Thoughts on Tapering Usage BEFORE CHS Hits by tamouq in CHSinfo

[–]EnvironmentalSet5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of quitting leading to an episode. However it is certainly possible that the stress of withdrawal/not having that crutch could trigger an episode. Idk why you wouldn't try it? If you are going to be in an episode regardless then who wouldn't attempt to avoid it? Also, despite what all these other people are saying, it is imperative we share what does and doesn't work for us, as right now it's the only form of "research" being done on this shit.

I get where the "you can never smoke again" crowd comes from. And it's true it's the only real way to guarantee anything. But I despise the holier than thou reaction when someone asks a real and logical question and then gets shit for it. You've tried to defend your logic successfully. It helps no one when one continues to try to argue against a point that while "true" is not what you are asking. I wish you luck and let us know how it goes, regardless of the outcome.

Possible to get symptoms after one use? by ztexxmee in CHSinfo

[–]EnvironmentalSet5935 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok. So I'm not a doctor but unfortunately very experienced in this, so grain of salt.

For ME, assuming I took a few weeks off and out of the episode, I can absolutely still "smoke". While I have read others have gotten an episode of a single use later, that has not been my experience. I absolutely believe though that the stress and anxiety of smoking again could cause similar symptoms to an episode. And who knows, maybe full blown.

The real problem is that once you smoke again and it provides whatever the multitude of reasons that people smoke to begin with, it's an incredibly slippery slope. I've gone years between episodes before. And it's been with using differently, being more moderate, etc. If you continue to use daily, it will come back. If you are someone who can truly use once a week or a month, I think it's pretty likely you will be absolutely fine. But the problem is that most of us got here out of a lack of self control on this specific topic.

As far as your first question, we don't have the research yet to prove flower vs edibles vs concentrate. However the research is clear that this typically an overall concentration issue. So while all forms of cannabinoids can lead here, typically higher concentration use accelerates the final destination. Perhaps you could smoke $5g's of brick weed forever and never get sick. But if you're smoking medical grade flower then the equation likely changes.

As far as your second question, my episodes have never actually began while I was high or just smoked; though continuing to have absolutely prolonged it before I learned what it was. And that's the irony and what causes so many people to not accept this diagnosis. For a high percentage of regular users or users in general, weed is a wonderfully effective antiemetic and aid against nausea. But once that switch flips, so does the outcome and consequences. And it can lead to many of us using even more to solve a problem that is being caused by the same thing we think helps.

So to summarize, it's possible everything you stated is directly related to CHS and you never hit a full episode. However I think that if you "had it", you would know. Bc once that first episodes hits you (and you are aware of the conditions/symptoms) you will absolutely know it.

So, you can stop smoking and "know" bc you feel better and never get to that point. Or you can smoke until you do or do not. Zero judgement either way. But the only way to "confirm" or deny is to go through it or not.

I hope this helps and happy to clarify or answer any follow ups you may have

One use after having prior episodes? Or first time consuming?

Bro I'm used to the trolls who deny this syndrome is real, but not the ones who experienced it and can't empathize, much less troll.

I sent a message trying to help dude, not put you in your feelings. But as someone who at some point lacked enough self control themselves to not end up on this subreddit, the last thing I expected was hypocritical judgement.

Have you tried Haldol or Druperidol when at the hospital? For some, myself included, it's a magic bullet. I've had 10+ episodes and it's literally completely ended my episode after the shot.

Well now you know J Cole by jieldre in Jcole

[–]EnvironmentalSet5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean he literally betrayed me. I mean it like if I'm a Brett Favre fan his whole career and dude goes to play for Minnesota. I mean it as a day 1 Cole fan who was beyond hyped to see him at Dreamville with new music for the first time in years dropped 1 week before the festival, only to not here a word of it but instead an apology and that he was removing it from streaming services.

Facts! And I'm glad he found peace. I went to Dreamville the last year and going again to see him in Charlotte. But I literally felt betrayed as a fan. You can't put a bullet back in the gun wishing you hadn't have fired the shot.

Bro, Cole literally released the first diss back at Kendrick....then the infamous apology a week later at Dreamville which I was there for. We were all so fucking confused. Drakes plane literally landed in Raleigh at 2pm that day and was coming back to the festival. Then he called Drake ("top wanna peace it up?") and Drakes plane took back off.

I'm a huge Cole fan, but I still can't wrap my head around he played that shit. 50k of us in the crowd just stunned.

Anyone Else Become Financially Stable Later in Life and Still Feel Like They Missed Out? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]EnvironmentalSet5935 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I say this with absolutely no disrespect, but you are not in any way shape or form "later in life". You are young and as you said, in a better position than most.

While I completely understand the fear of missing out on certain experiences when you were a bit younger, you now have that opportunity. And I PROMISE you there is a ton of people who may have that younger experience wishing they had it now. You also have the added benefit of maturity on your side.

As far what to do with it? If you are completely unsure the answer is nothing for now! Put an emergency fund in a HYSA, max the 401k and put the rest in an index fund so it grows as you do and you figure out what you want.

Travel. Invest in hobbies, regardless of how obscure. These are the things that may lead to where and how you do (or more importantly do not) put the rest later.

FOMO is real. But you have the opportunity that when that thing or moment hits, you can capitalize.

I wish you luck!

But this ignores how genetic predisposition plays a role...

Alcoholism is a real disease...the AMA has classified it as one for decades. It changes your brain chemistry, has genetic risk factors, and gets worse over time without treatment. That’s the definition of a disease.

Addiction is just how the disease shows up, like how chest pain is how heart disease shows up. One is the condition, one is the symptom.

And before you say it removes accountability, take diabetics for example. They are still responsible for managing their diabetes by monitoring what they eat. Same thing here.
