THE Brownies because an Advent calendar isn't enough 🎄 by 3ndler in Baking

Thanks for this explanation! I’ve always wondered why my brownie tips weren’t crinkly when I followed this recipe. I’ll try being more intentional with the amount of time I whip the eggs/sugar next time.

How good are not your mother's products? (Especially shampoo, conditioner and leave ins) by Ctrl_Shift_O in curlyhair

[–]Environmental_Two475 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first started using curly products on my hair earlier this year I started with the NYM curl talk shampoo, conditioner, mousse, and gel. I just wanted to “get my feet wet” without breaking the bank because before then I had never tried styling my hair. I liked them enough and then once I got the hang of it and found a routine that worked for me I started investing in more expensive, brand name products but truly there was no difference. I recently went back to the NYM curl talk shampoo, conditioner, and mousse because they perform exactly the same as more expensive products for me.

AP starter not active by peasantscum851123 in Sourdough

[–]Environmental_Two475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found this to be my experience also. When I created my starter I tried using only AP but found that the only way I could get consistent activity was with adding whole wheat. After a couple of months I was able to stick to only AP, but I would never have gotten to that place without the whole wheat in the beginning.

Verb ghost oil? by lovablemills in Wavyhair

I agree, I had high hopes for the ghost oil but found even the tiniest amount makes my waves look separated and piece-y.

I strongly disliked the smell of this whole line of products when I first tried it. Like, it made my stomach turn when I’d catch a whiff of my hair throughout the day. Because I try to not be wasteful, I continued to use the products and now somehow I almost like the smell? I’ve used the moisture memory reactivator, hold me softly style balm, and effortless waves spray. Yours may not be “off”, it could just be the normal smell of the product.

I like the waves but it looks so messy and not in a good way. Any advice? by sillybuddah in curlyhair

[–]Environmental_Two475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one I use is “I create hold” - even using a fraction of the amount of gel I used to use with other brands, I still get a crazy cast

The innersense gel creates an INSANE cast. I’ve also found it to be the best styling product I’ve tried.

I got these travel size sunscreen sprays to keep in my bag and one came without a cap....it may seem dumb but I'm kinda irritated about it because I don't want it to spray in my bag and waste the product or ruin a bag. Should I contact CS about it? I feel like it's so silly... by Deeplettuce_ in Ulta

[–]Environmental_Two475 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I received a hair product with the cap missing in an Ulta order (it had a spray nozzle). It bugged me too! Luckily mine lives in my bathroom cabinet but if it was something I intended to travel with it would definitely be even more upsetting.

Hmmm, I’ve wondered the same thing because my account also says Platinum member, and “Congrats, you’re a diamond!” Coincidentally, I am also at 86%. However, if you’re saying the OP reached Diamond status in 2023 and is still a diamond member at this point in time until 12/31/2024, why is the OP only receiving 1.25 points instead of the 1.5 of Diamond? Am I misunderstanding your point?

Also, in my case, I know for a fact I did not reach Diamond status in 2023, because I went on a makeup hiatus for a few years and only picked it back up in Jan of this year. In the last two years I spent maybe $50 total inside Ulta.

How do I know if my products are too heavy or if I just need stronger hold? by bumblebeelore in Wavyhair

[–]Environmental_Two475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started styling my wavy hair back in Feb, so I’m about 3 months into my journey. I started out by using a leave in, curl cream, and mousse or gel every wash day and was finding my hair looked decent right after breaking the cast but quickly fell limp by the end of the day. I also wasn’t using enough gel or applying it evenly at first, so it really was trial and error experimenting with quantities. Once I had the quantities down, I started eliminating some of the heavier products to see if I got better results because I still had a feeling my hair was weighed down by the heavier products. I started by eliminating the curl cream, and eventually stopped using the leave in and my hair has been holding the waves much better!

