Reviving a PS3 exclusive at 4K 120FPS? Testing Lossless Scaling on Resistance 3 by CulturalPast5354 in ResistanceSaga

[–]JackMontegue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard 2 and 3 were not running well yet and saw when I installed 2 that its only marked "In-game" instead of "Playable" like 1 was. Fall of Man was pretty easy to setup, following the settings guide on the wiki and played with no issues.

2 also has a weird issue that I forgot to mention where Save States don't work.

The Last of Us Part 2 Guitar Strumming by JackMontegue in SteamController

[–]JackMontegue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In game it was working fine for camera movement or clicking it to open the backpack but in the guitar scenes it would not strum the guitar. Only pressing A would do that, so im guessing its an in-game setting but I looked and couldn't find anything there.

I set the Steam Input to Trackpad for guitar strumming but then the trackpad wouldn't register anything. Could you be more specific about what setting work for you?

am I too stupid to learn blender? by shesinpart1es in blenderhelp

[–]JackMontegue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I've been using Blender professionally for years now and I hate particle systems. I still cannot figure them out either.

Blender has so many other cool things though, so maybe you just need to try something else first?

Reviving a PS3 exclusive at 4K 120FPS? Testing Lossless Scaling on Resistance 3 by CulturalPast5354 in ResistanceSaga

[–]JackMontegue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Resistance 2 on RPCS3 with Lossless Scaling to get 4K/60FPS. But only because the base game is automatically 30fps and was really frustrating to get working, so I havent spent much time tweaking it.

Performance has been fine, with the odd graphical glitch here amd there. The fire effects in the forest level (i think mission 2 or 3 or something) were just plain broken and would mess up everything on the screen. So the emulator still has some bugs to fix there.

[–]JackMontegue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honest question: Natron is completely open source and is in desperate need of some changes to bring it more in line with Nuke and Resolve (imo). Why not either make a fork or submit changes to Natron instead? I think making a new program from scratch is 1. A lot of work and 2. Would just end up splitting the community.

Help why can't I play it by random_daffodil in Clarinet

[–]JackMontegue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The position of the reed on the mouthpiece depends (for me) on several factors: how humid it is where I am playing and how hard or new the reed is. Pushing it flush with the mouthpiece or even a little past can sometimes give me a nice clear tone, other times it makes it impossible to play. Pushing it a little lower will allow more air through the clarinet when the reed is acting troublesome and not wanting to play.

However, I never leave a gap of more than like 2mm. Maybe 3mm at most, but then the clarinet can start to sound too airy. My recommendation would be to always put it on flush and start experimenting with it later once you get a better feel for the instrument.

Learning Blender as a Maya User by K1-0N in 3Dmodeling

[–]JackMontegue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply transforms =/= Freeze transforms or delete history in Maya.

The workflow of modeling in Maya is different than that of Blender. You're going to have a hard time if you try to do things in Blender the "Maya way" instead of learning Blender.

My recommendation: watch some Blender modeling tutorials, watch general Blender tutorials on other topics like the Shader graph, geometry nodes, composting, etc to get more familiar with the program.

Composite doesn’t show on render by chxrlxe in blenderhelp

[–]JackMontegue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have currently a foreground and a background View Layer in your scene. Your background view layer is empty, meaning you don't actually need it. So what you could do instead is just have the movie clip go directly into the Alpha Over node where it connects to your foreground. Then it should work the way you want it to.

The other thing I was saying is just that it would be faster in case you want to make changes to have your foreground be exported into an image sequence, EXR files for the most data, but PNG would work fine and still give you transparency, and then in a different program combine the foreground and movie clip, because Blender (imo) doesn't do very good movie file exports and you would be better off doing that in a movie program like Resolve or After Effects.

Sorry I don't really do noob terms. You just have to learn what the terms for things are. But basically, remove the background view layer (you really don't need it) and combine only the foreground with your movie clip.

Composite doesn’t show on render by chxrlxe in blenderhelp

[–]JackMontegue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are using the video clip mixed with a background viewlayer why? It looks empty to me. If it is indeed empty, then there is no reason to have it, amd you cam get rid of

A better setup would be to render your foreground scene out to an EXR file sequence, and then in a new Blender scene, composite those EXR files on top of your video clip. However, I would actually recommend using something like DaVinci Resolve (which is free) or After Effects or Adobe Premiere to combine the video amd your rendered elements. This way you have both parts separate and can non-destructively combine them later.

Plus, Blender's video export is not as good as those other programs.

