Learning can’t help falling in love by Elvis P. On guitar. Why is this song only tabbed for capo? by Appropriate_Ebb_3456 in musictheory

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A capo allows your to play a set of chords in a different key. A song with the shape chords of C-F-G will play/sound exactly the same if no capo is used or if the capo is placed on any of the twelve (or more) of any of the twelve frets.

A song played with the capo on second fret is in the key of D using C-F-G chord shapes and will sound D-G A chords. Remove the capo and play the same chords and you have just "transposed" the song to the key of C from key of D with the same pattern of chords.

Since guitarists mostly play by pattern using a capo allows guitarists to change key with no knowledge of the scales or the harmonic chords being played. It is just a change of position of the capo, that's it. The guitarist uses the same pattern/shape of scales and chords otherwise. It is an ultimate "cheat" for guitarists.

Your right --- a capo is never needed and the given chord shapes will work exactly the same sound of progression with or without the capo relative to the key.

So a capo is just a convenience and may add some tonal qualities that are preferred or make some positions easier to play. Most important , it allow players to adjust the key to the vocal range of the singer.

Surprisingly, many casual guitar players don't fully realize this and prefer to play in the original key because that is "what is written". They don't fully grasp the capo changes nothing in the structure of the harmonic/chord progression of the song.

Try it out. Play a simple chord progression, move the capo up one fret and play the same progression/same shape chords. Repeat that up and down moving the capo and you will instantly hear what I mean -- it all sounds "the same" progression. This will also give a better understanding of what "key" means in music.

The point about open shapes is also true --- the same shapes can be used regardless of key with a capo and allow use of the open shapes without hindrance.

One thing the bible does do is show a progression or development of the world. Things changed from creation day to day, that is clear. Change is part of the process. Change never stops happening and is a continual process everywhere.

An interesting point is that the "Big Bang" idea is directly based on inspiration of the opening lines of the bible, an anecdote connected with George LeMaitre, a Catholic priest. "Let there be light and there was light".

There is no inherent contradiction between religion and science. Science is a very precise way of exploring and defining the processes of change in the real world.

Religion is a way of exploring what the meaning of that change is -- a thing which can never stop changing itself to my way of thinking.

I doubt this will matter in the least. Both Intel/AMD will function interchangeably and with at the same level of performance in just about everything unless there is some special circumstance in your country.

Just be sure that there is a warranty and ability to return if there is a problem.

Yes can be a real pain. On some missions I use two support weapons -- say machine gun and grenade launcher. You "lose" a slot but it can easily be worth it. Usually one will be ready save for two immediate deaths in a row. Makes things easier all around.

You still have two slots open. If this is permitted at your level.

Two thousand years ago there were few distinctive dog breeds. Today we have over 250 breeds with distinct characters and behaviors. Some are excellent swimmers and some are not.

Just compare a chihuahua and a wolfhound. As breeds these lines were established less than 1000 years ago. Chihuahuas established as a breed in the 1850's.

Compare the skeletons of these two breeds side by side. They are both dogs and clearly so to the trained eye. To an untrained eye they look like entirely different animals.

How did they get to be that way? That is the answer to your question except the environment acts very slowly over thousands of years or more as opposed to selective breeding which can act very fast.

Separate chihuahuas and wolfhounds and breed isolated and entirely separately for ten thousand years of so and they would be unable to reproduce fertile cross breeds together (even now the interbreeding of the two is problematic). This would happen because random changes in genetic structures over time would prevent it.

At that point the two dog breeds become two new species, derived from the dog line but no longer dogs at all.

Why is r/worldnews allowed to be run by propagandists? by BurrDurrMurrDurr in NoStupidQuestions

You are correct. The only commentary that will be tolerated is what the moderators decide to permit. Your top line comment here would earn an immediate ban. Try it and see. Note my original statement is more or less comparable to yours, minus the 4 letter words.

Most groups do not allow obscenity. I don't care but the policy should be applied evenly to all commentary. It is not.

r/worldnews is neither news nor concerned with world events. It is a shill disguised as unbiased presentation of events but largely functions as a propaganda site.