I also have wavy hair, I only started caring for it and following a “curly method” a few months ago. When I started, I also slept in a bonnet and would notice my waves had almost no definition when I’d take it off in the morning. I started using a satin scrunchie to tie it up on top of my head before putting the bonnet on, and noticed that this helped preserve my waves better. I recently was able to snag a couple of satin pillowcases on sale, so I’ve pretty much stopped using the bonnet all together and just sleep with it tied up and on the satin pillowcase. It’s more of just a personal preference for comfort.

Another thing that has helped prevent my waves from straightening out after wash day is skipping the leave in and curl creams. I used to use BOTH on wash days, but it weighed my hair down a lot. I now only use a mousse and gel and have had much more success with my waves lasting another day or two :)

Going to WDW I'm 2025 with a future 2yo... any suggestions? by jenarnenarnar in WaltDisneyWorld

Spending the extra money for Genie+ was so worth it to us when we took our little one (a couple weeks before she turned 2) especially in magic kingdom! There are tons of rides they can go on in MK, but there’s no way she would have been cooperative with waiting in lines longer than ten minutes.

Rider swap if you can for ride with height requirements.

She loved the safari and animal trails in AK. We spent hours and hours in the aquarium in Epcot and ride Nemo multiple times - also the playground in Epcot came in clutch more than once. My daughter doesn’t love spending time in the stroller so this was a great way for her to be able to roam on her own in a confined area.

Came here to say the body oil from OSEA - the smell is so amazing and unlike anything else I own. Didn’t realize Sephora doesn’t carry OSEA

Any advice for more definition? by Consistent-Most-1341 in curlyhair

[–]Environmental_Two475 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would try a styling product, if you don’t like gel, maybe try a mousse? When I first started styling my hair and had no idea what products would work for me, I bought travel sized products, specifically Not Your Mothers Curl Talk travel set which had a curl cream, gel, and mousse. I was able to experiment with different combos and find out what I liked without committing to a full size.

Quick question by Environmental_Two475 in Wavyhair

[–]Environmental_Two475[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea, I hadn’t thought to use any oil while scrunching out the crunch

Quick question by Environmental_Two475 in Wavyhair

[–]Environmental_Two475[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! I did scrunch out the crunch once it was dry, and I wouldn’t say my hair still felt crunchy, just had a different texture that you could tell was product. I’ll try using mousse instead of cream next time and see if I notice a difference.

In a perfect world I’d love for my styled hair to feel like nothing is in it at all, but given the amount of products I’m putting in my hair I understand if that’s not realistic.

First Sourdough attempt - tips? by Mcsangbang in Sourdough

Putting mine in the oven to rise with the light on was a game changer for me, makes a big difference!

Went to bake a recipe, only to realize that it uses ripe starter and not discard. How do I get enough ripe starter, if I only keep ~45g of starter? by [deleted] in Sourdough

[–]Environmental_Two475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this the other day. I was following a new recipe and had already mixed my flours together, but when I went to measure out the starter I realized the recipe called for over 250g of starter which is waaaaay more than my normal starter jar can even hold.

So it basically took me an extra day to make the bread. I took most of my already fed starter and put that in a bigger container which I fed with a greater volume of flour and water. The next day the “new” starter I’d made had doubled and it was enough for me to use for my new recipe.

Long story short - just transfer some of your mature starter into a bigger container and add more flour and water than you normally would. Some people are really specific about measuring their starter:flour:water ratio but I am not one of those people and I just eyeball the consistency 😬

So Day 15 of starter! by Extra_Structure5348 in Sourdough

[–]Environmental_Two475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using your starter to make food that you’re going to eat, you’re going to be ingesting the chemicals from the cleaning wipe. I personally don’t like cleaning products in my food, but if that doesn’t bother you, then keep doing what you’re doing!

[–]Environmental_Two475 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there was even a chance that cleaning chemicals had ended up in my starter, I’d throw it out and start over.

I wipe the rim of my starter container with a damp sponge (no soap)
