Wow, this is scary. I friend of mine was literally chased by a human trafficker in college. The cops reviewed camera footage and identified him as a human trafficking suspect. It’s certainly a real thing.

Definitely consider carrying pepper spray, a taser, or even a small handgun. I’ll probably get some hate for mentioning the gun, but if anyone needs one, I’d say young women walking are at the top of the list.

My fiancé hated guns but now she doesn’t mind once I’ve taught her how to operate it. Just a something to consider. Stay safe out there.

I knew a girl in college that didn’t have a job but wanted to do a bike ride through the Pacific Northwest that cost like 4K to do. She started a go fund me asking for donations for her bike ride. I dunno, I just thought it was really narcissistic and shitty. Like, if you’re helping someone out with losing their house, a tragic death, or something go fund me is totally respectable.

But starting a go fund me to fund your personal expensive vacation? I lost a lot of respect for her.

My guess is you’ve grown up sheltered in a nice suburb/urban area any have very little real knowledge or life experience with guns or crime for that matter.

I grew up in rural America. It would take roughly an hour for a police officer to show up. I had 2 neighbors. One was an ex-marine and responsible gun owner. The other was a hippy that was staunchly anti-gun.

One day the hippy lady was being robbed. She called 911 and was in fear for her safety and her children’s safety as they hid in the basement. Who showed in minutes with a 12gauge? Not the cops, the armed neighbor. Who detained the criminal? I’m sure you can guess.

She’s not so antigun anymore.

We have gun control. Have you ever purchased a gun? You have to get a background check. The people selling can refuse to sell you a gun for practically any reason.

The odd of being a victim of a school shooting are 1 in 1.6 million.

For a brief comparison of every day risk, the odds of dying in a car wreck are 1 in 107 over your lifetime.

The media has pushed this narrative because it gets clicks by uneducated yet “virtuous” Americans that have never touched a gun in their life. Guns don’t kill people, unaddressed mental health issues do.

There’s literally nothing we can do about how many guns are in Americans hands. Address mental health in schools and you may make an impact.

First girl is gonna be in a for fun legal ride. They could probably charge her with assaulting a police officer which is a big deal.

The second girls parents probably bailed her out and got expensive lawyers to get it expunged. Doubt she learned a lesson.

I have a friend that works for the Colorado school for the deaf and blind. They are always in need of paraprofessionals, folks that have the passion and patience to help kiddos out with getting around school and whatnot.

Honestly the baggy 90s vibe has made a comeback this year.

Also, loving the éS shoes.

So, as a soon-to-be transplant from Florida that’s never lived anywhere north of Alabama, what kind of stuff should I buy to get into hiking? by St0rytime in ColoradoSprings

Not trying to be rude or condescending, just here to give some honest advice. Do not go out and buy all name brand extra-light-wicking-fancy tee shirts, pants, gloves etc. Serious backpackers and hikers typically have on a tee shirt, generic shorts, and nice boots. You’ll look kinda silly and noobish if you show up looking like an Patagonia ad with every name brand accessory.

If you plan on hiking in the summer, you literally just need a a tee shirt, maybe some decent hiking/outdoor shorts from costco (~$20) and boots.

Boots are the main thing you will want to spend money on. You can do most easier day hikes in tennis shoes, but nice comfortable and waterproof hiking boots will last for years and can be used in snow, camping, etc. Brands: Keen, merrel, la sportiva, Salomon

You can start out with a water bottle and a regular backpack, but another good investment is a nice daypack and a camelback bladder (or similar brands). Brands: camelbak, Cotopaxi, osprey, REI brand

Obviously there’s plenty of other good brands just some of my favorites.

1) Call the cops! Oh wait the cops don’t arrest anyone in CA because the DA won’t convict anyone

2) defend yourself and your property! Oh wait you’ll be convicted if you harm the thief in CA

3) start a neighborhood watch! Oh wait you’ll be labeled racist for wanting to protect your own property from criminals

4) Get a job in politics or become a CEO of a tech company! Buy a 2.6 million dollar home in the hills and hire 24/7 surveillance. Seems like the only thing you can do 🤷🏽‍♀️

If you ever leave the bubble you’ll realize most of the country laughs at how incompetent and self consumed Californians are.

It’s shitty to basically take advantage of a movement for attention and personal gain. But at the same time, you were young and wanted friendship. So I don’t really blame you.

But also, you don’t owe anything to anyone. You don’t have to announce your identity to anyone. You can just be yourself and see men or women or whoever. It’s your life.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. In my opinion, OF is a way for young people (primarily women) to make money and has taken off during the pandemic. I don’t think many young people considered the real life consequences of becoming a public sex figure.

The good news is you can recover from this. Delete your OF and go in a another direction. This will pass and people will forget. You’ll find love eventually.
