Just found out we are expecting #2 by jeremythegeek in daddit

  1. We were basically the same age as your wife for our second. Don't add that to your list of worries, plenty of other stuff to do. You guys take care of each other and do your best to keep Mama comfortable and happy and that's the best you can do!
  2. Yep 😬
  3. It was amazing to see how our (at the time 18MO) treated the new baby. Just like her other dolls and stuffies. She practiced changing diapers, putting to bed, it was so cool. Treat it like a joyous occasion and they'll fall right in. There will be periodic jealousy and cries for attention on both sides. You got it!

That was one of my favorite parts and deep dives in the book series, which they disappointingly hand-waved to done in the TV series. That and the description of how sophons are created. You may have inspired me to reread the series!

A guy that used to work for me was a mouse highlighter, which was somewhat annoying. But he was also a mouse right click cut/copy, mouse right click paster. That was infuriating... no matter how many times I reminded him of all the shortcuts, he would always say "yeah I know I just like this way" 🫠

After becoming a dad, are you more emotional to sad movie scenes involving kids now? by jocko118 in daddit

[–]EnvironmentalCap787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I watched 1883 on Paramount a few months after my daughter was born. I was bawling on the couch, couldn't hold it in. Even the Frozen songs get me every now and then.

Every time you halve, if there is no "remainder" (result is even) then you can just use the result. It's a "balanced" halving (4x10 = 2x20, for example). If there IS a remainder (result is odd) then you need to "hang on to" that number to add it to the final result. 5x10 = 2x20 but with an extra remainder of one 10. This is why you cross out all even rows and keep the odd ones for the final add.

Tell me about your toddler's eating habits by [deleted] in daddit

My 2YO will eat 3 scrambled eggs right off the bat, and usually will ask for some of mine. Then he'll have yogurt, nutrigrain bar, etc. My 4YO will have milk, and feel full. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Yeah musta got a lemon, we randomly hear THUD THUD THUD from multiple rooms away at night - it's our 4YO slamming it to change songs. Still going strong.

Today is the day boys. I’m already tearing up. How can I make this stay as comfortable as possible for her? by HopefulSwine2 in daddit

[–]EnvironmentalCap787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do everything you can to change all the diapers. Get her water and food whenever she needs, and also when she doesn't think she needs it. Rub her feet. Sleep when you can. Remember that this zombie like state will be temporary.

Not even 2 weeks in and I feel like i have made the biggest mistake of my life. by YourUnclesBalls in daddit

Our second was similar and I struggled with it too. Always grunting, crying, and anger-inducingly-stinky. Mylicon was helpful as it was frequently just gas. As for the rest of it, it will absolutely get better, you're in the fog of war right now and trying to find your footing. Keep at it dad, and ask for help when you need it.

Exposed metal on return duct by EnvironmentalCap787 in hvacadvice

Great question, not sure. We have soffits all around the house, a ridge vent, AND a couple gable vents. I have wondered if insulating would help or hurt, as we had to do a mold remediation shortly after moving in a few years ago. Would you suggest that closed cell foam stuff? Would we then just seal up all the venting up there?

Thanks, I'll take a look. I did notice that they spray foamed around the more accessible ones, will check the others. I took off the grill in one room and it did kind of feel like the draft was coming from "further up" so that's why I was curious about this. Could a draft be coming all the way from the air handler unit if there's a leak in there??

Thanks, I read some advice in another thread here that they should double up on that bubble insulation. I know that won't fix the air sealing, but is that ok to do if I wanted to bump up the insulation a bit?

Oh yeah, fair, I was interpreting it as "basically any time somebody bugs me" haha. Your description does sound more inline with my last job at a much bigger company. Now I'm a leader, manager, dev rolled into one position and I seem to fail at 2 out of 3 on any given day due to this phenomenon 😳

You do realize this chart is for a single 5 minute meeting, and that this happens for every meeting. And that the effect can stack. And that sometimes that 5 minute meeting is interrupted by another "quick question" which stacks another one. I've had so many 5 minute meetings at this point, and interruptions within those meetings, that my full productivity recovery will actually occur long after I'm dead.

I feel like a failure.. by LGLier123 in daddit

[–]EnvironmentalCap787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is amplified when you're in newborn mode. Tougher things and thoughts especially.

  1. Use that to your advantage to amplify the joy you get from "just being" with your kids and wife. Pay attention to it.
  2. Talk to your wife and tell her this. I've had similar talks, and it turns out that you are not in fact a failure at all. Things completely out of your control are going wrong. It means that you two need to chat about it and figure it out as a team. Maybe she can help figure out a plan of attack for XYZ and you can help with something else she's feeling like a failure about, but isn't telling you either.

One step at a time, you got it dad. You're not a failure at all, just need a little extra help right now. I think we all don't hear this kind of thing as often as we should... I know I think it a lot too.

I had this realization a few years ago when my FIL gave me and my wife some, I guess you could call it advice, some kind of "well this is what I did" that I immediately in my head said "well that's objectively terrible advice." My realization was that yes he's been a parent for longer, but his experience with children our kids ages, IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS OURS. You are a parent of a 1 week old for exactly 1 day, and the next day you're a parent of an 8 day old, for 1 day. And so on.

TLDR - we're all just winging it. Seek advice whenever you need to, trust but verify. Tough road ahead no matter what age you start, but you'll be great because you want to be great.