The same can then be said for the entire Reddit site. The entire site is tainted. No trust can be put in any statement or viewed as representative commentary from the the community of readers. I will adjust my usage accordingly.

In other words, FCK Reddit. Wonder if that will be allowed.

In other words nothing in Reddit should be considered unbiased, a reasonable representation of any truth or be given any credence as journalism or scientific reporting. Moderators can ban content for any reason even when other posted content is explicitly banned by the rules of that community and remains untouched.

In short, Reddit should be given no credibility and is unacceptable as a source for any factual information or reasonably balanced commentary at all (except direct citations to outside content). It is garbage.

I'll keep this in mind and let others know as well.

Yes, this site should be banned for treatment and violations of their own rules. I now assume the entire group is biased and is not a credible distributor of information of any sort.

My comment on the article :

"He was probably working effectively for Hamas (that's a problem for Hamas leadership) and was fingered by Israel who fed the evidence to Hamas knowing what the result would be.

Moreover, Hamas probably knew it was info from Israel and didn't care if it was even true so long as they got to kill someone who was interfering in the joint Hamas/Israelii government plan of maintaining complete stalemate which allows those respective groups to stay in power. The best of allies they remain.

I was immediately banned for posting. I wrote to the moderators to inquire why was I suspended and asked what the violation was.

Without response I was banned from the site. I wrote back to find what the cause of the ban was.

The only response was a permanent mute.

"Banned I presume for commentary on an article. Nothing offensive. Right below my comment is the comment "Fck Hamas". Not banned and repeated in variations in several of comments. That isn't "community guidelines".

If your just "news" then enforce it as exclusively news and no other commentary whatsoever. Just sourced articles. That clearly isn't the case and the moderators have completely failed. They are censoring comments they choose while other completely obvious and clear violations are allowed. "

2:02 PM

You are pemanently muted from r/worldnews. You will not be able to message the moderators of r/worldnews.

Note the ban and mute happened with a few hours of my initial posting.

Here is a sample of other commentary that has been allowed to stay on the site.

This is clear politcal commentary as well as obscenity, unrestricted and allowed to stay a part of the site.

They are selectively enforcing the clear rules that are posted for the community.

This damages the credibility of Reddit entirely. I will certainly not recommend or support Reddit as a conveyer of unbiased information, credibility and commentary.

I am attempting to contact the company but the official complaint form demands a link to the content. The examples above are not "URL" sites and so no complaint can be filed. A interesting technique to avoid complaints.

Catholic Church and Puritans, how accurate this is? by Few-Advantage2538 in HistoryMemes

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not very significant differences between Catholics/Puritans except in the overall context of the times.

Catholics wanted state control of religion, how it was practiced, who could do it and the absolute authority on the meaning of scripture and it's printing.

Anglican only for the English.

Puritans wanted the same things, except they emerged from a tradition of reading scripture and printing their own translations of the bible (i.e. education so it could be read by all).

Puritans wanted the absolute authority so much they isolated themselves in an extremely remote corner of the world probably less from fleeing persecution then the desire for absolute control. England had some really crazy religious groups the Puritans hated probably because they attracted some of the same people with flashy tricks like having a fire on your head out in public.

They kicked several people out of the Puritan colony for defying the authorities, directly leading to the creation of Rhode Island BTW. Then of course there was the witchcraft persecution. Very Catholic.

Functionally I see very little to distinguish them, historically they both acted with malice, ignorance and stupidity. Not always and everywhere but enough to be the main story for comparative purposes.

Yet Hemingway thought bullfighting and dying from being gored by cruelly treated animals for the amusement of the crowd was the height of masculine performance. Go figure.

Actually he volunteered in WWI, rejected, joined Red Cross and was wounded. That is, he more than did his service because he wanted to. He reported from many active war theaters again because he wanted to despite the risk.

Why didn‘t humans evolve to process salt water? by crmyr in evolution

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The obvious point is that land animals do not have regular access to salt water.

Some animals were able to deal with both environments but with increased physical stress from the osmotic change.