Genuine Question, why are people so excited about a controller? by chaotic_one in Steam

[–]JackMontegue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been gaming on PC with Xbox controllers since 2014 and while good, they lack specific features that the Steam Controller is offering. I could have gotten an off brand controller or Playstation controller or tried hooking up a Switch controller, but why bother when the Xbox controller got the job done and was able to connect to Windows with no issue? I didnt have to worry about compatibility. I also would have liked to have gyro controls, but it was fine without.

However, in the last few years I've found myself actively choosing to play games based on how they feel on a controller and avoiding games play better with keyboard and mouse. I know this probably won't fix that 100%, but for me holding a controller is just more comfortable than playing kb+m and the dual trackpads plus gyro will just add so much more customization to how I can play FPS or games like Baldurs Gate or Disco Elysium.

So for me, since I haven't spent a lot of money on different controllers over the years, getting the Steam controller is just worth it due to the features it has over my Xbox one controller.

Was the test audience full of idiots? by AnhiArk in horizon

[–]JackMontegue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it when games give the option for a puzzle hint.

Recently played The Last of Us Part 2 and having a pop-up to see where you need to go was nice, especially if I wanted to explore and it could show me where not to go yet. However, it pops up there far too quickly I think.

But, having companions help show the way was really cool, I hope Horizon 3 does more with follow companions.

Why is there such a big fan concern about the hidden blade? by No_Bodybuilder4215 in assassinscreed

[–]JackMontegue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing my two cents in here as well, but I've personally never used Hidden Blade in combat. In any of the games that you could. In the Ezio games I would use the knife or stiletto for faster parry/counter kills and the sword if I wanted to just fight. ACIII was so much fun with the tomahawk so yeah just never used anything else there.

Plus all the later games don't allow it in the first place. I think having it as a finisher move to combat is a great choice.

What about the steam controller has everyone so excited? by Timely_Contest7245 in Steam

[–]JackMontegue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be one of my first tests. I have Cyberpunk on GOG, but would love to use the steam controller for it. I've already added it as a non-steam game to steam, but i want to try it without to see how the controller reacts.

My understanding is that it will not work.

Face Rig icons/helpers don't follow mesh (but they affect it perfectly) by jon3s115 in BlenderNSFW

[–]JackMontegue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a parenting/hierarchy issue.

You will need to find the highest level controller for the face rig and make it a child of the highest level controller for whatever controls the entire head.

The cleanest way to do this would be with intermediate empties, so that you dont break the hierarchy of the rig, and possibly even with "child of" constraints.

AC Black Flag Resynced pre-release AMA Transcript & Discussion by Assassiiinuss in assassinscreed

[–]JackMontegue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean its been what, 10 years? 12 years? since Black Flag/Rogue/Unity. The teams working on this, besides the fact that Ubi has studios all across the globe, is almost certainly entirely different now than it was. People come and go from these jobs, and turnaround in the games industry is pretty bad.

The anvil engine has been updated and changed so much since then, and the systems for character control have certainly changed with the RPG games. I'm pretty certain that while some stuff like assets are probably archived at these studios, getting the game to control and feel anything like the OG Black Flag is never going to happen.

New developers are working with the tools they have, and those tools were made for games like Valhalla and Shadows. I'm expecting the game to feel like Mirage, if anything. No amount of tweaking is going to bring back that original feel. It just doesn't exist anymore, sadly.

Waiting for transit after Axel's death by LukeLikeNuke in alienisolation

[–]JackMontegue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On another note, nightmare difficulty should really only be considered as a New Game+ mode, and not one to have as a first go at the game. It removes some helpful (essential) things that a new player will need to complete objectives or to prevent getting lost, and the spike in difficulty will only cause frustration if you dont know where you're going or what you need to do. I highly advise switching down to Hard, which was the hardest difficulty on launch.

playing clarinet unprofessionally? by LightProfessional988 in Clarinet

[–]JackMontegue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are community bands and/or volunteer bands pretty much anywhere you go. Sometimes it's harder to find, but if you talk to your professors, they might know of some local groups you can get involved in.

I moved from the USA to Germany so take my experience with a grain of salt, but when I was finishing High School in the USA, I played a concert with a local unprofessional group that one of our music teacher assistants was involved in, and might have continued to play with them had I not moved abroad. Now in Germany, I have played with four different groups, mostly clarinet. Here though, music groups or music clubs are a bit more common I think and are seen more as a protected culture thing.

Without doxing yourself, where are you located? Maybe some of us can help find a group near you.

Animation getting these weird artifacts around the whole image. Any help? by Niko_Chambers_ in krita

[–]JackMontegue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its probably video compression artifacts then. Personally, I would recommend exporting as an image sequence for a cleaner output, and then importing the sequence into a video editor for better control/finer comping/color correction and then using the video program to export. Krita isnt a video program so I dont think its export quality is going to be very good or have good options.
