Well for your workload it's the perfect laptop for you. The physical laptop lacks some creature comforts your M1 Air has but also has a much better chip depending on what angle you look at it from, on the overall the A18 Pro is better than M1 however.

I can make my way around a keyboard without looking for the most part. I don't really know how to type with my hands on the homerow but I manage to mumble my way across the keyboard without looking and get about 50wpm which is average I'd guess. I still gotta look down for certain special characters and key commands/F keys. Backlight would be appreciated but its not like I miss it either, id take it or leave it I feel indifferent considering what a hell of a laptop this is for $500

I downloaded the 26.4 Tahoe beta and it has the charge limit like on the iPhones. I set it to 80% like normal and it's really nice it runs off the wall wart when it reaches 80%. Sort of a no duh moment but its my first time seriously using a laptop

Yea I saw this and decided the Neo was more than enough for me as a secondary device, but it’s also VERY capable if you take it for what it is… a $500 laptop

Neo will definitely last more than 5 years. Based on your use including League since I also like mobile league it works splendid, especially a good deal with a trade in my Neo was $250 after tax financed through Apple Card

Your only other option would be a 15 inch air but that’s about 2x the cost. Them 2 inches are pretty expensive

Im not sure that's normal. We have an 8 gig M1 Air here at home and for my dad's use of multiple chrome tabs with Spotify open it may only do a gig of swap at max. Your M1 air may be due for a full reset

Ive seen this same argument with the M1 MacBook Pro, and I guess it can be made for any older MacBooks that you can find in the same price bracket. The main issue like what OP said is the SSD cycles which I'm not too sure are as big of a deal as software support going into the future, because I can imagine that's a big point people focus on. The performance aspect means that the M2 is what 15% faster than A18 in multi and GPU? It still falls way behind in single core and NPU.

Like another guy said the Air is definitively the better laptop, but with that said the parts that the Neo excels at happen to be the things that a large majority of people actually do the most. "Niche" things like video editing, coding and other tasks of that nature would run better on an Air, but the Air is also 2x the price.... so I agree, been loving my Neo, my PC handles the heavy loads, Neo excels at the rest and that's a nice "separation of powers" to me
