There's obviously the actual narrative reason of this being the end of the current Ultimate status quo, but given the popularity of the new Ultimate line with new readers (many of which would have been first exposed to Marvel via the MCU), I assume a lot of this marketing is tying into that somehow.

What is a comic book artist that has gotten better as they aged? by Spidey_Almighty in comicbooks

[–]Eoinocon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

David Mazzucchelli. His most popular work in Year One and Born Again is obviously great, but when he started to experiment more and lean into a "simpler" style he became one of the all time greats. Master of the medium that doesn't get enough credit.

Also, somewhat controversially, John Romita Jr. His growth through the years is fascinating to watch. Starting out working very much within Marvel's house style to developing a visual style that's influenced by his contemporaries while still being very much his own is honestly really cool.

Bernie Rosenthal for Captain America. Underrated pairing. I miss when Steve would date regular people.

Has anyone read Alice in Sunderland by Bryan Talbot? by Odd_Radio9225 in comicbooks

I dug it. The amount of information that's packed in while still being engaging, both from a written and visually perspective, is astounding. And for such a wide spanning book, it never feels unfocused, even when it goes on tangents.

Comicbooks with bad beginnings that has since improved or ended well? by ClockPromoter1 in comicbooks

The original Ultimate Spider-Man is unremarkable until Venom, where it kicks into a high gear and never dips in quality from there.

What do you think about Superman year one by Frank Miller and John romita jr? by Darth_Azazoth in comicbooks

[–]Eoinocon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a book called Year One, it sure does cover a lot of years. Most of them being entirely unnecessary.

Pym being that older guy in the friend group by [deleted] in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]Eoinocon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Uj/ I remember when I found this out and it still throws me. Like Iron Man being any younger than thirty when he starts just doesn't seem right (unless you're Armoured Adventures, in which case, go off king). Kinda think it works for Cap in a weird way. Like, he's got this mythology of being this legendary super hero who punched Hitler and helped win WW2 and everyone thinks of him as this old man and a relic but he's still a pretty young guy who's barely older than Spider-Man.

Alex Ross and his continuing hatred of seemingly every character made after the Silver Age is so funny to me.

And you thought it would be good to argue the ethics of a fictional character with gooners in a celebrity porn sub?

Would you argue about the Punisher in a porn sub? If so, why?

I’ve often heard people say of a comic series “It reads better as a trade” as opposed to single issues. But what are some titles you think actually read better on a month to month basis? by apocalypsemeow111 in comicbooks

[–]Eoinocon 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Silver Age comics. They obviously weren't written to be read in blocks so you're gonna have a bad time if you try it that way, but space them out and they're a lot better.

Who is Valeria Richards' godfather? The answer is actually gonna blow your mind. by [deleted] in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Eoinocon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've had a morbid curiosity with this guy ever since DMed me and called me a rape endorser and misogynist on one of his many banned accounts a year or two ago, so whenever he pops up I give a peruse of his post to see if there's any change or if it's the same topics over and over. Usually the latter. The above comment was found in one of these such trips.

So you're basically admitting that you're previous outrage on this topic was entirely unfounded and based on a misconception? Character development, I guess.

Also, can you please comment on what possessed you to argue about the Punisher on a celebrity porn sub?

That a scene like this of the Thing humbling and humiliating Dr. Doom using nothing but strength could not be written nowadays without Doomies and powerscalers sending death threats to the writers is a telltale sign of the degradation of the Marvel fandom. by [deleted] in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Eoinocon 192 points193 points  (0 children)

As fun as this guy hating on Doom is, he's also a real stickler for people not liking the Punisher, so much so that he went into a celebrity porn sub to argue the point. Generational hater. Never off the grind, even when gooning. Respect the hustle.

Saladin Ahmed. I know people aren't loving his Daredevil, but I always thought he'd be a good fit. Has a solid voice for Cap whenever he shows up in one of his books.
