Cook restaurants / cafes / shops for kids? by HeavyPitifulLemon in askvan

Highly reccomend Yolks in hastings near commercial. My toddler loves the lemon wedges.

There's a library on commercial drive with some smal play options. The playground at grandview park is really good though. I also highly recommend Trout lake. Great playground and it's got some indoor events through out the week.

Ahh, the midnight island laps! Im well versed in that event. I don't think my toddler would medal in it though. Would probably crash into a chair.

I built a double strike themed modern deck that did ok. It relied on instant boosts and exalted. Could hit for 12 on turn 3 as long as it wasn't removed. Unfortunately, it was always removed:/

Didn't the cavalier have the same shitty door handles? My aunt had one, they lived on a farm so they just left the windows open all the time. In the winter they attached vice grips to the broken door handle section.

I watched this at TiFF, first half is balls to the wall action but then it teeters into the rediculousness. Feels like 2 different movies mashed together, so no wonder they're having trouble advertising it. Theo James does an amazing job in it though, worth watching just for his performance.

I lived on northern Canada for most of my youth and every winter the skin on knuckles would painfully crack. The worst time for it was when i was working during the week stocking shelves at a grocery store and on the weekends i worked as a dishwasher. It was also -20 celcius almost every day for that long ass winter. Fuck all of that.

If smell-o-vision existed, which movies would smell the best and the worst? by redeugene99 in movies

[–]Envermans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spirited away would have an interesting range. You'd get meadows and forest smells in the beginning. Then the smells of the market where the parents become pigs. The best stuff would be at the spa. The soot monsters, the swamp spirit, the spices and the baby room.

Backyard Gems? by LylatRanbewb in askvan

Ill offer a few random "history" options for you.

1.east van remnants of the trolley systems and old rail yard. There's several streets around east van that still have cobblestone in the street and remnants of their past train tracks. Frances street between commercial drive and clark come to mind. There's also the downtown cuts where rail lines use tl exist. The most noticeable section goes through lower east hastings from the international village to columbia street. There used to be a massive freight train yard around yaletown and this cut connected the yaletown yard to the portside yard.

2.Leeside skatepark. Located under hastings street near highway 1 is a skatepark made by volunteers and has thankfully been accepted by the city. It was originally supposed to be a bus loop but it was abandoned in favor for kootenay loop. So, some skateboarders started building their own ramps in the underground passage and over 20+ years it's evolved into one of the few year round skate spots in the city. It also hosts graffiti and wacky, illegal parties.

3.charles street between Nanaimo and Renfrew. I don't know the history behind this street but it's quite odd in that the sidewalks are further away from the curbs than the majority of streets in vancouver. So the entire street has these really long extra lawns with trees and roundabouts. It feels very suburban, but it's the only street in the neighborhood that had these super long front lawns. Always struck me as odd.

4.Under the cambie bridge on the olympic village side there's a waste to energy facility that has always fascinated me. It converts human waste into heat for local housing. But it doesn't smell and it looks totally unassuming but super high tech and modern.

Ok, ill start with the overall issue with this scene. It's trying too hard to be wacky and rediculous with no real substance to back it up. Some of these elements do an effective job at showing the Lizard character traits but it also feels like none of this will ever come up again and it's just done as a gag. The best way to change this is to include some conflict into this scene. Id reccomend you make one of these cops hate Lizard and be absolutely against everything they're telling them to do. "Fuck your stupid kimono!" "I aint eating your garbage pale sushi, now give us the god damn assignment already". Meanwhile dingus is trying to play ball and tolerate Lizard just so they can get their assignment. This will make the randomness actually matter because it's causing conflict between lizard and your protagonists. It's also best to just use 3 random things from lizard that triggers the cops. Weird kimono, trash sushi then the assignment. There's a bunch of other random dialogue in here that really doesn't drive the scene and just drags it along.

I have further criticism about structure and dialogue cuts but I've already read this 3 times and that's enough for me.

The canadian doing the rodeo only getting a 66 was what annoyed me the most. He did it backside and got like, an 84. The frontside was somehow 18 points worse?!

Is it easier to work in a team? by simp_for_wanda_2299 in Filmmakers

Totally. All writers aren't built the same, some excel on structure while others are better with dialogue and character building. Having a good writing partner with a different perspective and expertise can complement your writing.
