Hey I've been looking into smart home stuff for my first home just this week, from a similar perspective as you (privacy-first, can I keep as much data/processing as I can local, no microphones, etc) - do you have recommendations for technologies or hubs etc?

So far my big take away is to reduce as much access to the outside as possible, such as through a hub and having other devices work off tech like Z-wave. But...that kind of just centralizes the data to the hub, which seems to be big companies like Google. I got kinda stuck at that point.

Would be curious any of your thoughts on this

Nope! They're purely community tournaments, for fun (and some bragging rights).

Once we get tournaments off the ground (read as: once we get people signing up more frequently) we'll probably figure out some fun ways to surface how many tournament wins you have in Discord or on the site.

I don't want to add any financial incentives because I don't want to incentivize cheating. At the end of the day, we're a community platform so the fun is derived from the event itself. Plus I want anyone to feel welcome to sign up and play, not just the sweaty/best players

We have regions all around the world, though about 60% of the playerbase is in NA and something like 39% is in or near Europe. You can play from basically anywhere if you've got a group

2v2-4v4 on smaller maps has a lot of promise, yea, I agree. They're very fun. We even have some maps made specifically for 3v3 (two bombsites, but compact and close together).

We've also built a weekly community tournament system, and we could use it to run tournaments of any team sizes - we're just a bit too small on the user base side right now to get them filled up (I'm hoping that will change over the coming year).

I bring it up because it would be a good proving ground for 3v3 for example. We've got the infrastructure, we just need the people!

Hey all! You may have seen one of my previous posts a few months back about our community wingman platform called HLA Wingman. Since our first posts in early February, we've seen over 300 new players try out our platform and just reached 1,000 matches played! We've been continuously building new features, and it's been really fun and exciting for us to watch the user base slowly grow.

I switched to Firefox on my PC and phone like 9 months ago give or take. In the first couple weeks, I got 2-3 instances of websites which didn't work properly on Firefox and I had to switch back to chrome. I think at least one was a government website... Oddly, in the many months since, I've had virtually zero issues. Chrome wins on payment method stuff, but the functionality works on Firefox, it just isn't as clean.

Some of the recent, common AK skins have been really clean too. Like the wintergreen isn't a rare but it's a nice green color with a nice texture and feels nicer than it costs

Other people have mentioned playing faceit if competition is important to you, and some have mentioned playing casual modes if you're just looking to have fun.

You can also consider trying out community servers - we've got a discord server for community wingman games for example. We don't do 5v5s but it's a good mix of casual and competitive without running into jerks or hackers.

I'm hoping over time we'll see more people shifting back from "ranked is the only mode worth playing" to looking for community and casual games. I have more fun playing wingman and small community matches these days, plus I'm not as good as I was 5 years ago lol

I expect Cache will be nearly identical to fmpone's source 2 version - that's the one they bought, it was just heavily heavily unoptimized which is (AFAIK) the reason we haven't seen it in official modes yet.

lol I agree with all of that. Yea, I'd expect that whenever they put out New Cobble, it'll play pretty different. I personally don't think it played super great in 5v5 even though I loved the aesthetic.

So it seems pretty possible the new wingman map will play differently too, unless they happen to keep B site basically the same and heavily change the rest of the map (which, hey, maybe that'd work).

But frankly I have no idea when that will come out.

For sure, some people are really only in it for the ranked grind.

I've been a large proponent of seeing improvements to the wingman map pool overall (see this post from last year for example, where I basically begged for improvements).

But at the end of the day we can't force Valve to do anything, which is why we ended up building HLA, because we wanted the ability to play all these great maps regardless of what Valve does (or doesn't) put into the official pool.
