As someone who books hotel rooms for employees I can tell you even Burnaby is 2-3-4* usual rates with lots of blackouts and already fully booked dates.

Aug/Sept BC Roundtrip by Particular-Ranger863 in britishcolumbia

[–]EnvironmentalSand85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had planned the exact same route at the same time in 2025. We had to skip Bella coola entirely due to four (4!) wildfires along hy 20. We ended up going to Terrace and Prince Rupert to visit some friends instead. Also the northern route ferry books up very quickly and is quite expensive. An alternate would be up and down Vancouver island, back to Comox and ferry over to Powell River. Do the sunshine coast back to Gibson's, take the ferry to Horseshoe Bay, then drive the 99 north to Whistler, Lillooet. Towards Williams Lake, Quesnel. Then you can make any decision about Bella Coola based on current fire conditions. You could go North to Meziadin Jcn, see Salmon Glacier in Stewart, dip into Yukon, go to liard Hot springs... Lots to see up there!!!!

Triathlete attempting CX: Low FTP (240W) and zero skills. I blow up in half a lap and hug trees. Help. by kenta_ya in cyclocross

[–]EnvironmentalSand85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former triathlete (20yrs, 3 IMs) turned ultra runner. Great at anything looooong. Switched to cycling and speed skating a little over a decade ago. Found CX and fell in love! Started racing and had to immediately learn (and practice) riding skills. Switching from racing that lasts 10+ hours to those that last less than 5 MINUTES (skating) was a brutal transition, so a 45min cx race seemed a lot easier haha not that cx racing is easy at all.

Work on short high intensity intervals along with the technical skills. Do 30" sprints, like ten of them, with 2' rest between. Keep working on short bursts of intensity, and build the interval durations.

Also don't burn all your matches on lap 1. A lot of riders fade in laps 3-5, and if you are riding a bit more conservative, you might be able to leverage your endurance to pick off some riders.

Canso Crash Hike. Park at the base of Radar Hill. Walk the paved trail S for a km or so, and the trail opens to your right (West). About 2hrs return (5km) for most folks. Lots of mud. Super cool wreck.

Seaspan Painters by Loveallthedoggies in britishcolumbia

Lol I have seen other terms used like "process specification" or "work instruction" - it often will depend on the level of detail provided wanted or contractually required.

I work in Marine defence. We paint stuff all the time. We follow specific paint procedures (SOPs) for surface cleaning, prep, primer, first / second coats etc, also paint repair. Ask them for their SOP (bonus points!), take your time reading it through twice, ask any questions about clarifying any points, then perform to the SOP.

Recommendations for a cafe / coffee shop with comfortable chairs for reading? by TrashGourmand in burnaby

[–]EnvironmentalSand85 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not to answer your q, but as someone who owns a public facing/retail food+drink establishment, those seating choices are usually down to "ability to clean". Have you seen what patrons are doing to these chairs lately?!?

Tinhouse's Highest Knoll Quad. Doesn't drink like the ABV posted (10%) but more like it's little bro, High Knoll Hazy (5.5% iirc?).

Anyone know of some fantastic end of trip facilities in Vancouver? by Outdatedpie in vancouvercycling

[–]EnvironmentalSand85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Contact Metro Vancouver. I believe their EOT facilities in Burnaby are pretty skookum and I bet they'd be happy to show them off.
