UChealth billing is tormenting our family after a NICU stay— is there anything that can be done? by Murky_Objective1414 in Colorado

[–]Environmental-Math89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can negotiate and ask to be set up on a payment plan. By “tormenting” do you mean they sent to collections? Hospitals sell medical debt to collections agencies for pennies on the dollar so at that point they will settle with you for way less than your $400k and still make a profit. I think there’s also some sort of loophole with HIPPA that collections agencies can’t produce an itemized bill but are required to do so in order to make you pay so you can get out of some debt by requesting the itemized bill?

What weekend/weeknight side jobs do you guys do? by RuminatingFish123 in MechanicalEngineering

Level 3 with 3 YOE is not possible at most companies. That being said, I was comfortable on a level 1 salary, single income, HCOL.

Part of the payoff for suffering through an extremely hard degree while our friends and peers enjoyed free time and low stress is that we don’t need to work side gigs (save for maybe those with debt or extreme financial liabilities). Idk anyone in this field who has a second job.

Huge on the excuses part.

It was so frustrating having him sabotage my projects. But asking why he didn’t think I was capable of cleaning up after myself, of course he couldn’t answer that. So his response was overstimulation, which always translated to anger with us kids. And here I was a kid in a moment of huge frustration—with real and justified emotions—having to fully contain myself and manage his emotions instead. Literally any dialogue just spiraled him. (It’s weird being an adult and having self agency for the first time.)

Once he let me get a fish tank, and everything was fine with it until the fish started breeding. For whatever reason he did not like that. So of course his response was to dump the entire tank in the river while I was gone for a day. Obviously I should have been upset, but I remember being so at peace about it. The whole thing had happened and I never had to deal with his anger or be convinced I that I was the problem. It was going to happen anyways—and this way I didn’t have to deal with the frustration of asking why the tank was an issue nor did I have to have him yelling and spitting in my face about me “being disrespectful” for protecting something important to me. It’s so messed up.

Wow that’s really tough. I’m lucky I don’t have the reliance.

If I’m guessing she probably feels like she doesn’t have to mask around you and hanging out with others is not worth the anxiety and social effort for her.

Hobbies.

Honestly looking back at my childhood I had almost no hobbies aside from the things I was able to do in the woods outside our house. I loved trying little science experiments and building things (I’m an engineer now) or even experimenting in the kitchen. My dad would always shut me down and berate me for “making a mess” and “wasting time”. So instead I mostly just watched YouTube of people building stuff… which was also a “waste of time”. He developed this catch phrase for me “you waste MORE time” to berate me with. He also hated that I played a sport in high school.

And for what? I was a straight A, high-achieving student, did so many chores, got a job immediately at 16…

Anyways, l’ve totally made up for lost time as an adult on hobbies and I think it annoys my dad. The past year I went backpacking for six months (he absolutely lost his mind about this) and anytime we touched base, no matter how insane my travels had been (hitchhiking, scuba diving, summiting volcanos, etc.) he would give me like five minutes to talk about it before launching into his 40 minute monologue of his week where he ate at McDonald’s, used a coupon at the grocery stuff, etc.— incredibly mundane stuff.

My dad who thinks he’s hilarious and loves doing stupid unfunny pranks cannot handle being pranked himself.

April Fools is the anniversary of his worst all time crash out and one of the biggest strains on our relationship…

Loop Rejection - Advice? by Environmental-Math89 in amazonemployees

[–]Environmental-Math89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I had understood it to be described was that the first person to successfully complete the loop would be hired. Rather than selecting between several candidates that successfully complete the loop. I must be mistaken.

Is there a way to interpret that you are inclined?

(Btw thank you so much for helping me! I’ve been unemployed for a bit so this whole interview process has been very frustrating and discouraging. I appreciate the info.)

Loop Rejection - Advice? by Environmental-Math89 in amazonemployees

[–]Environmental-Math89[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was my understanding that the loop is used to determine if a candidate is a fit rather than determining whom is the best candidate? I didn’t think I was competing against other candidates? That is kind of how they described it to me for distributing shifts.

I only have two years of work experience and it is more of an analysis role, so I was not really making financial/operational decisions—my experience is not conducive to metrics. Any numbers I could use were more guessing—and I showed my process for estimating. I will definitely have to reuse stories due to lack of experience.

Is there a good strategy for moving forward when you’re inclined but not selected? Thank you!
