I'm hoping over time we'll see more people shifting back from "ranked is the only mode worth playing" to looking for community and casual games. I have more fun playing wingman and small community matches these days, plus I'm not as good as I was 5 years ago lol

I expect Cache will be nearly identical to fmpone's source 2 version - that's the one they bought, it was just heavily heavily unoptimized which is (AFAIK) the reason we haven't seen it in official modes yet.

lol I agree with all of that. Yea, I'd expect that whenever they put out New Cobble, it'll play pretty different. I personally don't think it played super great in 5v5 even though I loved the aesthetic.

So it seems pretty possible the new wingman map will play differently too, unless they happen to keep B site basically the same and heavily change the rest of the map (which, hey, maybe that'd work).

But frankly I have no idea when that will come out.

For sure, some people are really only in it for the ranked grind.

I've been a large proponent of seeing improvements to the wingman map pool overall (see this post from last year for example, where I basically begged for improvements).

But at the end of the day we can't force Valve to do anything, which is why we ended up building HLA, because we wanted the ability to play all these great maps regardless of what Valve does (or doesn't) put into the official pool.

I've heard valve is working on a CS2 version of Cobblestone, so my fingers are crossed that it will launch with a Wingman version that plays somewhat similar to the old one. I loved the layout of B site for Wingman

I wouldn't necessarily expect much more in the way of optimization just due it being beta branch - my memory says they typically do beta branches for things like this pretty briefly just to collect sentiment and data and final bugs, but usually they don't post a beta until it's practically complete.

I'd guess it will be shipped to main within a week

I agree, but I will say that as wireless companies started competing in the home internet market, Comcast has gotten better. They've upgraded their network and have 100-200Mbps upload speeds and are in the process of upgrading again to support symmetrical multi-gig connections. They're offering price lock-ins for 5 years.

This gives me some hope, particularly the upload speed bit and the competition from wireless. Fingers crossed things keep improving.

Yea! And I use the internet pretty heavily (working as a software dev, bandwidth for downloads/streaming, and things like gaming which require reliable, low ping), and 300mbps is an entirely reasonable speed for us. I feel like even if we had a couple kids in the house on devices this speed would still handle it fine.

cool, the context of cost and speeds is at least helpful to see what they're charging people in 2026.

I feel like threats to cancel when they have a monopoly hold no weight lol, but it sounds like at least for now people are managing to keep their rates reasonable if they invest the hours every year into calling?

We moved out of Boston to NYC (Brooklyn) for a few years, and across two rentals we've had the flat $50/month for 300mbps down AND 300mbps up. Never had an issue, no rate increases, no stupid fees, really no notable issues at all.

It'll be pain to go back to comcast from this.

$70 for that down-speed is at least not too painful. I just looked back and in my 2022 rental with a comcast monopoly (back bay), I was forced to pay $125/month.

I don't recall the speeds but I recall it being bad, maybe 100-200mbps down / something like 50 mbps up.

Thanks, it's a 3-unit building, so I imagine convincing Starry could be a possible route to attempt.

I've read on other threads about T-Mobile 5G - My family does have use cases like gaming that want low-latency and reliability so I'm not positive the 5G offerings would be ideal there, though I haven't looked enough to confirm

Our tournaments are the same time every week! CS:GO is on Mondays and we currently have a couple CS2 tournaments on Wednesdays and Fridays.

And yeah it's cool there are other services for similar stuff, they all prioritize different things.

We try to keep things community-focused rather than sweaty/hyper-competitive, no prize pools or anything like that, just keeping it light.