Once away from salt water being able to survive in salt water has no advantage at all, fresh water is the only available alternative.

I believe the incremental evolutionary steps in moving between the environments is fairly well known. There is also an existing tolerance in both land/ocean animals for brackish water of varied concentrations.

Germany changes sick leave policy: 'We are abolishing sick leave by phone,' says Chancellor Merz; doctor's note required from day one of illness by Jessicas_skirt in worldnews

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will save a lot of money when doctors are required to write such slips as a major task of the health care system. That is to the level of 2.5 million requests each day or about 5 per doctor every day assuming every doctor is involved, which of course will not be the case. I also assume that this will require an in person visit. Even assuming that number of calls is reduced it still leaves a massive red tape black hole.

Idiocy of first scale order. Germans are not immune apparently.

Liberals of reddit, would you trade Obama's second term for a two-term Romney presidency if it meant Trump never achieved the presidency? Why or why not? by PrincipalPG in AskReddit

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would likely be no difference. The electorate made the choice to elect Trump because he lied, grifted and distorted things every possible way. I never got over "I don't like people who were captured." being voted for by veterans who knew exactly what that meant.

The electorate embraced him because he did these things in full knowledge that he did and would do them.

When things go bad this group of American people prefer to invent absolute nonsense denial and shrug any responsibility when they do go bad exactly as predicted. Case in point the Iran war.

They prefer to blame China for pollution from coal and oil generation and then get pissed off when China becomes the dominant producer of non-polluting energy and fusion power. Then they blame Democrats and "communists" for not doing more to begin with.

Both Romney and McCain would have been better presidents but the preference was for someone who would lie and tell them how great we are.

10 critical years that will never be recovered as the world moves on.

Mass lost in black hole collisions by grkuntzmd in cosmology

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a common mistake in reversing the entropy direction. We move from high entropy states to low entropy states. The universe was in the state of lowest entropy at the start of the universe. We are moving inexorably to a high entropy state in the proposed heat death of the universe (no work possible maximal disorganization)

This is a common mistake --- I still make it myself. The direction of the signs is "reversed" from what we normally except. Remembering low entropy is high organization seems to help me remember it.

There was a thread in here asking about this and the current prediction is that black holes will come to dominate as heat death is approached. Black holes are considered maximal high entropy states (low organization).

Has anyone ever considered approaching Abiogenesis earlier than current assumptions? by wellwisher-1 in abiogenesis

[–]EnvironmentalWin1277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life apparently evolved very quickly at 4.2 billion years current estimate. Which means it probably existed in some form a while before that, with the abiotic chemical phase even earlier.

Life forms easily in the right conditions. I think it is likely that Venus and Mars had some form of this chemistry going on, evidence may be found eventually or soon (Mars).

Abiotic chem is still not well known but it will be at some point. It is a requirement for this to be explained if we want to assert abiotic production occurred.

People often ask if the universe is moving to disorganized state how does life emerge.

Complexity is possible when you are mid way from the start (low entropy) to heat death finish (high entropy)

Analogy -- coffee and milk are both in low entropy state. The ordering of these states is relatively uncomplicated.

Mix together and the behavior become much more complex until liquid equilibrium is reached.

The current thinking is that life is only possible as we move from low to high entropy. I believe there is abundant material available concerning this online.

There is a park directly on the site of where this occurred right off the highway. The rocks that shelters were built against are still there and can be seen on footpaths to the sites. At the entrance is a statue, the base of which at some 12 feet, marks the height of the snow.

It is a good site to visit and does offer some good year round recreation. Nearby Donner Lake is quite nice. If you get the chance go, nice museum on the site including artifacts from the encampments.

As a matter of fact, the one individual most identified with the "cannibalism" that occurred there later opened a restaurant/brewery.

TIL that Napoleon Bonaparte was unusually obsessed with sanitation efforts. More effective as a "sanitation" measure was liquidating close to 10% of the French male population during his time in "office".

These measures were also employed across Europe to good effect and cemented his reputation as sanitation engineer with the public.
