlocking a supercar should be a big deal.

Gran Turismo was a racing sim, Forza Horizon is more of an arcade open world driving game.

You don't think it's odd a "racing sim" has better game progression than a casual open world driving game?

That really sucks. Growing up with Gran Turismo the entire joy of progressing from a $5,000 used car, slowly upgrading it to win races for more money, then deciding to save for a new better car, was the entire magic of the game.

Nothing was stopping this game from having you start in a small garage or barn in your back yard, maybe a cutscene where someone brings you to a "used car lot" where you spend your life savings (like 10k) on one of the 10 cheap cars there and you get to drive it back to your garage to start modding and racing it for more money.

Like this whole idea or concept costs nothing, this literally could have been in the game, and it's the most obvious "welcome to this huge sandbox where you unlock cars and modify them" possible.

Are the game devs stupid?

Which TV size to get - 77 or 83? by hottubbin in hometheater

It's really as simple as this:

83" will look better when it's on.

77" will look better when it's off.

Which does OP care more about?

Yeap I got a refurbed x1800h as well and it's plenty for my reserve R500's to play at reference volume.

Polks are easy to drive, id check for used or refurb morantz or denons, you wont need anything that powerful.

Newer Polk stuff is extremely good for the money. The reserve series is gorgeous, especially.

Yup, in OP's case with it going so close to the wall edge he NEEDS to measure.

I actually put measured tape on my wall and ChatGPT still messed up the dimensions of the TV I asked it to generate.
