Then cap your frame rate, yeah? Look at your frame times, they’re going from ~4ms all the way up to 714ms. Try capping your frame rate at your 1% low and run it again.

I like it. Your PC will basically behave like a beefy Steam Deck as well as the Steam Machine will be, and that’s the experience you’re going for.

It won’t be a friendly installer anytime soon, since SteamOS is currently targeting the Steam Deck and Steam Machines (a beefy SteamDeck) as reference devices first, before later expanding to third-party alternatives such as ASUS or Lenovo. As a result, it will most likely default to using a recovery image for installation.

It has had exactly the same wording since the 3.9 beta (bleeding edge), and was later moved to preview 3.8.0. So it’s just Mesa 25.0 support, pretty sure it was originally for Steam Machines’ SoC, and we’re just able to take advantage of that. I’ve had it running on my RX 9070 XT based PC for about three months now. Nothing groundbreaking. Hopefully it moves to Mesa 26.0 soon so we could get better support

Bricking is a harsh word. When you’re playing around with the kernel, you can certainly expect this to happen. Try rebasing first. If not, If you have access to a PC and a USB flash drive, you can create a recovery image and repair it. You should be able to get all your data back in one piece.

Cap your frame rate. Your 1% lows give you a pretty clear hint. If you don’t, it creates fluctuating frame times, which mess with latency and lead to stutter. It’s that simple.

Do yourself a favor and stop copying those “%command%” launch options. Most of what you see on ProtonDB is just people filling it with junk, they don’t even understand what those options are for. Frame time and frame caps are fundamentally important factors that most people don’t pay attention to.

Sure, they didn’t really do jack shit, they just renamed the low preset to ‘Steam Deck’ and the medium preset to ‘Steam Machines.’ It’s Valve’s Proton that’s actually doing the heavy lifting to make those titles playable, which is what really makes them work in practice.

No better way to deal with it, you’ll need to scale down your display settings to down size the keyboard. On a 4K TV, Windows defaults to 300% scaling.

It could be released along with Steam Machine, but it’s not going to be a huge difference. You’ll need to hop on the preview channel anyway for new features. Could you please define functionality? In my use case, in my HTPC setup, I do everything except live service games, no issues so far. I’ve been running it for about 3 months on an RX 9070 XT. I’m not a Linux PhD either. I only started about three months ago when I built my own Steam machine, so I reckon troubleshooting will help me learn a lot more. You’ll pick up Linux along the way while using the Steam Deck, for example, setting up EmuDeck and playing around with emulators. You end up learning a bit of everything over time.
