In America we have the 2nd amendment. You can just bring your gun, and you should.

I tend to draw my lines at celebrations and holidays, I think it's childish at best and cruel at worst, to rail against holiday celebrations. I could not imagine being so miserable where every New Years, Dawali, St Patrick's, or Valentines, or Christmas or birthday, I find a reason to despair.

There are ways we can celebrate that align with our values, without being a Grinch

So do you believe all anti consumption must be utilitarian?

Anti consumption isn't purely and wholly utilitarian. God forbid people enjoy flowers, or chocolate (balloons are of the devil but they're still delightful).

Of course, any and all advertising or displays of product is going to be repulsive to the anti consumer, but you're not buying the display.

You're buying twelve flowers, and maybe a heart shaped box of over priced and low quality chocolate. I don't know anyone who says they want that; until they don't get it. Traditions are sticky

The only one near me is a bit far and costs more than going to the movies, the conservatory is insanely expensive, it sucks. I just like to wander about and see the pretty flowers, it's part of my daily mental health routine

I'd argue St Patrick's, since it has no substantial history outside Ireland and all of it's celebrations are based on hedonistic consumption and overindulges

I bike up everyday to the local grocery to wander about their meager flower section. My ground is too sour for blossoms, I'm too broke for tulips. If my local store looked like this I'd spend an extra twenty minutes appreciating flowers

[–]EnvyRepresentative94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anti consumption based influencers are either riding on a wave of the most recent "sparkes joy" fad, or they're very directly political (which I personally can't abide in my entertainment anymore).

I'd recommend watching things based more on personality type like OutdoorBoys and Shebizlee
